  2. If you think the matrix is deep, try slashdot... on The Gospel According to Neo · · Score: 5, Funny

Personally, I am impressed by the themes and symbols interwoven in slashdot. For instance, look at the name itself. "Slash"--in ancient Latin this implies a decrease and "dot"---Greek for really small. This implies the quest for the ever smaller, to look beyond minutia with a trained eye. Buddhist if I ever saw it. Then, there is all the bad spelling and grammer, even found in this post. This is the Post-modern idea that we live in an imperfect world, and there is nothing we can do to fix it. But, oh, the Christian irony since spell checkers do exist and we can be saved if only you take the effort to love what is beyond yourself. Oh, I could go on. And, if I was an English major, I would. But to suffice it to say, if you have a million philosophers look at something for a million hours, they will find it to be profound, no matter what it is. The missing idea in this thread that no one wants to talk about is the question "IS NEW SOFTWARE NEEDED?" There will always be a need for specialized apps etc, but commerical software is gaining less every year. We have been through how many revisions of MS word and what has been gained since Word 5? Is it really that much better? At some point, software will die in a way because nothing new is being produced outside of version numbers. 6. Defining momment on New Trailer for The Hulk · · Score: 1

First off, Pmuse, nice post. I wish I had moderator points. You got me to thinking in your descriptions. In many of the descriptions, the essance of the characters were described as fleshed out in certain series of runs of the comments. For example, your iron man is definately from the Armor Wars, where Tony Stark finds out his tech was used to create all armored villans. It struck me how sometimes, someone rights a hero and just nails it. Another example is Frank Miller's "Batman Returns." He has forever left is mark on Batman and has changed the character. The show Batman Beyond is truly a product of his vision. In all these cases, look at the initial character, and compare to the changes made. Sometimes, not even the original author gets it "right." My question is, for the Hulk, has there ever been such a defining momment. I will invite yells here, but for me the comic has been cheesy the few times I read it. If it carries any weight, I think of Bill Bixby in the TV show who put so much humanity into Banner.

Ok, I am not a coder, so don't flame me much. I am just curious about something. People write programs that hunt through the entire web, parse the pages, and find email to record for spam. This does not seem easy to me. So, why are there not effective, agressive counter measures? It seems to me there is a vast and bright talent pool on slashdot. Why are there not programs that spam the spamers with email adresses or something like that? Take the fight to them.
