I use iChat on my Mac, and I got my friend to use AIM because it's compatible with iChat.
Are there any other compatible alternatives that my friend could use instead? Short of him buying a Mac, of course, although he would if he had the money...:)
When I first read Microsoft to Disable Online Windows Activation, I thought 'Woohoo!"
Until I read the text, that is. =( Crap, I was planning on doing a reinstall in the next couple weeks since everything's really messed up - but I won't have time until well after the 28th. =(
And check out the iPod firmware update, too.

Don't follow the imdb link... the Amazon.com link is where the trailer's at. Seems funny, them hosting a trailer... I guess they think it boost their sales or something.
You sure you watched the trailer on the Amazon site? It's different from what both Apple and the official web site have - the old trailer with the "It's a wonderful world" song playing. this one's an actual trailer.
Unless there's another Quicktime trailer site I don't know about, Apple still has the old teaser with the Louis Armstrong (I think?) song playing in the background. This one is completely different.
Am I the only one who doesn't get terribly excited about online gaming? I'd much rather play a game with a friend who's in the same room, than someone I've never met from some place I've never heard of.
The exception would be playing a multiplayer game with a friend over the internet, but I don't consider that to be "online gaming", no different than playing over a LAN (except the physical location, of course).
That would be the iFlix software, listed on Apple's web site along side all the other oodles of shareware and freeware they list, that Apple has nothing to do with.
Just like you can't suspect Walmart owns Hershey because they have Oh Henry bars on their shelves.
Besides, I just downloaded iFlix to see what it is, and it looks like it's just a torrent search engine. I doubt this is the sort of technology Apple would be interested in. They could cobble something together themselves that would be way better than this.
If you're referring to Apple's iWork that was announced last Tuesday and will be available this Friday, I don't think it really counts as an "office suite." It's just a word processor and presentation software. I suspect that they'd have to at least include a spreadsheet for it to count as an office suite.
And from what I've seen, it's a whole lot better than what I've seen of OOo! So if it is based on OOo in some way, they did a phenomenal job at fixing it up! I've played with OOo a bit, and I've always thought it was kinda ugly. Even more so, since I got my Mac.
That being said, I would gladly run out and by iWork this Friday if there weren't other financial considerations...;(
And regarding your point about OSX being based on the Linux kernel, you're close, but mistaken. OSX is based on BSD, and uses a Mach kernel and not Linux. But it's still Unix based nonetheless.
Plus, I would suspect that a majority of the speed increase between versions was due to the release of Quartz Extreme, in whichever version it was added. I think it would be cool to see a benchmark of the same OS, on the same hardware, comparing a system with Quartx Extreme to plain old unaccellerated Quartz.
Whoever thought of the idea of offloading the UI's graphics operations to the video card was a genius. Unless it was a Microsoft employee, that is...;)
I've had this ViewSonic VG150 LCD display for 3-4 years I think, and there's still no dead pixels I can see. Whenever I think I see a dead pixel, turns out it's just a speck of dirt on the screen.
And my LCD monitor at work looks fine to me too. Actually, I don't think I've ever noticed a dead pixel before on any LCD monitor I've seen.
Since there have been several popping up in almost every post lately, can someone please explain the joke behind all the "In Korea, only old people..." posts?
At least it gives a break from the same old "All Your Base" and "In Russia..." jokes. =)
The parent post isn't about transferring music to an iPod. The point is that you currently can't access iTMS without using iTunes, and there's no iTunes for Linux.
I just placed my first - and last - order on playstation.com. I only ordered from them in the first place, because they were the only place I could find the particular games I was looking for, which were for a Christmas present.
Well, rather than receiving my order, I received a pair of emails stating that my credit refund had been processed. When I asked why I was getting a refund, I was told that they had received my return, so I they were refunding the order - but I wasn't informed about any refund on the shipping.
Of course, I knew I hadn't returned the order, since I didn't even receive it to begin with. Obviously they must have shipped it to the wrong address, and it got refused on delivery. I double-checked the order's details, and I indeed got the shipping information correctly so it's their shippers at fault. But, rather than resend my order, I was politely informed that I need to place a new order - no mention about receiving a refund on shipping, or any special code to enter to not pay shipping on the new order.
Needless to say, I have no intention of ordering from Playstation.com in the future, and informed them that I would warn everyone I know not to order from them. I told them that if they can't either resend my order, without me having to place a new order myself and pay for shipping twice, or refund me for the shipping on the order I never received, I would call up Visa and have them cancel the transaction. Now to wait for their response.
I can drive down to somewhere in Washington and buy a particular CD for $15 USD. Or I can buy the same CD back home in Vancouver for $15 CAD, and not $19. Thus, it only seems fair that we're also only charged $0.99 instead of $1.25 or something similar. Plus, this also ensures that their sales are cheaper than physical CDs. i.e. the new U2 CD is available here for $12-13, but is only $10 on iTMS.
The same pattern exists with DVDs, BTW. Same numbers, just different currency.
That's like saying a toaster made by X is only half usable until X also sells bread. And a Starbucks coffee maker is still 100% functionable if you purchase coffee beans from somewhere other than Starbucks...
But I completely agree with you that it's exciting to finally have iTMS available for more than just browsing.

Never mind... just read the article more thoroughly, and it's just OEM copies that are affected. =D

Or am I just really lucky?

The title is "HP Sells Cheap FreeDOS PC .
Meaning they're selling PCs with FreeDOS, NOT that they're selling FreeDOS.
I read the title as "A Strange Steak Imaged in Australia.

I believe this is what he means:

a product that up till now, was only half usable

I agree. OSX is the main reason I bought my Mac. Before then, I wouldn't have dreamed of buying a Mac.
I've had mine for about 15 months now, with very heavy use. Still works fine.
to let a bucket of water run empty?
Answer: only 1
Depends on the location of the holes... A hole right near the top will never drain the bucket. =)
DNA never specified it was shaped like a shoe to fit a human foot, did he? :)
