I'd rather much use XPDF or other programs anyway. Acrobat Reader on Linux is very, very slow, and with a non-Adobe program you can do things (such as print pages) that the Adobe version won't let you do because of security 'features'
Supposedly the controller came with 65000 games but there were only about 25 or so actual games. They were merely repeated over and over like the old 100-in-1 bootleg Nintendo cartridge that had serveral versions of the same games.
I like it in the microwave. Throw a few slices in there wrapped in a paper towel, nuke it until it sizzles, then put it on slices of bread with mustard.
Downloading recent Linux releases was HELL the traditonal ways.
I downloaded the 2GB+ release of Fedora Core in a little over an hour and a half. Bittorrent on a broadband connection. I even left it open for a couple days and let others download about 15GB worth of it.
What's this have to do with anything? It really doesn't mean anything.
Linux is EXPENSIVE from Dell. Most people are going to do what we did, buy Dell $329 servers, and install a downloaded version of (insert your favorite distribution)
The PSX was inferior to the N64. The PS2 is inferior to the GC and the Xbox.
But, they got the products out to market first. And, they treated the developers good, even if it isn't a easy platform to develop for. Plus, they didn't use any fancy, proprietary, and expensive media formats (such as the N64 cartridges or the GC's mini-CD's)
They don't have any of these advantages this time.
I remember getting an issue of Popular Science and there was a $99 Computer on the cover.
Couldn't do much, but hey this was the very early 80's. I remember going to the local drugstore and seeing it in the case. $99. BASIC! What more could you want?
Here's a little disclaimer. On at least 2 of the laptop models (700M, 9100), they shut the $750 rebate off in a matter of hours
The deal on any of the laptops was only good until 6:00am the next morning anyway. That's a very small window of time to be informed, and then order something like this.
On the other hand, Apple sells $999 iBooks every day.
We're not talking Dell stuff here though... most of us realize the price is good here...
But this is talking about businesses authorized to resell Apple branded products.
I actually replied to the wrong post.
When I ordered my Powerbook, I didn't take the bunde deal the PC Mall offered. Well, actually I did take the 'double the memory to 512MB', where you really have to pay $29.99 for the installation, but I didn't take the cheap notebook bag, $59 inkjet printer, or the useless software bundle. It was all rebate/shippng-related anyway...
Sure, he didn't stay up late writing the first versions of Word, Excel, or even Windows, but he was a programmer. Rumor was the last product he actually worked on was a version of BASIC in the 80's.
Why code when you can take over the world. He's way to old to really be a programmer these days, anyhow.
WASHINGTON (UPI) -- Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., supported by television's gentle ``Captain Kangaroo,'' said Wednesday the video game industry is contributing to violence in America with its graphic depictions of force and sex and warned it to regulate itself before the federal government does.
``We're talking about video games that glorify violence and teach children to enjoy inflicting the most gruesome forms of cruelty imaginable,'' Lieberman said.
Lieberman, 51, the father of four children, said he will introduce legislation calling on the video game industry to set up a uniform, credible system to warn parents about the content of such games as ``Mortal Kombat'' and ``Night Trap.''
Shown at a news conference, ``Mortal Kombat'' involves a martial contest with blood gushing from a fighter's head, and the winner decapitating his opponent, then displaying the head attached to a spinal cord. ``Night Trap'' involves hooded men seizing a sorority woman in her nightgown and draining her blood.
Every couple years a game comes out and people try to put blame on it. More kids have killed each other imitating 'pro wrestling' than video games.
You don't see anyone trying to shut down the WWE, do you?
I could have swore that when the new iMac came out, Apple had a blurb on their webpage about how it would run Doom 3.
Now I can only find UT 2004. Link
He'll run in 2008 and probably win, unless the Republicans can figure something out by then.

Aren't there quite a few Adobe programs that run/ran on IRIX?
This would almost be a way for SGI to re-enter the market, with Linux/Adobe workstations. Out-Macintosh the Mac, I guess.

You mean Action 52??
I like it in the microwave. Throw a few slices in there wrapped in a paper towel, nuke it until it sizzles, then put it on slices of bread with mustard.
Yum.
It'd probably be just as easy to use an automatic tranmission cooler. Much smaller and easier to use.
Here's an example
$50, and it'd be new, instead of have an old rusty car part in your house.
Bittorrent IS the way to go.

Do post offices need their own TLD?
Come on!
You can tell who's the driving force behind todays Internet standards
Alternatively, I just hold ctrl and scroll the mouse up, then down really quick.

Game Gear and Lynx both advertised '4-6 hour battery life'
They both failed. Why? They ate through batteries too fast.
The original Gameboy lasted 15-35 hours. If I took my Gameboy on a family trip, I'd get bored of it before the batteries ran out.
It's 1 guy and 2 girls. He's doin' both chicks!
He must have won a million dollars.

Gee, imagine finger length being correlated to programming skills.
It's not the size that matters, it's how you use it.
The only programs I remember being written in Pascal were BBS Doors and demos.
Delphi lives on to this day...
How is this different from downloading the latest album from Green Day?

How long will the free CD's last?
Do they take donations or what?
Good point. You could upgrade from a G3 laptop from 1998 to a new iBook for $500. Those things keep their value very, very well.
Sucks for those of us who would like to buy older Macintosh hardware, but it's great for repeat Apple customers.

Do you know what you get from Dell at the $999 price point? (Inspiron 1150 or 1100)
90-day warranty on some models.
7lb, 2-inch thick 'portable'
1.5 hour battery life!
2.2 GHz Celeron processor (1100), or a 2.8GHz P4 (115)
No CD-RW (1150)
Integrated graphics adapter
Let me tell you what you don't get:
BlueTooth
Firewire
AirPort wireless networking
S-VIDEO/Composite output
You can't even get a 12.1" notebook from Dell unless you pay $1,159
