  1. The States should counter-sue demanding folks like AT&T be forced to break up into smaller companies.

They posses an unfair advantage when they are delivering both content and control the pipes that supply it at the same time. It's a classic conflict of interest.

Watch how fast the big Telcos go quiet about all this " sue everyone " nonsense if their Monopoly status gets threatened.

  2. Who watches anything based on Cannes Reviews ? on Netflix Banned From Competing At Cannes Film Festival Due To Lack of Theatrical Releases (theverge.com) · · Score: 1

Do you ? Do you even know anyone who does ? Do they ?

The number of awards $show has been nominated for, how many A list actors are in it or the fact it was featured in some obscure film festival that few outside of the entertainment business even know about has zero impact on my decision to watch material X vs material Y.

IMO, this is the industry doing everything it possibly can to discredit the newcomer in a last ditch effort before the inevitable happens.

Dear Industry: You either evolve with the times, or you go extinct. Simple as that really.

People all over the spectrum skip the EULA because they're usually:

    1) Written in legalese
    2) 967 pages long
    3) In size 8 font
    4) Changes almost monthly

    AND

Exactly three sentences worth of information that are of any importance are buried so damn deep in the typical EULA, that it's akin to finding a needle in a haystack.

IMO, if they want it to be binding, they need to remove the important stuff from the jungle of bullshit they intentionally hide it in and let people know exactly what it is they're getting themselves into. The average person should not require a Law Degree just to read and fully understand a damn EULA.

  4. There is no stopping it. Either side.

LE is going to keep pushing for it until they get it, Team FuckYou is going to keep writing workarounds to thwart it and the folks you want to catch with your new backdoor are simply going to cease using the compromised products altogether and find something else.

Kind of makes me wonder the real reasons for banning Huawei phones from the US markets. National Security or the fact they won't play ball with the DOJ. . .

This really should be common sense by now.

  6. The bottom line is, two million of your users decided your services are only tolerable if they didn't have to deal with the bullshit ( ads ) that come with it.

Perhaps you should use that as a learning experience and rework your service into something that folks won't feel the need to take such measures.

    Just a thought.

  7. China can even the playing field by dropping their own tariffs. If not, well. . . too fucking bad. They have the means to fix this, they just elect not to.

Seriously, why the hell would any country tolerate doing business with China when their polices are blatantly designed to promote Chinese Companies over foreign ones ? As long as China continues this behavior, I have zero issues with cutting them off from the markets they are so obviously screwing over.

Once sales of their top money makers cease, it won't take long for them to realize how dependent their economy is on getting the rest of the world to buy their crap. No sales = no money = economy going to hell in a hurry.

So, to any country ( not just China ) that plays these games, I say bring it on.

Companies don't want their employees discussing salary / wages with other employees because it tends to generate a sh*t ton of hostility.

Once this information becomes public knowledge, it can shine a negative light on the business as to why they are paying X $$$$ to do a job while paying Y only $$ to do the same work assuming both are of similar competence in their roles. If no one ever asks, they get to save money by paying you less
    than you're worth :|

Besides, since the company isn't going to be forthcoming if you ask them what Bob makes in an effort to determine if your pay level is a " fair " one, you may as well ask Bob directly. He'll probably be interested in it for the very same reasons.

  12. I don't care if a Company watches their employees WHILE AT WORK, as that is within their right to do so while an employee is utilizing corporate assets and / or is accessing corporate networks. This isn't new as companies have been doing this for a long time.

It is NOT ok for any company to spy on their employees outside of company time and they should be prosecuted heavily for it.

Protip: Leave your company provided laptop and phone at the office lest you consent to such monitoring. If you telecommute, take whatever precautions you think are necessary as preventative measures.

amazing amounts of budget money are quickly found to appease the OSHA inspector overlords.

This comes with a risk, however.

The company may decide it's cheaper to make you drive 100+ miles a day to another location vs getting
the building you work in up to spec. We also know that retaliation is illegal, but once you get OSHA involved,
the company is likely going to look for ANY reason they can to fire you. So, understand the risks before
    you do anything.

Still, it's your health, so don't give the company the benefit of the doubt if you've complained in the past and

But, this probably isn't about ' criminal ' phones is it ? They want the ability to get into any phone on demand. Having another firm do it for you creates all that nasty paperwork that can come back to haunt you later.
