"I can quickly look at my watch to see if I need to leave for my next appointment without having to take my phone out of my pocket or scout around for a clock and hope that it has the correct time."
If I am in a conversation with someone and they check their watch for appointments i the middle of our conversation, then I may just tell you to piss off. Also, why are you not able to know when you have an appointment before you step into my meeting? Is your time so much more valuable than mine that you cannot be bothered to check your fucking calendar before you except a meeting?
Those days are over, thanks to Google. Maybe you have heard of Google's book scanning program? They can rent these machines which take screen shots with the monitor upside down very quickly. The real problem is that the copy of Adobe acrobat pro needed to perform the OCR is so expensive there, the cost does not come down.
Seriously. There are organized trips now to the US. Not just for TVs and games and stuff like that. People will fly to US and buy their entire kitchen set. (Most can work both 110v and 220v now). Even after paying the shipping container and the VAT, it is still significantly cheaper than buying in Australia.
Seriously, what the hell are you talking about? Have you ever been to Australia? It is not "consumer friendly" at all. Granted it is not as hard core as the "stab your neighbor in the face and take his money" capitalism in the US, but it is close. Corporations have massive power over consumers in Australia. Most Australians would attribute this to American corporate and government manipulation. Though I say, BS. It is ones own job to keep his house in order.
It does. Here in Germany it is a major pain in the ass with copyrights and such. Actually, most modern games cannot be sold in Germany without removing the blood and stuff. Germany always needs special versions. But, amazingly, it doesn't cost more than I would pay any other place in the EU. Then again, Germans, being rather frugal folks would just not buy it.
Really though, what do they mean? I did not see where they define what they consider renewable. After all, coal and oil are also renewable, given enough time.
I have to wonder if Apple was seriously ever even working on an "iWatch" before the 24hr news cycle pundits started the hype. Once that happened, no one wanted to let Apple get the upper hand and so started making their own watch, to which Apple said, hey, we need an iWatch too!
I just cannot imagine this being successful. You would look like the biggest douche-bag in the world walking around with an iWatch. Fan boys of course will deny it and think about how cool they are, but nope...you really will be a D-Bag.
Still, there are loads of people that will buy it just because they want to be seen having an Apple product, no matter moronic it is. So, maybe it will take off.
Personally, I like a quality watch. Solid construction and precision movements with rhodium-plated finish. I like my watch to tell me the time and possibly the date. Mostly, it should be lovely. A smart watch is a hunk of plastic and metal crap on your wrist that has about as much precision construction as 1970's communist block apartment building.
And by "these services", I mean cloud services in general. I have several of these accounts. All of which were something like, get a free 50GB account when you buy this gadget. Even with 100"s of GBs of cloud space available to me, I find I don"t use any of it. Sure, I will upload some large files from time to time if I know I want to transfer them to another PC at work for example. I never put anything on these services that I cannot afford to lose. I cannot say exactly the main reason, but basically, 1. I want direct control over my data 2. The US government has said, if it is in the cloud, you do not own it, and they can look all they want. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-57552225-38/senate-bill-rewrite-lets-feds-read-your-e-mail-without-warrants/ 3. Who else is looking? Are they selling the jist of the information to target markers? 4. When they go out of business, what happens to my data? 5. If I upload all my music, can I expect a visit from the RIAA to examine receipts of purchase? 6. What if my connection drops or is really really slow?
In my point of view, data services are oversold. My Internet provider, like many others has way over sold its capacity. As such, most providers are doing what ever they can to discourage using the product they sell. Whether it be caps or increased pricing for a reasonable DL/UP speed. This goes double for mobile data services. With this trend become more and more common, in my eyes, these cloud services which require massive amounts of data transfer, become less and less viable.
Well, you could always stand up and demand your leaders repeal this nonsense. Is that not one of the stipulations of the political system in the US, that one must participate? I see a LOT of folks complaining on/., but I never hear about anyone actually DO anything. And no, a strongly worded facebook post is not doing something. Say what you want about the French, but they have it right. Their leaders are scared shitless of the population. That is how it must be. When the leaders do the things the US politicians do each day, France burns. So, I would say, If you don't like it, "man up" and do something.
That is bad luck for you. I had an xbox 360 for a while, and I actually never had a single issue with it. I did sell it after a while though to go back to PC gaming. Seeing as that you have had 5 replacements, it seem the customer service is doing well. Also, are you sure you are doing it right if you broke 5 boxes?;)
I would assume that the "share button" is sony's attempt to put a social media component into their platform. Maybe one of of you younger guys can explain the draw, because I surely do not get it. Why do so many games try to push a social media component. Like DIRT3 for example. I it constantly asking me to share a video on youtube. Why?? Why would anyone want to watch a video of me playing a game like it is some kind of real life event? I sure as heck have no desire to watch other folks play a game.
Sure, I love to play MMORPG's and the like, but for the love of god, stop trying to get me to post that shit on facebook or youtube. How about spend time creating a compelling gaming experience rather than an extension of your marketing machine.
I have to say that i did buy Win8 Pro since it was so cheap and I didnt want to continue using a questionably legit copy of Win7. Do I love it? No. But, I dont hate it either. Actually, for my windows is NOT the issue. I WANT to buy by wife a new ultrabook, but damned if I cant find one that is either A. has a ridiculously low resolution or B. has 4GB of RAM soldered to the Fing main board! Who that F wants that??? I was doing to buy the Yoga 13 with windows 8. Good resolution, removable RAM and SSD, BUT sold out of months ahead. The there is the Dell XPS 12, Nope, Cant add RAM, not SDcard slot either. Basically, the laptops out there right now are complete crap. Yeah sure, I could buy a massive 17 incher and get a good screen, but my wife has zero interest in something big. People more and more want something thin, fast and light. Microsoft is correct. It IS the OEMs fault for producing complete and utter shit which people dont want to buy. Face it, most folks care what it looks like, not which OS it has.
In the pas that was true of Bluetooth. However, with the release of Bluetooth low energy this is resolved. In addition there will be things like hearing aid profiles. Until the last year, it would have been very impracticable to use Bluetooth in a hearing aid. Especially given that folks who wear aids want them to be as small as possible.
I am not totally sure why these handset hacks are always such big news. What are the chances that this can happen to a normal person? One, you would need to have NFC enabled, which people may do, but at least I never do by default. Two, you need physical access to the handset. Has it not been the case for a very long time that if you lose your handset that someone can use it, NFC or no NFC? Oh, and they need to trigger the exploit 185 times before it worked. I think we are still reasonably safe.
Was there not some kind of law already about the Governments ability to set the "market" price for goods and services? Something about free market or other.
The Constitution was ratified in 1787. The amendments to the constitution came some years later once they realized they forgot a bunch of shit like basic human rights. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Constitution
Here in Germany, we just went ahead and included the basic human rights from the beginning.
And of course restarting the baseband. Airplane mode will also deregister the terminal from the base station and then make a location update, but will not restart the base band.
After all, a digital circuit required an oscillator to work. That oscillator when not properly grounded will couple to other signal paths. Basically, anything which generates a frequency can couple onto another circuit. Even if the primary frequency is not interesting to the components of that circuit, the harmonics could well be.
Very good point regarding the amplification stage. Audio amplification is really no different than RF amplification, just a much lower frequency. Typically, one would use a band pass filter or the like to order to keep unwanted signals out of the amplifier. Of course this doesn't help when you have harmonics of other signals which happen to be in this band. Which is why things like proper grounding and shielding are so important.
It is precisely because of that right wing knee-jerk "government is bad, business is good" reaction that the US doesn't have an up to date space programme.
Private companies may be able to get a few rich tourists into space, that's just a sideshow.
What the hell are you on about? How is what I said a knee jerk reaction? Did you even read my post. I start the post by saying how depressing it is that NASA is in such a poor state. That seems to indicate that I LIKE NASA and want them to go into space.
And, I said they have made more PROGRESS than NASA had in 15 years. I did NOT say that they were ahead of NASA. There is a difference. Many of these private firms were starting from scratch. Well, ok with a lot of knowledge gotten from NASA.
That is more or less the first thought that I had. "What the heck does NASA need with a spacesuit?" They are not even able to a man into space anymore.
I have to say, growing up, I never imagined that there would be a day when the USA was no longer able to go into space. That we must buy passage from my childhoods boogieman. I always thought that surely, by the time I am a grown man, the average person would be able to go into space.
On the other hand, maybe it is better that NASA is out of the picture. It does seem that the few private companies are making more progress in 5 years than NASA can in 15.
"Unless, of course, there's a breakthrough in fusion."
In fact, I think fusion is the reason. Even oil companies are selling off oil fields and renting the mineral rights.

Funny enough, they did do just that a couple years ago. Doesn't seem like anything came from it.
