Or have they even gotten to that point yet?

Novell is marketing against NT 4.0 users that are at end of life, I think they will probably get some modicum of success at as well. Messman thinks hell have a large portion of M$ market share, I dunno if thats true or not, but Id love to see it happen.

Its not that Im bitching. I dont use a windows box at home, doesnt bother me in the slightest. This theory of the Dumb You downed Security fix is really unintelligble though. How many people , actual professionals do you think look at all the default settings that SP2 puts on that creates problems for them.

Software incompatibility, ive heard all of that before. I think that largely Microsoft's attempt at monopolizing is a joke. By blocking the use of most of those apps, specified by the list in the root post, I see M$ admitting their own practices, ones for which they drastically try to deny. Lets block all the antispyware, firewall, and antivirus programs we can so that no person can use a third party program that M$ can supply to them for more money. Ive yet to see this happen so proprietarily in Linux. I dont see this happening there, based on the philosophy of the OS.

That be said, Chill out bitch, get you an Ubuntu installer, and quit trying to say that we are all in the wrong. Its getting old, and pretty damn quick.

  4. Sad end to a long theater play of Tragedy on Tribes Franchise Quietly Strangled · · Score: 1

Tribes as a whole has been a series of games that I have followed for a long time. Most of my Clan member are Tribes fanatics, where Im the founder of said group. I remember the day when Sierra let Dynamix team go. Things changed , and then the concepts of what the game was supposed to be changed. No more Full bomber team. No more full Carrier of heavies raining down mortars on the Katabatic base. No more Full tank squads. The Pod was a sorrowful comparison to the Shrike.

Sorrowfully, the promise that it would ever get better never materialized. The Engine was sold to Garage Games, and the final patch to the game was somewhat of a joke. There are still Base players out there that play Classic Base , Clans like Rebel Dawgs , Gigawa and LadyDeth the founders ( www.rebeldawgs.com ). But the community there is so largely fragmented its sometimes hard to get any validity out of it. I give the clan credit where credit is due. They do well.

Then Sierra Released T:V. The promise of an exciting single player game (that fell horribly short and the plotline was a joke), and fantastic multiplayer game (based on unreal engine, who can go wrong with that, I mean seriously). Well the game play was OK, I was hyped, Id been a Tribes fan for a long time. Most of the older GWoS Team members that had been inactive for so long had come out of the woodwork to play it. The Team play sucked, it in no way comparted to Tribes 2. There was one patch, and that was it. The game play was ok, The single player was a joke, the dynamic just wasnt there.

And I wasnt the only one that felt that way, Numerous clans had come on to play T:V , and there are some that walked away faster than I have considered doing.

Just another clear sign that VUG is largely incapable of supporting a game to the level that it should. I really feel sorry for SWAT Fans. I really do.

  6. As discussed upon reading this on Ubuntu and UserLinux to Combine? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I find that UserLinux is itself more of a Standardization group over a distro provider. I feel its more likely that Ubuntu will get some interesting development from such a relationship. I feel that Ubuntu has already proven itself amongst normal users , by normal I mean run of the mill standard Linux users (if there is such a thing called that). That be said, I feel also that Ubuntu is alsmost safe enough to put a non Linux user in front of it and with some nominal instruction.

I do aggree with prior opinions stating the non existence of certain packages(GCC and so forth), but thats easily remedied by a handy apt-get call. Of course its the opinion of some that you shouldnt have to do this, but thats a half a dozeon of one and six of the other fight, something not easily addressed.

Of course I think the biggest complaint about Ubuntu is the good old KDE Gnome fight. Of course this is why Kubuntu exists, have to make users happy I guess. I lead a relatively "Cholestoral Free" life myself.
