I find it incredibly sad that the organisation I looked up to as a UK child (NASA) are pretty much falling from grace due to funding issues, and a lack of imagination by the powers that be. Yes, the North American Space Agency inspired this child from the UK.
NASA, back in my day, were something to look up to, the pride of the WORLD - they were my Space Agency too even though they're from the USA, because they were doing stuff that no-one, not even the Soviets, could manage.... and now? Now that NASA have retired the Shuttles, it's as if the worlds space escapades have just been obliterated, at least to this uninformed mind. Noone else can even touch the escapades of NASA from 20, 30, 40 years ago. What's to celebrate now that that is gone?
NASA did a pretty good job back in the day of making people like me know about what they were doing, and while it might not have inspired every man on earth, it certainly did me and it's depressing that my kids won't grow up with the same sense of wonder as I did.
Shame.
Why dont people just use media="screen|handheld|print" along with optimised code to a) reduce the amount of code sent in the first place, and b) position it properly based on the client
I realise you have to download the same amount of HTML which might not be optimised for slower connections but seriously... isnt that the entire purpose of the media="" attribute ??
No - the idea (buzzwordedly entitled HIJAX) is to HIJACK (!) the original function of the A tag and perform a javascript option instead.
If javascript is disabled or unavailable, then the original link will fire.
They're not trying to get a value from the PopUp function...
Well, its actually better for the components inside the computer to be left up and running, instead of switching them on and off repeatedly - see, the problem is heat; stuff expands and contracts when on/off (hot/cold) and in time this will cause microscopic cracks in the circuitry, which will eventually turn into problems: i.e. the circuit will be broken and your CPU/GFX Card/Mboard/RAM or whatever will be screwed.
What I do is just have a idle time of 20 mins or so, so that the hard disks turn off to save them wearing out, but I leave the power on.
Hah.
Coming in at the weekend is fine and all, until you decide not to and your output slips...
Work your assigned hours, and no more - in other words, get a life (your job will seem easier too).
He's talking shit anyway... WIN then C has never been an official shortcut to Control Panel...
Pressing WIN then C will pick up the first item on the start menu, for instance if you had Calculator in your "Recent Applications" list, it would default to starting that.
Pressing Win, then ALT+C (since C is the 'hot' letter) for [C]ontrol Panel will start it.
Sometimes people need to forget that they're not always right, no matter how much of an expert they think they are.
IMHO, Windows is possibly the best OS for keyboard shortcuts, because it is the most consistent regardless of whichever application is running.
It's

Search google for "Shell replacement"
Just because you're ignorant of its existance, doesn't mean something isn't there.
wasnt the internet envisaged so that this specifically could NOT happen?
