    I should mention as additional support that Reagan cut taxes and increased spending during the early 80s recession and this caused unemployment to drop from 10% to 5%. This is the "Reaganomics" that most people criticize. It works as long as you remember to cut spending after the recession ends (which is the part where he didn't do as well).

    The BIOS RAID 1 implementations I've seen simply keep a synchronized copy of one disk on a second disk. They do not use a special format on the disk, so if your controller fails you can just take one of the disks to another PC and boot it up.

    The habitats of various endangered species impede our ability to expand, but we protect them at our own inconvenience. Is it okay for us to tinker with the climate in order to protect a relatively small number of people? What if using our flawed models causes us to be plunged into an ice age?

    - The meaning in a life well-lived (Picard's mind implanted with the memories of a man who lived on a long-dead planet)
    - The morality of war ("Best of Both Worlds")
    - The loss of self (the Borg in general)
    - The Prime Directive invoked about 80 times

    Your sign shows that you might have a clue, so I'll say that a big government requires greater funding, which requires greater revenue, which requires higher taxes. This, in turn, requires greater enforcement to collect the taxes. In addition, this big government actually needs something to do, and beyond the basic infrastructure, national defense, and law enforcement, this means social programs. Once social programs are enacted, people begin to elect those who they believe will give them a bigger handout.

    The hp48 group has started seeing some spam lately. But the spammers haven't figured out in which order to place their punctuation yet.

    Email? Luxury! In my day, we supported time-sharing systems, so if we had a question we had to hand-punch it into cards and send the deck via Pony Express! Had to be concise too, because you didn't want too many run-on sentences causing a buffer overflow! Some newbie once posted sample code with too many GOTOs on our list and suffocated twenty patients when their admin loaded the deck on his hospital's System/36!
