...An already established storyline that some people will be familiar with...It saves Hollywood writers from having to come up with anything original

True, but keep in mind that Hollywood producers often twist the stories and plots around into something they think are enjoyable, and thus it makes videogame movies less enjoyable for fans.

Case in point: take the upcoming "Doom" movie-- we're no longer dealing with demons anymore but.....mutants? zombies?

But, alas, I digress. Hollywood makes these changes to ensure that all types of audiences, gamers and non-gamers alike, will go out to see their movie. The aim, I guess, is to make the most money out of the picture-- I mean, it's Hollywood we're talking about here.

  4. Robosapien: boy or girl? on First Peek at Robosapien V2 · · Score: 1
New ultra realistic 2.0 Robosapiens can get "depressed" (RealEmotion engine 2.3) in which case they just won't "want" to do anything cool. (It's pretty incredible functionality). So if your RoboSapien isn't doing anything particularly exciting -- its not broken, its just not in the mood.

...if Robosapien was a girl this "depressed" mode you speak of sounds like it should be renamed "PMS" mode (RealEstrogen engine 2.3) instead

"The MPAA is in a much different situation. Box office receipts aren't down at all -- 2003's figures were $9.5 billion, the second biggest in history"

...but why am I not suprised at this fact-- people still pay for movies because they go for the theatre experience: the incredibly expensive sound system, gigantic screen, and comfortable chairs. How many people would get that same experience by downloading it? People download movies for the convenience, but go to the theater for the full experience.

It's one thing to find a usage notice, it's another to get billed outright. This guy got billed $16,243.85 for his bandwidth usage. Do a google on "Alex Sacui" to get the full story. Sounds like he got scammed with a sudden change in terms of service. I like the part in the letter that says "If this balance is not paid in full we will take whatever further action is necessary to collect payment", I imagine fat henchmen knocking on this guy's door.

Guess I should take my pr0n torrent links down before my ISP decides to fsck me over

  14. Might be offtopic, but...... on Star Wars Producer Says Box Office is Doomed · · Score: 3, Insightful

Anyone notice how this is similar to what's going on right now with the video games industry? I mean, the current generation of consoles we have now can easily render the stuff we find in the arcades. This is a problem for many arcade-owners and developers alike--because since the games at home are just as good graphically, it's less of a reason for Joe Gamer to go to the arcade. (Of course, developers are getting more clever with this by using special controllers, etc.) So, like with DVDs and the theaters, people have less of a reason to leave their houses.
