    LATEST NEWS:
Oct 07, 2005 - Forward potr of gaim-vv 1.2.0 to gaim cvs head is working. I would like to clarify that gaim-vv isn't completely dead, we're working on merging with gaim. There will be no further gaim-vv releases, as code will be added to the main gaim program.

For those who don't know gaim-vv was a friendly fork to get stuff like webcams working - last release allowed users to view webcams from MSN, yahoo

If two or more people (possibly unknown) agree to do something illegal but a civil and/or minor offence - eg copyright infringement - conspiring to do so is a felony punishable by up to 20 years jail in Australia at least.

So sharing a file may be bad and infiringing copyright, but joining a swarm is consipring to commit an offence.

  5. Try this line on Global Warming Past The Point of No Return · · Score: 1

I agree with you, but have found a simple "thought" experiment sometimes works well.

Next time someone says global warming is not or may not be real, ask them what they know of physics and of thermodynamics in particular.

Take billions of tonnes of stored energy locked up in carbon based fuels and burn them.

Would you expect such an act to raise the local temperature?

Now the residue (CO2 etc) is known to limit IR emmissions so you are trapping more energy.

Why do you not expect this to raise the local temperature?

As the Earth, the thermodynamics here, is almost a black body radiator and can only dump so much energy per unit time - what is the point at which this release of energy can't be released through blackbody radiation immediately and the local stored energy, hence local temp, increases.

    Here local means planet Earth?

Please correct where I screwed up this argument.

Does it ever become economic to take all that research and make a library/guide of it?

Maybe some student looking for a research project - maybe funded by one of the big foundations - or a government - could document at least some of it so people can see what are and aren't blind alleys.

The people/company/gov that controls cheap earth to LEO+ will dominate any part of near Earth space they want.

If the USAF want to domiante the Lagrange points then they had better get off their asses and into their own and NASA's files and find out what does and doesn't work in terms of lifting mass to orbit.

Otherwise it will the next in line - China, Europe or India. Or a South American country in 20 years when they get over their current economic problems.
