Its called SOC(system operator code) locking. ANd sure the companies could get rid of it, but equipment pricing would go up. The 'free phone offers' everyone gets so excited about has its downsides. Higher end phones (v60 back in the day) generally arn't SOC locked but there are exceptions to every rule.
a) I work in attws customer service, we ARE still maintaining the TDMA network. b) you can switch plans all you want without a contract extension, its accepting the new PROMOTIONS that extends the contract, do a plan with no promos and you dont have to extend
Why do they keep picking games with such shallow premices, AITD etc. Why not Morrowind instead of Dungeon Seige, I'd rather see that. I'm sure its to appeal to the mass market, but mass market action games don't always translate well to movies (wing commander).
Reminds me of that guys keynote speech, Linus might think there will be a focus on developers, but will he stand there sweaty on a stage and repeat it like 37 times.
Funny part is it seemed to me watching the vid as part of a red-vs-blue skit that he was trying ot start a chant or some clapping neither of which materilized, near the ned sounded like he was crying.
It was the ship to ship combat I liked a lot, and it was damn pretty. I had no end of problems with the getting the damn thing to run right or for more then 5 min but when it did it was nice. I only played the story line for a little bit, I found the sailing and combat system so much more intersting, the swordfighting system was...well HORRID, but ship to ship ruled, and very pretty.
From what I read, the only influence that POTC: THe movie had on the game was the name. Its actually a sequal to something called Sea Dogs. Theres still references here and there in the file structure to it. The name was kinda slapped on due to the movie. I rather enjoyed it but its not for everyone I suppose.
Other then the driving parts I loved Enter the Matrix, it was like max payne with the kung fu mod and better bullet time, the driving parts were HORRENDOUS.
Black and white I loved too, highly innovative, more of a proof of concept then a game however, I never played it for more then maby 10hrs total.
Some friends of mine and I went to just for laughs this summer, he's done to the same area of the city before and always used MapQuest.
This time, he used Yahoo! maps, my gawd, the directions had us go basically in a big circle at one point, involved a lot more direction changes and small capacity streets, in general adding bout an hour to the trip.
The MapQuest instructions, like 3 turns mostly highway to highway, and ONLY on main streets, we used them on the way back, WAY faster, and on the way back there was actually a lot more traffic because of the shows letting out.
DISCLAIMER: Montreal, QC, Canada is not the easiest city to get around in in the first place like most big citys its built up, out, and round and round so the streets are a mess.
Well one of the labs in the running is actually developing them for use in fusion, this is a side effect kinda thing, and the military paying for the weapon would help fund the research side of things. NOthing pushed forward technology like military spending
True, but the article seems to have a corperate slant, and really how many corperations have Quake installed (that they know about).
And with games such things are expected but corperations are notoriously slow to move to new tech especially with something as high cost as an OS.
And programmers a lot of them at least especially ones that maintain a set of applications are slow to migrate, I wrote a tool for a company I worked for in vb6 and maintained it in that, problem is I hit some limits of what vb6 could do so I learned and moved to vc++, the training time/cost for a company for this can be enourmous, plus the time to rewrite the app and re-debug an already stable program.
In short, if it isn't broke, big companys won't bother fixing it until something forces them to. Its only now we're starting to hit forces that are forceing them away from win98 and vb6
I dont see why it requires a seperate api, the software should be able to extrapolate, a simple directX extension should allow all exisiting appz to display properly i would think. Now it does come with software to do this in some applications. As long as the viewing angle is tightly controlled which if im reading how this works right it is, rewriting shouldnt be neccicary, although u could tweak to make it look better
It is possible on PC too, I used to do it with 2 old pci ati cards on 98, but XP won't allow it because they both want the same memory range or something and there was a 'hack' in 98 that allowed it to work, I've heard rumours of a similar hack for higher end windows but by that time my geforce3 had arrived so I went to that agp card and one pci.
I didn't get my licence till about...6 months ago, im 23 now. Drinking age here is 18. Not sure in vancouver, its kinda odd to require something like that. I can understand the need for id'ing but why a non required non related card, on ontario we have LCBO cards or others that would make more sense. "I'm sorry, you want to buy porn? You'll have to go get a pilots liscence"
And to add to the list Ontario(Canada) has a barcode and magnetic strip too.
Yes but that would probably result in targeted advertising, which since. a) it keeps the cost of what im doing down, b) it might be stuff im interested in. I would not mind NEAR as much, I for one would sign up for a subscription based service. I'm sure I am not the only one who hasn't had cable for over a year now and dosn't really miss it. Now if I can get JUST the contect I want, with les annoying ads, sign me up.
I was refering to the fact the phraseing excluded them from being scientists, my understanding is that scientist is a HUGE blanket term used for tons of fields of which I consider archaeology one.

I'm thinking the point is more. "If your going to have to do all that retraining anyway, why not do it with us.
You forgot a few:
Found On Road Dead
Fold Over Read Directions
F'er Only Rolls Downhill

And how many Library of Congresses would this power? I mean sheesh, real numbers would be nice:P

PCI ATI Radeon i think its a 7500, its AIW which is why i bought it.
Geforce3 Ti 200 AGP
Both Catalyst and Detonator drivers installed, 0 problems.
They play quite well together, needed the AIW for the tvout and wanted a second monitor.
Thats a rank not a name, he has a real name just is not used in the games, its in the book however.
You are prob more thinking 'GPL' then linux itself, a liscence and os does not make.
The GPL spreads yes, linux itself is a seperate matter.
We don't charactorize Windows by its EULA now do we?

True but with that many channels you can kill 3hrs channel surfing.

Thats not really meant for 'security' for the station itself, if you don't 'login' you don't get access to the network resources thats all.
I was refering to the fact the phraseing excluded them from being scientists, my understanding is that scientist is a HUGE blanket term used for tons of fields of which I consider archaeology one.
And what are archaeologists? Laymen?
Congradulations, you basically just stated the exact points of the article:P
