Now, I ultimately agree with your suggestion: for a number of reasons, it's best to just say, "when real-world currencies change hands, *then* count it as income, but not until". But I don't understand the distinction you tried to make between a gnome and stock
You are the owner of the stock and may sell it. You do not own the gnome and hence may not sell it. Blizzard owns the gnome, and the money you give them allows you to play the gnome but at all times they retain ownership. If you were to attempt to sell the gnome you would be in breach of contract and surely guilty of fraud? (for attempting to sell something you do not own?)

You must be talking about Billginzu The Defiler, one of the new BC instance bosses. That's one of his special attacks. Looks to be quite a challenging instance.
I have a family and a full time job and enjoy playing World of Warcraft when i can fit it in. Honestly I don't understand all the negativity aimed at WoW by "ex" WoW players. Surely you enjoyed the game or you wouldn't have kept purchasing game time and playing it? If you kept purchasing game time and playing, and weren't enjoying yourself that makes you a bit of a fool but doesn't invalidate anyone elses ability to enjoy the game.
Honestly the only thing that irritates me when it comes to WoW is visiting their official forums and seeing the "LOL FiRsT P0St!" retardary that happens at/.
I mean, if they sell an account they give the account to someone else with the password for that account...then the new person has to set up payment for that account using a credit card with a new address etc etc. A simple trace of that would show a different person/credit card/name using that account which should send up a red flag.
In WoW all you have to do is set tha account up using a prepay game card. Person buying the account can then either continue to play with game cards or input their CC info.
ually, if a NZ company does have an incorrect price, they have to stand by it, within reason.
True, however NZ companies also have the right not to do business with whoom so ever they choose which means if they've accidentaly priced
sommit too cheap and are going to loose money
on the sale of that good or service they can simply
refuse to sell it to you at any price. Problem solved.
I'm not a New Zealander, but I doubt that their Fair Trading Act would apply to individuals who aren't running a business. It seems that all you're doing is scaremongering about what is a perfectly reasonable judicial decision.
An individual would more likely than not have to take any dispute with a private trader through the disputes tribunal.
The Commerce Commision does not haul everyone they recieve a complaint about into court. They look at the complaints they have on the books and select novel complaints for prosecution or complaints where a message needs to be sent to a particular industry, which appears to be the case here.
They'll generally prosecute any grievous breaches of the fair trading act too, obviously.

At the risk of appearing flippant, thank you Mr. Lame... err Lane. My eardrums appluad your decision.
I played through the single player part of URU. It was an excerize in frustration, the game controls are absolutely shocking. Making it 3d world is great - yay - woohoo! Trying to move your character around in that 3d world is frustrating at best - and at it's worse well, fuck this, let's play sommit else.
Also played URU Live. Same control issues, but add to that painfully slow and buggy servers to deal with. Cyan won't be getting any money off me for expansion packs, not when the basic game is so severly (for lack of a better word) fucked.
Cheers,
Hose.
Oh what a crock.
If they couldn't use a 3.5 headphone jack because of a genuine lack of space in the machine they should have included an adaptor
in the box.
It's a cynical attempt to wrench a few more bucks out of your wallet, nothing more nothing less.
I'v been waiting darned near 6 months for the PC version of SH2 to make it to NZ... local retailer keeps putting back the shelf date.
They finally removed it from their coming soon section altogether last week. I called em up to ask what the deal was and was told Infogrames wont be bringing it into NZ because they dont think they will sell enough units to justify spending cash to get it classified (pg13/r16 etc).:-(
Am having to import a copy from Oz. Tis a sad state of affairs I tells ya.
Pretty underwhelmed at this news.

On my PC's WGA no longer phone's home every time an internet connection is found. Used to though.
*shrugs* Take from that what you will.

I made a vague attempt to read the patent document, but lets face it those aren't written for mere mortals.
So what's the actual invention they are trying to patent?
Seriously.
And yet a sequal to the Longest Journey has been in production for nearly a year now.

Clearly Funcom is a sucker for punishment. =)
