Try moving to Rio (joke)... Brasilia is Brazil's Capital since 1960, when it replaced Rio. Since it was built mostly from scratch to be an administrative/government city, i guess the lack of THX cinemas is not very surprising - it's not such a big city!
I was thinking of this a little while ago, it's a really good idea. Anyway, every Debian mirror out there can easily saturate my 512 kbps connection, but BitTorrent would be much more fair on resource usage.
Someone mentions the "overhead of a tracker", id say the overhead of a tracker is nothing compared to the number of pipes/servers the Debian project has to server its DEBs over FTP/HTTP.
Too bad APT was written in Perl and not in python, it would have been easier to implement. Maybe emerge will get emerge-torrent faster:)
4.3 isn't in unstable because of cross-platform compatibility issues. Every person using Sid out there knows they can get XFree86 4.3 from Debian Experimental for x86 and it works great. Now, can you mention another package in a similar situation?
Debian stable is undoubtedly the best distro to put on a server. Every single package or combination of them has already been tested. I have yet to see anything that doesn't work on stable, or anything whose debconf script would set up perfectly. That said, Debian Stable's target is obviously *not* the desktop.
Yeah i've got a bunch of those too and i can only play them in XMMS using the Musepack plugin for it. Forget about converting to anything else, and as *obviously* no cd recording program supports it i can't even record cd's from it. Too bad, as they sound pretty nice.
You should look at Morphix, a knoppix-like which is intended to be "morphed" (customized to fit your needs). What you are saying is exactly what i have done: create a custom bootable image that fits into a mini cd, all the apps want (GTK2 only to save space, but i'm at 140 MB of 200 on the mini cd, so i could still fit KDE ^_^.
I created a GnuPG key for the user settings: knowing the passphrase (or decrypting my files), I can load them to have mail, bookmarks, ICQ and everything else set up on the fly.
This happened to my dad once: a security agent asked him to turn on his notebook but the battery was empty. They took him into a weird room, managed to get his bag out of the plane, extract the battery charger, turn it on and wohoo here you go!
Tippy tip: When you install the nvidia drivers you have to actually *load* the driver (aka kernel module). No X until you do this. Everytime I install i forget to do this, so it might help for you: # sh NVIDIA bolablabla # modprobe nvidia # exit $ startx
You could also have read the debian installation manual here: http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/ ch-boot -floppy-techinfo.en.html#s-rescue-replace-kernel That would have teached you to replace the kernel on a boot floppy for a more recent one, specially since your hardware is newer than the 2.4.18 kernel included in the woody floppies. For example, in order to install to a SATA disk you have to get a boot floppy that has a kernel including the libata patches, so you build one in a snap and youre just fine. Maybe you should read a bit more an bitch less.
The parent doesnt have a clue (quoting debian.org): "Debian GNU/Linux provides more than a pure OS: it comes with more than 8710 packages" And that is just Debian GNU/Linux aka Woody, there are zillions of extra packages in sid + unnofficial apt sources.
No, you just dont let people post on the newsgroup. Then, in each newsgroup article you put a link at the bottom just like the "reply to this" one, with a link to the slashdot page that you use to reply to it. You then open it in your browser. This NNTP idea is very good, to bad slashdot guys are more conservative than Debian Woody;)
Besides APT for RPM, another Conectiva goodie are the Crystal Icons for KDE made by Everaldo Coelho (www.everaldo.com) for this distribution, and now adopted for KDE 3. I use them in my blog, too:)
Yeah, but the problem with your analogy is that the speed-of-light limitation is valid for *everything*, so *your* speed limit might be 3 mph, but neither the truck or yourself can go faster than light, as your energy would have to be infinite (according to Einstein's general relativity). This thing about space expanding is pretty confusing, so i really cant imagine if "space" can be considered particles (since lately mostly everything can be considerer particles).
Any person with slight maths knowledge would now it. The factorial thing in probability is used for cases where you are taking off one option every time, like, say, a box where you take colored balls out but *dont* put them back in before you take of another one. The number of balls is thus reduced by one at every extraction, giving (4 balls): p()=4*3*2*1=4!=24 Our case is more like: p()=2*2*2*2
You can't do that. Any code that was ever GPL'd will remain GPL'd. It's not like Linus could take the kernel and say "now it's mine". And as you would be working on a GPL'd code, you would have to release the modifications too, so... kinda pointless.
I will never forget the 1st chapter on the IpTables-howto. It writes: "Who the hell are you, and why are you playing with my kernel?" This guy r0x0rz:)
1) ssh server 2) apt-get update && apt-get upgrade 3) Do you want to continue? [Y/n] y Get:1 http://security.debian.org stable/updates/main ssh 1:3.4p1-1.1 [642kB] 4) minimize xterm to see the nice pink vortex in the desktop background (in other terms, PROFIT!!)
What *i* dont get is why some people keep bashing stuff they dont know! I could install the full 7 cds of packages in those five hours using the following process: 1) copy every package to a single floppy from the cds 2) insert floppy on dst machine 3) copy package to hd and so on for every floppy, and then: $ for each in `ls`;do dpkg -i $each;done
And that would take less than five hours. I can understand people saying "uhh boot-floppies is *so* hard" or "*so* out of date", but it is pretty damn efficient. I am up and running in 15 mins if i just install the base system (thats what i do, then i switch to unstable). Plus, debian-installer is under heavy testing and development, in order to provide a nice installer. Subscribe to debian-testing@lists.debian.org in order to keep up with it.

More Gnome developers... /
Man i don't think that's a nice joke given how recent this is. :
*ROFLMAO*
if only i had mod points - *snif*

NetBSD you say?
Guess what? There's Debian/[GNU/]NetBSD!

Here's a torrent with the site, take it easy d00dz.
The file is 3.9 Mb.

Commenting that out is the first rule of uptime. No one should get more than 3 days up with that uncommented. Amen.

Too bad you think countries should know a lot about winning wars.
