In MY mind, anyone who makes something of their life (e.g. earns lots of money) from nothing is hopefully more likely to do more good than bad in this world.
If you're just given money, I think you're more likely to be a "spoilt brat" and do no good with it...
I know there will be many exceptions to what I've just said, but in general it would be interesting to prove one way or the other.
I'm a programmer and currently thinking about going back home to New Zealand from the UK and working for my company back there on my own (via the wonders of the Internet). I know this sounds like a pretty sweet deal on the face of it, but I'm wondering if I'll get bored without the day to day office interaction with people! Do you work every day at home? How do you cope?
Microsoft might not be producing any real 'killer' products (well, not until the 3rd iteration from history), but if they start throwing themselves at the competition, then the competition is gonna start freaking out and producing an even better product, one would hope. So stop dissing Microsoft for having a go.
The fan is turned off until it is under enough load to heat up enough that the fan needs to turn on. Therefore it is "silent" until the fan turns on. Perhaps they should've said "silent some of the time" to help people who don't read about what they're commenting on:-)
"99.99% of people who use word processors don't get past the part where you hit keys and watch text appear on the screen. Oh yeah, and open and save documents. That's all they ever do.
I'd bet real money that the textarea element in a browser like Firefox provides all the text-editing functionality that these people need, especially if you add spell correct via JavaScript. Hit submit and there's your save function, to a central server that can be accessed from any department. Click a link and there's your file open functionality. Amazing!
You can even do forms! LOL"

>Windows Media Player stinks I tell ya, positively stinks
Why? The latest Windows Media player rips to mp3 if you tell it to (without any plugin), what's wrong with that? If you say "but not as good as xxxx does", can you provide me with proof? I'm actually interested.
Yeah, but it does have one of the best views of the city. You can pretty much make out all of London's major features... well, you only see Canary Wharf in winter when there are no leaves on the trees...
I've noticed that some of the smaller roads are unnammed, but you can still search for them and it will pinpoint where they are for you (e.g. Canon Beck road, London).
YAY! The maps show the underground stations! BOO they don't show where the lines go. Guess that isn't such a big deal, but still.
Also, I've noticed that some of the overground train stations are in the wrong place, not even near the rail lines in some places! I zoomed into my place (Surrey Quays, London) and see that South Bermondsey Station is on a main road... At least they show the rail lines.
> but as far as the end-user is concerned, the effect is identical.
No, you're wrong, the multimap is much more detailed and better looking than google's:-) (as well as being able to display the map at the same time as the image).
Why don't they just delete the IE shortcut from the start menu and desktop and remove any file type associations? They might also be able to delete the iexplore.exe as well?!
So you went through all those years of study and then went into a job that required none or it! Damn. Stick with IT for a while if you like it, if you're good, you make great money doing a job I imagine you would prefer?! Oh well.
How about a VPN connection to the office at LAN speeds for transferring files and accessing databases when out and about? I'd love 100Mb/s at home.

Yeah, and don't J walk either, naughty boy.
and with methanol, "let the mother f****r burn, burn mother f****r, burn".
I am astounded at the number of people that this post has brought out that have no concept of what obvious humour is. Amazing.
It's cheap in the US still! Well, compared to the rest of the world.

OR People don't realise they are downloading ogg files and are getting pissed that they can't play what they've just downloaded.
How can you not think of that easy solution?? You don't design rockets for a living, do you...

Been a few years since I've lived there myself.

Hmm, try clicking the Satellite link, the one with the red "new" icon beside it.
