A couple of years ago one of the projects in our city was remodeled. The cost? About $122,000.00 PER APARTMENT! That's slightly more than the median cost of homes in this area, and slightly more than my own house is worth.

Why couldn't they have taken that money and just bought houses for the residents? "Here's your free house; now be a responsible homeowner."

They didn't do that because they want the residents to feel beholden to the government. Plain and simple. Keep 'em on the dole and they'll keep voting for your side.

No, even as much as I hate Comcast, I can't go along with free internet for the poor. I can't afford to pay my bills and theirs, too. Not anymore.

It would be nice to use cash only, but you're still taking a risk carrying a large amount of cash. Law enforcement can steal it from you for no reason, and it's nearly impossible to get it back.

My house payment goes to a company in another state. There's no way I'm sending that much cash through the mail.

No, you pretty much have to have a bank account nowadays, whether it's safe from the government or not. Try keeping your balance as low as possible to minimize the risk.

The answer is to not let politicians stay in office longer than a couple of terms. Don't let them make staying in office a career. It's supposed to be public service, not a cash cow for greedy assholes. The main problem with big government is the unelected bureaucrats. They have power and answer to virtually nobody. Congress is supposed to oversee them, but usually gives them a pass.

I don't mind people leaving this existence whenever they please, but let me be the judge about my own "quality of life". I'm not at all comfortable letting other people tell me when I need to die. Are you?

I'm 61 and quite healthy. My mother is a healthy 79, sees a doctor once a year, and she drives nearly everywhere. My next door neighbor is an 83 year old widow who lives by herself and drives every day. Last year I worked with a Korean War veteran who could out-walk me (had lunch with him just last week).

Then there are children and young adults in wheelchairs who will never be able to care for themselves. Would you propose killing them because their "quality of life" isn't up to some arbitrary (read: government) standard?
