  1. Playing videos in-place on Google Expands to 'Universal' Search · · Score: 1

I do get videos "mixed in the normal results", but I can't watch *those* in-place. That only works on the "video" result page. Seems like combining that would have been a logical next step here...

Desktoptwo seems to be using a VNC applet to render Acrobat and OpenOffice application GUIs, so no "web-based Java version of OpenOffice", just horribly compressed visuals in a laggy VNC window to a machine running OO.

What really ticks me off in "modern" MMORPGs is the carebear attitude towards the players. Why don't they just hand out everything to everyone?

I think this carebear attitude is why Blizzard got the millions of subscribers and billions of cash. It's the wide appeal of the game and the "no real penalties for losing" gameplay that attracts most people to the game. Compare this to the number of EVE players, where you can literally lose your ship and money (and hence "lose" time played). EVE is more interesting for "hardcore" players, but not as "newbie-friendly", which inherently limits the player base.

  6. Comparison Criteria on Ten Most Used BitTorrent Sites Compared · · Score: 3, Interesting

The sites are compared by number of torrents, new torrents per day and "site features". This does not reflect a site's usability at all! What is importent is the average seeder/leecher quota and the availability + quality of "fresh" material. Those are obviously much harder to measure.

For example, BTJunkie is "Editor's Choice" because it lists the most torrents, including "private" ones they find using a Google-likc web crawler. This means lots of available content, but can you guess how much junk/old/inactive torrents you will find there? I think you have to test the sites yourself to find what suits your requirements best. Still, good list of the "bigger" torrent sites there.

  7. My prediction on Hawking Says Humans Must Go Into Space · · Score: 0

I suspect that when a (short) nuclear war happens, there will be few humans left and the survivors will have to go back to a fairly primitive existance. Then, after a couple hundred years, the technology level will be roughly as it is today, and everything will repeat...

That is, unless we change enough to stop putting greed and envy above all else. Very unlikely...

I thought that was Han Solo's line.

That's right. Many SW characters have uttered that line in the movies, but I think it was Han that "invented" it. And not to be nitpicking, but it's "I HAVE a bad feeling about this".

If I provided only a second of content (say for a movie) how liable am I then for damages since I'm not providing the whole work?

Since you're downloading the files, you eventually have them complete. Unless you abort an incomplete download, you are automatically providing the complete files in the end.
