And yet Kerry not only lost by lawyer-proof margins, Bush became the first President since FDR (1936) to win reelection and increase his party's power in both the House and Senate.

Also the first President since 1916 (Woodrow Wilson) to win by such a small margin.

Why doesn't this article's title read:

"Grigori Perelman May Have Solved Poincare Conjecture"

I've noticed that these kinds of announcements often make a point of appending a nationality to the name of the person involved in the discovery. Surely this proof builds on mathematical knowledge from around the world. Or was Grigori Perelman standing solely on the shoulders of "fellow Russian" mathematicians? I highly doubt it...

What about star trek? That was an awfully utopian vision of the future... Actually, I have this nagging suspicion that having been introduced to Star Trek at an age when the distinction between reality and fiction was not entirely clear to me is at least partially responsible for my disillusionment with the world I find myself living in.

Looking up figures on a table != *thinking* - certainly no more so than using a computer to compute answers does. The idea should be to focus on the concepts behind the computation, and computers do have a lot of potential when it comes to introducing concepts.

My guess is that Kate Rose just signed her concept sketches of Asuka. And the same is probably true about "Ray". So, don't freak out about those names just yet..
