No, A little different implementation, they are Public land records, such as deeds, mortgages, and any other legally recorded documents. They offer them in the original size they were provided by the county recorder. The file sizes range up to several megabytes depending on if it is a assessor map etc.
This stuff is cool either way, even if it is just "childish spam." Many of us only dream to work on something that will become this large scale.

Fortune 500 companies could probably learn a thing or two...
This Fortune 500 company could teach a thing or two on this subject.
Since before 1999 DataTree has already did this. With over 40 billion land records online, and 600+TB of data, they deliver many millions of images daily. Not to put down FaceBook's Implementation, but DataTree does not need to run 10k webservers and 1800 SQL databases to provide images. It is nice to see the scalability factor of their design, but it does not mean that it is the most efficient way to do things, or to follow and learn from.
I could not agree with you more,
Any machine connected to the internet is un-secure and the more market share linux gains the more hacks and exploits will be seen.
The Linux fan boys will always be more than happy to point out pitfalls of windows, yet these same script kiddies seem to forget to patch their own linux servers leaving them exploitable and open to hackers.
This time around it was pretty boring. The highlight was when Scott Mc'Neal kicked over the punch bowl shouting 'Cowboy Neal Rocks', I have to say not many girls attended and it pretty much verified the fact that even geeks in the future are still un-appealing to the members of the opposite sex.
Hopefully next year it will be better.
Ok,
This is political not a flame.
"John F Kennedy nearly annihilated the entire planet because he wouldn't just make a deal with the russians (sure it would be a small sign of weakness, but jesus christ, the alternative is crazy)."
You must be talking about the cuban missle crisis. When someone parks alot of nukes 100 miles away from your country on a small little island who's economy consists of rum and cigars you better be ready to drop everything and fight for you life, because once nukes are in place there is nothing you can do about it. I want a president to be prepared to go all the way 100 times out of a 100 in that same situation.
"I'd rather have a whore for president than somebody who is as naive as Bush...yes you heard me correctly - I'd rather have a sell-out like Kerry than somebody who actually stands for what they believe in - like Bush."
I thought that not voting was the worst waste of democracy. However Voting against someone who stands for what they believe in and supporting someone who has no beliefs. That takes the cake. I work underneath people like you all day long. You loot and feed off other people because you support the worst in people and reject the quality in others.
For the record (IMHO).
People shout "Anybody but Bush". Im not a huge fan of Bush, but if Kerry wasn't a credible cannidate I would not support him. A sell-out whore is not better. Both Bush and Kerry stand for what they believe in.
Bush is right about one thing. Once you make a decision you have to continue on that path without flopping. Sure we went alone against the UN, sure we invaded the wrong country, sure he pissed off the world. But the world knows without a doubt that when he says something he means it. For better or for worse.
Kerry is a true civil servant of the United States. Look at his story. He fought in Vietnam. When he came home he got involved in the anti-war movement. Ever since then he has been involved in politics. This guy is rich, Beverly Hill Billies rich. The realist in me tells me that he is involved in politics because he truly wants to help out.
Whoever you vote for, vote for them because you think they will improve this great nation of ours, not because they will pay you for telling them about porn sites.
You are right and you raise a valid question who is ultimately responsible for the success of the game. Ultimately it relies on the creative direction, if the franchise owners are responsible for producing the game then they would be responsible for its success or failure.
If the game company contracted to develop the game then by all means they should be rewarded for its success or failure.
You get what you pay for.
You can develop something quickly.
You can develop something cheap.
You can develop something bug free.
You can only pick 2 out of the 3
I actually did not even bother to look at Enter the Matrix because I doubted that Atari could provide a quality game.
I think the franchise holders should encourage quality franchise spin offs such as video games and punish low quality spin offs that may damage the franchise. I think this should go the other way for games made into movies. Every company that has a valued franchise such as the matrix or LOTR or Sesamie Street wants to protect the franchise and keep it from getting over saturated or devalued. In this case Atari/Infogames who I belive releases games that are not ready to be released can damage a franchise. If there was to be a next movie/next game people wont buy that next game because they blew $50 on the first one and it sucked. Temple of Elemental Evil, Masters of Orion 3 are games that I am aware of that Atari has taken a successfull franchise and basically drove the franchise it into the ground in a single release I for one wont buy another atari sequel to those games. As video games / movie / entertainment intergration becomes more frequent, not only franchises need to be protected but also the stars that will be acting in them . Think Jet Lee in the video game rise of honor, or the french actor Jean Reanau. These actors don't want thier image to be tarnished. Bottom Line: If the video game companies promise smashing games they should make smashing games for successfull movies. Not release crap just because they know people will buy the games based on the success of the movie or vice versa.
Ok the Diebold PHB's may be evil - but there has to be a few decent honest developers working at that company. Lets hear from you - Since I am from San Diego I know for certain you were not working on your software. I am assuming that you must have been reading/. at work like the rest of us do.
I find it hard to believe that everyone including the developers are evil at that company. I can only assume the PHB's are not writing the code so if something dishonest was happening I am sure we would hear from an honest developer.
Besides you can always vote with paper by using a mail in ballot.
I agree.
If the internet is truly the last 'wild frontier' I suggest an old west shootem up to resolve who the correct owner of the site is. We will put em to the slashdot test. Whichever site is still
standing afterwords is the righfull owner.
As a young geek teach he should know the importance of
Compound interest.
The more he invests in the future now. When he is older and ready to score with the chicks he will be able to afford to pay for them like the rest of us nerds. Instead of building one, not that he wont be smart enough to. If you don't believe me here is proof that it has worked in the past.
Revenge of the nerds
I have the hacking skills to crack every password on Slashdot. Please send me 2.5 million dollars worth of slashdot subscription or else you will be owned!
You cannot find me, I am too smart open up html e-mails.
I will be in contact again at that point you will bow down to me.
It depends on the quality of IT employees that they have over there. We all have heard how they are well trained and have exellent IT schools there, however there is a large disconnect between going to computer school and understanding how to manage a computer networks. The company I work for has a large department in Bangalore, India. Speaking to a project manager who was hiring some people for his project he told me about some of the tricks that are used over there to get people jobs. One trick is the phone interview, the prospective employee will hire an exellent skilled person to do the phone interview. If you don't meet them in person they sound great over the phone however the lesser skilled person will get the job not the person you spoke to on the phone.
Another store goes how we configured some servers sent them over there, once they got the servers, the changed all of the passwords - and the no of the applications could connect to the database, plus they installed music sharing programs on them:) So from the bottom line aspect it may look good, however they have yet to prove that they can provide the quality they are promising if they don't then you will see alot of Tech shifts away Bangalore as quickly as they went there.
I just had to reinstall Win2k on my machine this weekend and I was dreading the "Re-Install routine". After Installing and all of my apps that I needed - I really couldnt justify to myself to drive to the office and pickup a Office 2k cd to install. I decided to try Open Office as my office suite and Firebird as my mail client. I must say Both applications far exceeded my expectations. Word documents opened up perfectly and the export to PDF feature was a really neat bonus. For me there is really no need for Office 2k and I was thinking this weekend about how far Open Office has come and how many companies can save by installing this application for the Users who really don't need alot of word processing power. I for one want Open Office to succede and will be looking into how I can help improve it.
If Linux only got Low2Moderate - and Windows2k got Moderate2High. Are there any off the shelf OS's that rank equal or better to win2k or is Windows2k the only one out there? Thinking of all the security breaches in Windows2k a Low2Moderate score does not impress me nor does Microsoft when it comes to Security.
I currently use overture to advertise one of my online products. The fact is it would take so long to get my page up on the search rankings that I would miss loads potential revenue for people doing a search for my product. Using overture it costs me $.10 - 1.50 per click depending on the search but the coverage is really good. I pop up on sites I didnt even know existed and I get more downloads then I expected. It is a sad fact but this is the direction the web is going to go. You will have to pay to be seen on the internet or hope that you get the 20,000+ hits to your website to even start to rank in the search list.
I rember seeing this comic the first time and thinking nothing of it. I could not place the comic again until now after looking at the mirror. Is it just me or is anyone else wondering how Americas Greetings found out about this site and why they decided it was worth having thier legal department cause so much trouble over it.
I am working on a project right now in C++ that has to send / read back an XML file - I don't really see many issues with managing the data, after I parse the XML file using MSXMLDom objects and placing my needed data into my classes that manipulate the data. The most current DTD I am working on however is a bit overdesigned to the point of stupidity but having the foresight, I managed to eliminate writing alot of code by capitalizing on inherent propertyies of an xml node. As far as doing this in perl or some other language I am not sure how much time it takes to generate the structures to manage a DTD, but in my experience it only took me 1 1/2 days to create all the code / classes I needed to read and manage 60 different elements not counting the number of attributes / enumaritions / lists that each element may have. To me this is pretty much a fair trade off when you include the readibality of the XML file versus managing a TXT file or some other type of container scheme. Dont get me wrong Im just as lazy as the next programmer and i am kinda pissed that it took 1 1/2 days away from me when I could have been surfing pron or/.
How difficult is it to implement very secure algorithms for the common developer with little experience in implementing security. As innovations in making more complex algorithms comes into play, what types of innovatoins are being done for implementing these algorithms? Could the lack of understanding how to implement these algorithms be in itself a reason for lack security in applications / processes?

To honor the moment I will post a favorite of mine. http://www.persiankitty.com/
That was in response to the developers of SoundForge using a warzed copy of windows.
Utterly fucking addicted: Will it increase my FPS?
