So Winter Time is stupid and rubbish, I'd much prefer to have some day time left in the evening than have it completely wasted whilst I'm sleeping.
And I disagree completely. Waking up in the dark is damn depressing, whereas I fully expect the evenings to be dark (in winter they are dark no matter what because the day is so short).
The fundamental problem is DDoS with thousands of bots, is it not? In which case the fix is to get rid of all the insecure devices. Either refuse all traffic from them somehow or maybe have an opt-in internetwork where you're booted off if you're found to have an insecure device, having to earn your way back in.

While I generally support self determination for geographic regions the law in Spain does seem to make the declaration of independence illegal.
