The problem isn't with degrees or experience ... most of the time people don't want to hire you knuckleheads because you've all got the personality of a kumquat

Personality is not reflected in the tens of thousands of resumes received for tech jobs. You are lucky if you even get a chance to show personality in a face to face interview.

College degrees mean crap in computers, anyway. Most of the better developers either don't have a degree, or have some throw-away degree like animal husbandry or forest sciences.

Not true. I just got a fairly high paying tech job about 6 months ago based on my degree and past experience. I had a 1 1/2 yr downtime where I sent over 9,000 resumes out before I landed this one. Luckily it pays well and I like it. Even if it hadn't I would still stay here after all of that.

You get paid for what you've done and what you know, not for where you went to school. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot who will soon see his group's productivity plummet from hiring a bunch of pedigreed graduates with little experience.

Times are changing again. This was true in the .com days, but no more. The first half of that statement is what gets your resume in the trash bin these days when the employer wants someone who they can pay minimal and doesn't have enough experience to leave ASAP. The 2nd half of this statement ...well that is just flamebait. Thanks for contributing to the hatred/holier than thou/anyone-who-doesn't-believe-me-is-an-idiot mentality on this board. Like I said, myself and many of my friends are finally seeing results from our degrees and past experience in the last year. Job growth is fairly steady right now. However, I don't think there will ever be enough jobs to fill the void left by the .com bust where anyone who knew how to install a sound card could get an IT job.

    1) The World is Flat (see Jobe and the International Flat-Earth Society) What the...?

    2) But for Adam, no suitable helper was found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and brought her to the man. So where does it say the woman has a different # of ribs? This is a common mistake made by people who go by hearsay.

    3) The Earth was completely covered with water (something every geologist disputes) Funny I found many hits on google from geologists who do not dispute this. Like this one Also they have found fossils several thousand feet up in the mountains, like you said.

    4) A women reproduced asexually (a feat claimed by a number of pregnant teenagers) OK here is a spin on this. If you believe in evolutionism rather than creationalism, how does the first creature to crawl out of the pond scum get pregnant and spawn more? By this argument, it can't happen that way either.

I find running both of these and using the yahoo spyware blocker is pretty effective. The yahoo thing doesn't catch all of them but I notice the # found by spybot and ad-aware went down quite a bit after installing it. FYI, if anyone hasn't upgraded to 1.05 of ad-aware I recommend doing so. I found about 30 more spyware programs on my Mom's computer after the upgrade after scanning with the most up to date definitions on 1.03.

However, you are incorrect that you should apply for credit all at once as there is a cap on the number of hits.

This changed in the last year or 2. People were being punished for shopping around for better rates on loans and taking a hit for each inquiry by a creditor. Oh wait I see..you said the same thing I did in the next paragraph. I said for car/home so yeah...1 hit in 30-60 days for rates on car or home....same thing...do them all at once for minimum hit on credit score ;)

Everyone is entitled to see their credit report once a year for free. It has been that way as long as I can remember. The hard part was figuring out how to get it. If you ever applied for credit and were denied you were supposed to get a form to allow you to get a copy of the credit report for free to see why you were denied. This was only once a year. I actually had a website at one point that covered tons of details but it became outdated so I took it down. Don't apply for credit just to get the free credit report. You take a hit for an inquiry. Another piece of advice is that if you ever do apply for credit, do it all at once because there is a cap on how many hits you can take now. Now it is possible to shop around for the best rates when buying a car/home without taking a 100 pt hit on your credit just for all of the inquiries.

I keep hearing how people get sucked into games like this so deep that they neglect family, friends, a life, and just stay locked in a room for days playing. I have never bought an online game because of this. Why charge me $50 then a monthly fee to play it? If I can't play it in single player mode, why charge single player game prices?
