    it is the job of the OS and not the ISP
    if the ISP would provide a firewall which could be configured by the user without much hassle(webgui) it would be ok too

    it would be interessting if there was a technology which switches your cellphone to vibra or silence as soon as you enter a theater or an other public quiet spot
    with big signs at the door or a sms or some sound produced by your handy as soon as it enters the quiet area

    is Al Quaida not only interpreting the democracy to its fullest
    the US attacks dictators it does not like
    in a democracy the citizens would be finally responsible for the action of their government

    ok if you don't like the spatial mode just start gconf-editor
    then go to the folder apps -> nautilus -> preferences and there set the checkbox always_use_browser
    then you have the pre 2.6 browser mode everywhere
    i am not sure if there was not even a message at the first start of gnome 2.6 how to change this

    there is a keygen which generates good windows cdkeys for corporate editions with ability to install sp1
    i don't use windows at home
    it is very easy to get a windows corporate edition
    and it has nothing to do with holy grail it is just plain standart i think it is a bit sick if you have less hassle (activations etc.) with a pirated software then with a legal version

    but it does not work very well ....
    one problem are legacy applications or new ones not programmed right
    and even if they are done right you hit a lot of walls due your daily work
    ok .. not writing letters or sufing the web...
    but as i remember to install new shapes in ms project
    to connect devices like pda's
    and the most annoying is that you actually have to switch the user
    when i have all my stuff in my non admin account
    and i have to install some software, change some system config or what ever i have just nothing i need at hands!!
    no bookmarks, no email, no configured applications
    in linux i can just open a console, "su" , and use the instructions i got from a webpage to change something
    if install some app i can just try it with my normal useraccount without hassles
    in fact i know no private windows user which is not using his admin account for day to day work
    at work it is diffrent
    btw.. the company i work at (an all windows shop) has not been hit by any of the windows worms
    but just today some patch disabled all legacy winnt4 machine from loging in to our AD server
    that just means half of a day no computer work for about 70 people (the winnt machines are really needed for some legacy applications.. we even have to have some machines running with Excel 4.0!!!!)
    another funny thing is that a guy at the phone company providing the internet "by accident" plugged the cable out for a about a day for the network connection to a 24x7 construction site with ca. 300 peoples working there....

    imho windows CE you can smoke
    windows mobile (modified win CE) has at least decent software support
    but plain windows CE .net 4.2 there is noting
    ms doesn't even provide functionality to edit office documents (unlike 2003 Mobile)

    most people cant use computers anyway
    even if they sit in front of them all day
    it is much harder to get the advanced users to relearn all the stuff
    i think the IT department will be the hardest to get around if it isn't full of linux geeks

    it will only take a longer time until you got to update it
    but the problem stays the same at least in a few years it will take you at least a day of work to get the system running on a newer version of SUSE
    i think debian or gentoo is the way to go
    debian with a clear update path which will let you update from stable to stable without much hassle
    gentoo with continuous updates which you have to do anyway
    i don't say it has to be debian or gentoo but i think their methodology of updating is right

    one thing i wonder is how well is apt-get working on redhat/fedora/SuSE/whatever if you have to upgrade from say SuSE 8.xx to 9.xx

    i don't know if it will cause a ice age
    but what i am quite sure of is that there will be more cool water and more hot air (because of the reflected warmth sunbeams)
    and the air above the landmasses will be much more heated then the air above the (maybe even cooler)water
    and that means more storms, higher sea levels, clima changes, problems with agri cultur maybe more problems with skin cancer....

    i don't think sony could do this because to write cds is the intented use of their product
    and i don't think they could go after(lawsuite) you because you used other blanks or even for selling blanks which state "Work with Sony CD-RW Drives"
    at least not in switzerland
    there was a very similar problem with ink-jet printers and ink not made by the manufacturers of the printers
    they tried to void warranty per default if you used a ink of an other (alternative) brand
    they had no success

    i don't think it is (or should not be) illegal to use it (except if you do something illegal with the encoded files afterwards like distribution on the internet)
    what would you think if you went to a shop to buy a cd writer from sony and the writer would state that it is only legal to write on sony blanks even if it is technical possible to use this device to write others
    or a car manufacturer say you have no right to give someone a lift which does not belong to your family

    i would not say the most popular but most used (not same to me)
    i think it is hated by almost everyone for almost everything
    but they still use it
    some for the games, some for the applications, some for the ease of use, some because they know nothing else, some because they have to, some for hacking fun
    hey and there are even people which like it

    then someone will wield some magic and it will suddenly stop getting hotter???
    we have about 500 years of written temperature measurements
    over ten thousand years of information about general climate changes (droughts,ice-ages etc.) from drill tests in ice shields, sedimentations etc.
    it is more like looking at the stock markets for a few thousend years (yeah i know...) and saying your retirement will not be save even if you just invest all your money in blue chips

    for a ice age you have a temperatur decrease of about 4 C over 1000 years
    right now we have an increase of 0.43 C in 10 years that means it will be about 43 C warmer in 1000 years
    ok you will say it could still be natural
    but if you compare the timeline of industrialisation and the increase of the increase of temperature since then it fits just to well to ignore it
    industrialisation in this content i mean us starting buring coal and gas en mass

    don't tell me that that you have to drive (and don't drive) a huge SUV until you have proof that you need it and can't drive some smaller car (using less gas), use public transportation or you can proof that the greenhouse effect is not cause by people driving SUV or is not reality

    US politics concerning green house effect sound to me like this
    it is like finding a gun on the street take it up
    without knowing if the gun is loaded
    the guy next to you says "Be careful, i would assume the gun is loaded!"
    the gun guy "Do you have any proof of this?"
    "No,but it is quite likely the gun is loaded"
    the gunner again "so if you have not any proof then i will assume it is empty!"
    then he starts shooting around on a mall
    (!! ok, a flawned analogie -> just assume you could not just take out the magazin, shoot in the air or what ever to look if it is loaded)
    over here in europe the greenhouse effect is no longer this much disputed in general most of us just took it as the most likely thing to happen
    the dispute has already moved on to what to do (from notting to everything)
    and most of the world (except US and russia) have already ratified the kyoto protocol
    the funny thing about this is that you americans with your SUV's and other things are responsible for about 1 / 4 of the worlds CO2 output with 5 % of the worlds population

    there is already damage resulting of it
    look at the big glaciers
    look at permafrost zones
    look at the recent natural disaster
    look at the insurance companys and what they are predicting
    do you think el niño or do you think it's appearance is just happenstance
    we can perdict quite good what will happen when the temperatur is rising
    we even know it is rising
    the only thing to arrgue about is if it is caused by our own doing or if it is just a natural fluctuation in earth's climate
    i think it is better to be save then sorry
    or are you really the one who is going to tell the millions of people dieing, they are dieing to protect your right to drive a huge SUV????

    no... there are stupid,cruel,inhuman laws which should NOT be enforced
    that is is law does not means it is good or even right
    democracy gives you the right to talk about the laws and to try to change them
    you may look stupid or what ever but it is your right to criticize every law you like (which does not mean it is always right to break or follow a law)
    speeding is killing may peoples every day
    but just name me one person which died because of pirated software

    if there is majority saying it is right
    then it is legal
    habits change over time so does our law
    why should I not be allowed to fight for this right by all legal means
    and how does this not affect our rights online
