The "Feats of Strength" are much more telling. It looks like he made this character at 10-23-2008. He must of gotten a refer a friend because he jumped up to 80 within that month AND "technically" completed the game by the end of that year. He also must have mutipul accounts. See all the "collectors edition" pets? He wanted his main to have all those. The rest of this thing looks like he was just waiting for the world events to open and do some of the higher end raids. This guy was on the ball from day one. He was probably stuck at "Trial of the Champion" for a bit, but it looks like he got all his rep for EVERYTHING in the mean time. Once he got TotC, he hit the heroics in order.

I bet his guild was all in it too. No way you can burn though all those raids without good planing. Hell, look at some of the other Feats of Strength. ALOT of relm firsts on that first month he started. Humm.. His guild decided to start at that new server and completely own it.

Lets be frank though. I farm for achievements myself, but evey one of these things are easy to get. All of them just require patience and since most people need rep anyway, can be done with friends. This guy is not some anti-social nutjob who did this "on his own" A group of people decided to go in with him, support him to get this fair.

Besides, it might not be the original questions intention, but your right. You haven't really "completed" the game untill you do this with each character/class combination on both sides:)

Its easy enough. I spent a good 2 weeks trying to figure out how to create my own personal "registration" system. The old type where your given a license key and it says "Yea you bought it" Most of the time I have a root seed value thats hashed with some random data. Sure, a cracker can make a key gen once they figure out the hash method and seed value (not that hard), but it was resonantly simple to set up. Using public key cryptography you could make sure that a key gen is not possible, but at that point your authentication program is getting more complex than your $1 fart app

Doesn't stop a pirate from changing a MOV op-code in your executable to avoid the whole authentication anyway.

While I haven't create anything for the Apple store, I suspect that some key value is created when the app is sold and stuck somewhere in the config files. To authenticate a user's high score online, I would send that key, name and score and record the IP. Hell, maybe the first thing the game does, when it turns on, is send a high score of 0. Doing this you can tell exactly how many people has pirated the game, how many times people have played the game, and generally how long they play it for every time a score is sent in. Heck, you could even match the IP information regionally to see how your game has spread. Its good data to make your next game reach a wider audience.

But in the end, unless your going to buy a house or a car you don't really need up to the second data on your report.

Though, to be honest, I think we should be given access, atleast once a month rather than once a year. Its not like the data is that hard to display and it be far more useful to check for credit card fraud.

Have you even seen the more recent stuff too? Commercials becoming more entertaining. Lots of product placement are in the series now to the point that you can make drinking games out of it. There is plenty of evidence that the content providers are figuring out new ways to make money, however, the cable/networks won't make much money off of it themselves.

They said in the article how they have to look though traffic cameras and "tweak" the system. It might just be a gloried interface with a clock for all we know.

Still, makes me wonder what they are going to replace it with. Werther it be an Eclipse (witch your properly right) or a Nova, it lasted 20+ years without being replaced, and it doesn't look like they NEED that much power for it. What are they going to spend the money on? A shiny new Dell? I really hope they are making something that lasts instead of something that a consultant is brought in for.

I agree though, I think they are not going to be upgrading the hardware significantly. They are going to play this like the PS1 did with the introduction of the duel shock controller. Even then, there was a clear need for an analog controller. I don't know, however, if a motion controller will change attitudes in either system.

I do believe that both Sony and Microsoft are not going to enjoy the next console upgrades. There is always a big lul, lots of money lost on reintroduction, people WANT backward compatibility, etc. Lets also be fair too, most of the games right now are fairly mature so it be a hard sell to another $600 dollar console with 10 crappy games at launch. Also look at their architecture. Sony has a full cell chip (minus one SPE for cost) and Microsoft uses 3 cores with two SPE's each. There is no way you could emulate that kind of power without also including that chip and thats going to add to the cost. Also what are you going to upgrade it too? The cell chips are supercomputer class, what, PS3 is going to go duel/quad core and Microsoft is going to add a second processor? I doubt they are going to even change the chips out at this point. Even going to an Intel chip can't be done. Not with the significant differences between the two. Besides, it looks like ALL the consoles use PowerPC style processors so there must be a reason for it.

I think I saw the future with the N64 and didn't know it. That little memory expansion bay? I think the next box is going to have the same basic architecture but with upgradeable video graphics hardware. Most games I play now a days doesn't require more than my older PentiumD, but god damn it requires a GTX280.

The problem is that you CAN trust your local corp. Its not like they fold over night and most people in one are honest. The problem is that once you are IN a corp, there are so many meinal things to do. Camp a damn jump gate for 6 hours. Act as rat killer for the miners or sit there with a mouse and mine. Act as truck driver for said mine. Even using some of the automated towers still requires this annoying manual process.

But Eve is not the only one with the grind, as you know. Eve says you are just one of the cogs and buy insurance like everyone else. Like the real world you find a "job" You train in miner to be a miner, recon to be a zone watcher. All these "jobs" are menial and boring. But, I hate to say this is the problem with ALL PVP SYSTEMS. All games out there make you to be the "special one" The one who will win the war or save the universe. (I ran into this in the beta of Fallen Earth when I started. Your a speical "clone"? What are the other players?) Any job you take, out side of this, is just to progress to main story line.

War is all about waiting and dicking around and about 10 minutes of fighting. WoW had to introduce the battlegrounds to give players a way to play PvP at no cost. Even Wintergrasp limits you to every few hours to make sure enough people join up so its "fun" There were no wars in Ultima Online, just a few assassins once in a while. Even major battles in EVE lasts only about 30 minutes.

EVE designed a system where if you want to keep what you got, you have to protect it yourself. You spend all those grinding hours working for your corp and you want to protect your work. Your not fighting for the "fun" of it. Your not fighting because "your the one". Your fighting because you did a time sink of 6 months into this corp and you don't want a bunch of god damn pirates taking out your control tower out when eveyones off to dinner (again). In EVE, you fight to protect what you got. Its quite possible the most raw political simulators created in the mmorg world.

I just wish there WAS a way to reach out and throttle the players who say "fuck it" and quit though. Especially the ones with the higher rights in corps:P
