This sounds like every bank.
I've been with US Bank, Columbia River Bank (probably not national), Wells Fargo, First Independent, Riverview, and First Interstate....they all suck and worry more about their money than their customers...
I think everyone should check out the $95,000 check story. It's hilarious and a great read. It talks about a guy who finally had the chance to stick it to the bank. Did I mention it's hilarious?
Give it a few more minutes. Some retard here will post something along the lines of "Why do you think prison rape is funny?"...you know--because we all heard you laughing as you typed number 9 in...
You used to have to worry about someone 'accidentally' bumping into you on the subway...and then your wallet is gone.
Now someone would 'accidentally' bump into you on the subway and they would have the blueprints for NORAD or the codes for the nuclear football. Even worse, you could find your personal porn collection replaced with pictures of the goatse guy.
Yeah--on the whole 'good bad' scale, that would be 'bad'.
We're a bunch of GEEKS. Why hasn't anyone invented some sort of device that could keep power going to a computer during a power outage. Maybe some sort of...battery backup? We could even give it a cool name like "Uninteruptable Power Supply"--or even a cool acronym like UPS.
We could even attatch circuitry to this 'UPS' that could send a signal to the computer when the power goes out or the battery runs low. If we work hard, we could even get this circuitry to give us an estimated time before the battery is totally dead. We could call this new technology 'smart signaling'.
Wow--this would totally enable some cool features on the computer side. You could send an email, or even a page to the responsible server admin. You could even... ...wait for it...
SHUTDOWN THE F*CKING DATABASE IN A SAFE MANNER!
Ok--I understand the deal with LiveJournal and the EPO device--but why should a tripped circuit breaker cause a hard shutdown of a server? Seriously. Battery Backup people!
Even my home computer does that. Power goes out, five minutes later the box begins shutting down...
Actually, plan for ten years down the road when we have CAT-10. Just string a bunch of bundles of random wire through the walls. String tons of different guages, twists, and shielding. Hopefully when CAT-10 is defined you'll have enough of the correct strand in there...
It means someone will finally drag decent internet services out here. Currently I have to connect at 42k because the phone lines are shitty, and the providers suck. If you are in one of the 'bigger' cities you can get 512k DSL for something on the order of $45/mo. It really sucks hearing my friend say he has 6MB down/3MB up for the same price in Portland...
Did I just step into that alternate universe thingy where Spock has a goatee, they stick people in the 'pain' booth, and windows is more secure than linux?
Apply that to current computer technology. What if someone finds a way to gain admin access on a Windows XP box without having the admin passw...oh...sorry. I forgot what software company I was talking about for a second...
Besides, it IS possible even today to change the pattern of blood vessels on the retina using lasers - this is done all the time to treat diabetic retinopathy.
Good point, but anyone who wants to go through all that trouble is welcome to my slashdot account.;)
Another way to look at it: "They won their knighthoods for defending their country."
I am not a soldier, but I'm sure I would absolutely hate killing people in a time of war. But I would do it to see my wife safe.
All the beatles did was get on stage and act like a bunch of Monkeys...
After doing a quick grep of the page for the word 'congress' and finding no results, I thought I'd karma whore:
"But what is that in Libraries of Congress?"
Oh great--then we'd have to hear: "I just flew around the world...and boy are my arms tired."
This sounds like every bank.

Trojan MOOOOOON! *sound of horse neying*
What makes you think that I think prison rape is funny? Care to point out anywhere in any of my previous posts that I have said prison rape is funny?
IT'S NOT A TUMAH!
9. Your ass now belongs to Bubba.
Give it a few more minutes. Some retard here will post something along the lines of "Why do you think prison rape is funny?"...you know--because we all heard you laughing as you typed number 9 in...
I guess we should all observe about a minute of silence then...
Troll? That's f*cking funny.
...mods on crack.
True. Although I don't have one for my home UPS, many of the larger server/datacenter UPS' have the ability to hook into an EPO.
It just seems stupid to have power problems now-a-days with computers.

Yep. The boss level is really hard.
I know! My submissions never get accepted!
Wrong. We only have one set of clothes and we're wearing them.
My poor brother in geekdom--you must not know about thinkgeek.com. They have *TONS* of cloths for you to wear.
Oh--and trade shows.
After you're done installing the cable ducts in your house, seal them up with some sort of wall plate and pressurize it with Halon. :)

Hey--this is big news out here in the Gorge.

Hmm...largest AD implementation in the world...?
So you work for Microsoft?
It's ok if you don't want to admit it. This is slashdot after all--and some people take it very seriously.
Why do do you think commenting on it is necessary?
Windows more secure than...
...wait a minute.
Did I just step into that alternate universe thingy where Spock has a goatee, they stick people in the 'pain' booth, and windows is more secure than linux?
When will it be "Parents irresponsible with how they raised their child leads to deaths"?
When will it be "I am responsible for the deaths of the people I pointed a gun at and pulled the trigger?"
Time to take responsibility for our own actions and quit blaiming everyone else.
Damnit! Where do I get a low number like that?!?
