Most of the Microsoft Word files that we downloaded, for example, did not use mathematics, outlines, tracking changes, or other such features.

Right there is where most problems will occur. Also, after reading enough of /., lack of support of VBScript would be another obstacle.

Also, I wonder how KOffice will do after they switch their file formats and stuff. It could only help, right?

They released their code in GPL and if the GPL fails, then copyright laws will have to be completely rewritten since GPL is BASED upon copyright law. It's been a no-case from the beginning in my opinion.

If that's the case, why don't people buy more of the independent labels? Oh, obviously you can differentiate between "real" music while the masses can't. I hate this elitest crap.

The RIAA is digging their own graves around the world. If they don't change, people will get tired of them. Black market is already bigger in most countries. But don't think the masses don't like their music. Sure, there are many people that don't like it and many of the masses could appreciate more music. But most of the "pirates" aren't downloading independent labels, even given the opportunities.

This ruling won't affect the RIAA much. But if other places do the same thing, cumulatively, there can be a big effect. RIAA is already betting the farm by going against users in court.

XP works smoothly. Only times I've had stability problems were when I updated the ATI drivers and they were bad, so I rolled back and no problems since (9 months).

Don't get me started on my problems with Linux on Desktop. All Redhat 9, Mandrake 9.1, Suse 8.2 and Debian Woody gave me tons of trouble. I love Linux and OSS. And I still use it on my desktop from time to time. And I'm a computer geek, so I'll keep messing with it. But *when* I get money, my next computer (laptop or desktop) will be a Mac. If a child is smart already and takes the drug, then they probably want to be more challenged and learn more. Adversity is there. If a child is below average and takes the drugs, they get to average level and face the same adversities. It's just that they won't be left behind or the smart students held back!

People's "I want it now!" attitude is disturbing. But why assume that's what drugs and technology will be used for. Don't hate the drug because you're upset with the attitude of too many people with insatiable thirst and greed and little patience or dedication to do the work. I know there are too many people like that.

But look at the drug as an avenue for people to broaden minds, understand more concepts, share more interests and contribute more to society. If the people become smarter, maybe they'll see things in a better light and improve their look towards life. The technology can be used for many positive things. Humans however will remain humans.
