* The company has a very bad reputation of making ludicrous claims and misrepresenting stats
* It's made by Indian manufacturer Tata motors, not known for quality I would like to disagree on these two points. Tata Motors is one of the biggest car manufacturers in India and part of the Tata group known for quality in all its product. It is one of the most trusted brand names in India. I doubt they will make false claims. They were in the news recently for making the cheapest car the $2500 Tata Nano
the administration has to be there. Otherwise who will be responsible for finances, operations etc. The scientists are least bothered to do all of that. There has be a body to administer such a huge organization
What happens if I happen to access a US server? Will my ISP be charged extra for the services offered by the website?
If yes I think all US centric websites are screwed. The content will just move to international waters like most US MNC's who are incorporated in tax free zones.
The internet does not revolve around the US you know.
Let me be one of the first to congratulate you Rob! You guys have a great team and built up a great website. Hopefully the dupes, spelling mistakes wont go up as you get older! Hey I'm allowed to dream am I not:p
Duh! That is why they have multiple redundant servers. When one server goes down the email is routed to another server. Personally I have never encountered a situtation where an email sent to my yahoo account did not reach me. Yahoo Groups is a different story. Emails used to disappear frequently when they merged with eGroups. Things have stabilized now, but sometimes emails sent to a group do not reach all the participants and it is not a receiver issue but a routing issue on yahoo groups servers.
Overall the uptime should be close to 100%. Nobody cares what is happening behind the scenes, whether one server has 100% or 7%.
One of the questions in the FAQ says that it supports MP3, wav etc. Then it goes on to say iPod and iTunes. I'm confused. MP3's and wav files can be played on my iPod, so what's the big fuss?
Microsoft knows that the market in the developing countries in Asia is not in the home segment but in the corporate and government segment.
The home segment will continue to pirate software as there is little enforcement of law, if they exist, and primarily because it is so much cheaper to buy pirated copies. For example here in India the cost of a pirated copy of windows is 1/10th of the cost of a legit copy. Nobody cares about support anyways.
The government offices are the next target. In Asia and specially in countries like communist China the biggest employer is the government. So you can easily guess that more people=more desktops=more sales. But Microsoft is frustrated that it cannot use it's traditional tactics of getting people to resist change by not switching from windows as in most cases people are starting out from scratch and if they latch on to Linux as a desktop OS they will resist changing from that as that is what they have been used to. An example is how the Chinese goverment is developing it's own version of Linux to counter dependence on Microsoft.
..atleast in the case of India. I'm from India and can confidently say that on an average the hourly rate is $0.50-$0.60(Around Rs 20) without government subsidy.
The current rate of $1.35(Around Rs 60) is wrong. I'm not sure how this data was compiled.

I always wondered why Balmer and Gates made group decisions in most cases. Now I know why! :p
Here is the link to the clip The photos are nothing great.
Does anyone even use an online calendar? Why not use the one on your phone, PDA, laptop? What benefit does one get from using an online one?
I guess anyone can easily upload copyrighted MP3's? Does that mean Google is a RIAA target now?
And Balmer members will throw their wi-fi equipment at each other and threaten to fucking kill the linus members.
..I have already judged this article twice!
..the urge to crash?
The correct name is Manmohan Singh who was the finance minister at the time when reforms were kicked off and is currently the prime minister of India.
Microsoft seems to be blindly copying whatever is coming out of Google these days.
Don't trust the parent poster's advise. The URL contains a referral link. Possible conflict of interest.

Tell that to cellphone manufactures and people who watch videos on their cellphones

It will turn out to be an interesting fight.
did i miss something ?
Yeah! Does it run Linux?

..that the hackers will start targetting Mozilla/FireFox now as it might become the dominant browser out there.
They will always target the browser having the most user base as the probablity of exploit becoming successfull increases.
Why invest and not just take the source and fork Mozilla for use on their cellphones? I thought this was perfectly legit in the open-source world.
Unless of course the are donatin to the Mozilla foundation for helping develop such an excellent browswer package.
..in case of slashdotting. Mirror
