    2) Would it be possible to swtich your company's failed T1 through a secondary route to the internet? Most T1 Providers offer this.

If DVD movie directors/manufacturers of computer aided or graphic films included some "How To" Documentaries on what it takes to be this sort of film maker or how to create the scenes, in their releases it would be a great start.

I noticed that The new Star Wars films don't include much info like this but other films like Shrek have great information on how films are made.

A great example of a good, non-computer film (education) documentary is the Criterion Release of Stephen Soderbergh's Traffic. There's an incredible section on this DVD that goes into great detail on how many of the scenes were filmed and processed. You get to see how Benico Del Toro's scenes in Mexico were shot versus other geographically different scenes of the film.(Things like this are why DVD's rule!)

Showing how movies are made, in detail, behind the scenes, are a great way to generate interest in Computer/Digital Filmmaking. Especially when said documentaries are added to DVD packages.

The game is a blend between city-building games and games of guile like Diplomacy and Illuminati. There's no combat - you must win by smart management and sharp-witted negotiation, not by weapons. The game has a plot that unfolds in response to player actions, and when the story is over, the game ends.

    Illuminati eh?

I've got to give this game a look solely based on the creators being influnced by this game. I didn't think that anyone played this awesome game. Here's the link to the main Illuminati site. Illuminati is, wihtout a doubt, one of the best and most original games ever made.

  16. Suggestion for dating. on Some Geek Guides for Dating · · Score: 4, Insightful

I live in Seattle and this town is probably one of the worst towns in the US (Next to Silicon Valley) to be a single guy in.

Bars are never an option due to the fact that the majority of women are literally afraid of being 'hit on' or some other personality issue (usually because they didn't get that pony from daddy on their 16th birthday or someting like that).

I've also found (IMO) that attitudes on Dating/picking up women vary from City to City.

In Vancouver B.C., people love to go out and have fun. This is a great place to go meet down to earth women.

In San Fanciscisco, women are approachable but they like to get to know you for a bit and then go from there.

London is like Vancouver but magnified by 10 when it comes to living life and having fun.

I explored many options and have found some things that work:

1)Take Group Dance lessons. Salsa, Swing, whatever. In most dance studios you have to switch partners throughout the class and you can talk/flirt during the lessons.

2)Go to public bars or places that offer formal dancing (salsa and swing especially). Women who go to most of these places in Seattle are going to dance or have fun. These places are great if you want to get to know someone without the bar 'stigma' of one night stands or geting shot down in flames. Also, a great icebreaker, while dancing, is telling them that you're learning how to dance. Women will eat that up.

Take classes in non-technical topics you want to learn about. This is a great way, in the very least, to meet people who share the same interest as you

(side note the 'gold digger' types of women don't tend to frequent these places)

I've never tried a dating service or enlisted 'professional' services. However, I've seen friends who have used dating services and the toughest part of Dating services is writing your 'about me' section and what picture you use. (Make the picture a good one. Even if you have to use Photoshop/The Gimp..just kidding).

The main problem with witing your bio are the differences in writing and creativity of men Vs. women. In the Seattle area publicaion, the Stranger, check out the differnce in writing styles of the 'Men Seeking Women' and 'Women seeking Men' sections. (side note: This link may be busy or down today due to the Stranger's publicaion of free valentines ads/love notes on a different part of this site)

See how the 'Men seeking ads are so bland and the 'Women seeking are much more creative? You gotta put some serious work in the bio to get noticed. You gotta find a way to show how you stick out amongst all the other candidates.

Keep in mind, just because you may get shot down, it's not your fault. It's something with them. Also, just because you may not have a connection with a woman you meet, don't burn bridges. She may very well have a single friend(s) for you to meet. I've definitely hooked up in this manner before

Finally, (and this is the most important one) don't, under any circumstances, regress into techno-babble mode for the non-technical type women. Just say you play with computers all day and leave it at that. Once you're seriously dating, then resume the techno-babbble.

Digital Camera Phones, walkie-talkies, pda's, text messaging, are other attempts to capitalize on what Cell Companies think the public needs. They haven't a clue. The answer is so simple. The thing is that cell companies will never figure out what the answer is. (Which brings us back to the dog chasing it's tail example.)

The following quotes are from one of the many links in the above article:

"The user interface in MIDP 2.0 gives application developers more control over the look and feel of their applications," Lorain said.

It (Java/MIDP 2.0) mandates a standard method for downloading programs over cell phone networks. That's likely to be a boon to software and wireless companies that want to make money selling cell phone programs.

Sun is Suing MS for what reason?

    "Mmmmmm Monopoly" - H. Simpson

    ...and...

The extra 100K of required memory may also make it impossible to upgrade some Java-enabled handsets already on the market, Yach said. These phones simply don't have enough room and, unlike with personal computers, most cell phones can't be upgraded with more memory.

(Must Be said like Captain Kirk) Damnit Scotty, Make that OS Fit! I don't care about performance!!!

Bill Nguyen, founder of wireless messaging company Seven, says that MIDP 2.0 will be used predominantly for "heavy" business applications, so his company will work on applications along those lines. Seven's wireless messaging is offered by Sprint PCS, Cingular Wireless and U.K-based Mmo2.

Hmmm. So the Advancements to Solitare will be what?
