    There are secession movements in Texas and Vermont, which intend to do just that.

    Good luck forcing all the Muslims and Catholics in third-world countries to use those. They don't read Slashdot. If you want to slow down population growth, tell your leaders to stop encouraging developing countries to do exactly the opposite.

    Well, they still exist-- and without a government bailout. I guess the biggest imaging company in the USA isn't considered "too big to fail," but financial institutions that just push money around and don't create anything are.

    I wouldn't garner wisdom from the same guy who guaranteed unemployment wouldn't exceed 8% (now over 10%) and that GM and Chrysler would be saved from bankruptcy (now sorta-bankrupt, except instead of a legal bankruptcy they were given away to the unions) if we JUST PASSED THE STIMULUS BILL RIGHT AWAY!

    We are still haunted by the relic of a keyboard and mouse requiring dedicated ports, and even some modern machines cannot read a keyboard from any USB port.

    Utter rubbish. Name one PC or Mac sold in the last ten years that can't use a USB keyboard.

    Not quite. The design isn't meant to slow the typist, but to keep the most commonly used letters spaced out on the far ends of the keyboard so that the hammers were less likely to strike each other on the way. The common layout at the time was alphabetical, which was certainly no faster to use.

    Because then the progressives would have to admit that the wars on poverty and crime are quagmires and unwinnable. So is the war on drugs, and despite the fact that some relatively conservative administrations supported it in the name of politics, it's unconstitutional and doomed to failure.

    I agree. FDR preached "freedom from fear and freedom from want". Because the people chose these over the Constitution, they got the National Recovery Act, Civilian Conservation Corps, 90% tax rates on income over $250,000, concentration camps for Japanese citizens, and general suspension of their property and free speech rights during WWII.

    I didn't see anything in there about slavery, but to answer your question, slavery was never about racism until during and after the black slavery period of North America. Slavery does not necessarily follow racism, or vice versa.

    I disagree. A fast horse on good terrain could make 100 miles per day. A car is just like a somewhat faster horse.

    If by somewhat you mean, "about five times faster". We have to take our modern highways into account when we talk about the speed of the auto, but on a normal trip a car essentially doesn't get fatigued and only needs to stop when it needs gas or its driver is fatigued. 500 miles in a day is child's play, and by switching drivers you could go on for days with minimal stops. Sorry for pointing out the obvious.

    Not true. AT&T was forced to transfer all ownership of interior wiring with the breakup. That's why you have to pay for inside service, past the demarcation point (usually the NID on the outside wall of a residence).

    As a side note, the two incomplete copies of Thomas (one Coptic, one Greek I believe) that we have not only conflict, but both date very late as do the believed date of their sources, which is estimated to be in the second century. This is later than all of Paul's writings, Hebrews, the synoptic Gospels, and perhaps even John.
