I guess if I were to get overnight wealthy, it would have to be the lottery, Powerball or something.
What would I do?
Well, I'd leave work so fast the door wouldn't come within a mile of my ass hitting it on the way out. While I *might* stay long enough to be a nice guy, maybe give the passwords to someone, I'm outta there.
People that say they'd keep working, not me. I don't understand that, I have PLENTY of things I like to do that can keep my occupied for the rest of my life.
I"d likely but a nicer house here in New Orleans...one in maybe Denver, CO to go when too hot here, and maybe one in Key West or somewhere near a beach when I felt in that mood.
Married? Hell no....why get married when you can now be free to chase pussy 24/7...or if nothing else, do the sugardaddy.com thing...cute, good looking girls, and you get to upgrade models at will without having to risk losing half your shit you own.
But more seriously, the world is your oyster if you are that rich. Travel, see things..hell, you can see and do a lot without ever leaving the US.
I have plenty of friends around the US, so, I don't really need more. I'd take care of them and their families (the ones that are married)...and well, just have fun.
I have never understood the lottery winners who'd just keep working. I've got a ton of stuff I'd rather be doing at any point in the day.
Heck, on some long times in between contracts, one time was 7mos...I'd wake up about 8-9am, go walk the dog...maybe jump on my motorcycle and hit the gym daily for 1-2 hours. Home for lunch, then maybe back on the motorcycle (summer/early fall) and go check out a new art museum or something here in NOLA...and maybe catch a fest or meet friends of mine getting off work at a bar for a few about 4pm....come home...lather, rinse, repeat.
Personally I never got tired of that easy life..and hey, if I was rich and got bored, I could always travel somewhere and vacation from that!!!
Yep, I'm sorry, I dunno how someone could be rich and miserable.
If it is so bad, gimme the money and let me take a swing at that type of life. I assure you, I'll have no problems.
So..here we go with Obama and the PC folks, basically needing to re-write history again. No more old symbols, if it is something a white guy did, gotta take that down, etc.
Geez...why are we needing to tear down everything old or rename it in the name of political correctness or whatever. Let things be and build from there, eh?
I personally LIKE driving my vehicles....the autonomy and freedom it gives me....and well, I've never in my (getting longer) life owned a car with more than two functional seats, always sports/performance cars.
Every day when I sit in it, fire up the engine and crank up the stereo...even a trip down the street to the grocery store is an adventure and a pleasure.
I feel sorry for folks who think a car is nothing but a means to get from point A to point B.
Life is short...it should be enjoyed.
And personally, I like it when I'm getting from point A to point B in a fast manner (of course, given that driving conditions at that time/place are safe enough to do so).
Frankly, it would have been a WASTE of effort for the FBI to try to surveil phones.
Just after Katrina hit and for at least a month or more afterwards, pretty much you could NOT do voice calls if you had a 504 area code.
It was shortly after this hit that I actually discovered texting which I'd not done much of before.
I found that people I could not call....I could text and at least get info to them on how to call me at a land line where I was staying (out of state) till things got normal again.
But no, for a long time, you could not call anyone with a 504 area code cell phone.
I think the most valid explanation anyone could come up with is...the Hillary just wanted to be able to NOT have to share or have her email transactions become part of the public record, etc.
Of course, that is now blowing up in her face...but seriously, there aren't many other valid reasons to just NOT use the govt supplied and managed email servers.
Setting up your own email server isn't rocket science....but why bother when you have all the security questions taken off your shoulders and allowing the govt security types to set up and run your email for you? Unless you fear you will have something to hide....
I think this should pretty much eliminate Jeb from consideration as US President.
He seemed ok on some other things, a bit more moderate on many issues, but this...geez, taking sides against the citizens' rights to privacy, that's a deal killer instantly.
A bill is not a contract. A bill is the result of a contract. It's clear that there is an implied contract between restaurants and their patrons, hence why they can drop a bill in your lap at the end of the meal even though they may not post prices in their menus or place notices around the establishment that you'll need to pay for your food once the meal is done. But suggesting that the implied contract extends into work-for-hire concepts seems a bit far-fetched to me.
I think it *is* a work for hire. They fix the food...and serve it to you, then you are free to use it as you please...to eat it, to throw it on the floor, you can encase it in carbonite and hang it on the wall as a trophy.
I mean, I can't believe anyone would begin to think that they are licensing the food to you, and that you are not free to reproduce it at will in your own kitchen, or even make it yourself for sale. Hell, if you wanted, you could resell the original dish.
If it were otherwise, THEN I'd think there would have to be a more restrictive contract in place upon ordering.
Actually, my first thought was...Isn't this more a "work for hire"?
I mean, you order the dish for your consumption (physically)...the copyright (if there is any which there should NOT be)...should be yours since it is a work for hire and you OWN it when you get served.
The difference is on your MBP you probably never close an app unless it's a one-off that you don't use frequently. I know I have several dozen open apps right now across 15 virtual screens and servo between them over an 8 hour day as I become blocked on one task and switch to another. Why shut them down only to spend 10 minutes relaunching? On linux or OS X, with unlimited desktops, why bother?
Actually...no.
I find when I'm doing render jobs or even working in AE, to get performance I often have to shut everything else down...even stopping email and my browser..those seem to suck up a lot of resources.
No, even with what I have...on anything moderately stressful in video or photoshop, I have to pretty much ONLY have that one app running to get any use out of it at all.
I don't know much about games...but on my late 2011 MBP with 16GB ram, core i7 CPU...I can quickly drag it into the mud and bog it down 100% with some renders with After Effects CS6, or even FCPX with many laters, or PS CS6 if I have more than a couple layers with smart objects.
I really wish I had about 64GB ram or more...am planning on going for a desktop this next time around of some type so that I can load it up more.
So you don't think there should be any requirements at all on commercial passenger traffic? That would probably drive Uber out of business as proliferation of gypsy cabs easily could dump prices lower than they can.
Hey, I don't think any of us would argue against MORE competition in this market!!
I think that the gypsy cab thing, however, might not be the super competitor that Uber is, in that they don't have the great app that makes Uber so easy to use.
I just tried Uber for the first time this past week and I was blow away. The cars were all so nice, the drivers so polite and fun to talk with, and the PRICE was right. I also never had to wait more than 5 minutes to get a ride.
The Uber experience is SO much better than the cab experience in New Orleans, and this is a cab oriented city.
The price is easily half of what a cab is...and I too would be much less likely to drive myself when out drinking and have to get home....and just take and Uber that is really very cheap. Let's see...a $30+ cab ride across town or a $16 cab ride across town. Double those for coming back (and you don't have to tip with Uber on top of the fare)...then it becomes economical and a great incentive to leave my car at home. And this is NOLA...face it, EVERY activity here involves drinking before you try to make your way home, so this is a good option.
There should be some dignity to the office and dignity is something Trump completely lacks.
OH, I think that boat has long sailed already with the current president appearing with YouTube "stars" that bathe and eat in bathtubs full of cereal and milk.
If we went by pure economics, people in wheelchairs would have to pay big tolls at ramps to enter buildings.
Not the same at all. We're talking purely about offsetting the cost of fuel, and maintaining a safe weight for flights which tend to depend on both those factors to keep them from falling out of the air prematurely.
Ok, my basic question is...What the hell is an immobilizer chip? Is this something in all cars I didn't know about? Does this somehow let external parties (i.e. police) be able to just shut your car off/down with you in it?
If so...when did they start putting these in cars?!?!
Have you ever noticed that when people propose something purely to make someone else's life worse, they then immediately start to make excuses ("so, it isn't discriminating" = "I'm not a racist, but") thus indicating they're fully aware of the malicious bullshit nature of their own message, and knew it would be obvious to everyone else too, but chose to post it anyway?
No, quite the opposite in fact.
These days people are getting so fucking OVERLY Politically Correct, and scared of hurting anyone's feelings potentially, that if you make most any statement on something that would be based somehow on a per person basis, no matter how factual it is and for sound reasons....a pile of people will immediately jump up and shout racism, fat shaming, sexism......it is getting so bad today, that you can't have an intelligent conversation on hardly anything without someone shouting it is some sort of discrimination.
This is just plain stupid. People ARE all different. All shapes and sizes...and we are all NOT created with equal dynamics, physical or mental qualities And the minute you observe or base some real thing in the world on differences....folks will jump up and down and claim it is for nefarious reasons, and you are a bad person for even suggesting there are differences, much less that they might possibly need to be addressed differently.
Common sense has gone straight out the fucking window. I hate to say it, but I'm almost wishing for a backlash, have the pendulum swing back and this time maybe land in more of a reasonable middle, because today it seems, folks are so afraid of saying anything that may potentially offend even the smallest niche in society...that nothing much worthwhile gets said anymore.
You can't point out that the emperor has no clothes on, because you might discriminate and kill the self esteem of all emperors in the world!!
Because it would be an enormous headache. I don't know if you've flown recently, but most people don't go to the ticket counter to buy their tickets anymore.
It should actually be easy. Have a scale you step on as you get go past the guy that checks your ticket before you board...., do it then as they scan your ticket so they know it is you, and then the scale registers your weight, and just adds the charge to your credit card they had on record when you bought the ticket online.
It just adds it on. So, the system would basically be something like:
1. Initial purchase of ticket is a fixed basic amount for everyone.
2. When you are about to board, scan ticket, you hit scale and if you exceed x amount (or you could do it for everyone) it adds the fuel charge based on your weight. This could also catch costs for heavy carry on bags too.
A problem could be security, occupied seats need to be associated with a name and passport.
Why would the majority of people need a passport just to fly domestically....?
I don't have a passport, never has hindered my flying. Just seems strange you'd use that as the first off the cuff example, rather than just the usual flash of your drivers license (since most folks I've ever known don't have a passport).
Although most instances of obesity is inability to control one's shoveling food into one's mouth (like my fatty of an ex) there are instances where obesity is caused by hormonal or glandular (thyroid, pituitary, adrenal) problems, so that isn't fair. What IS fair is charging someone for two seats if they're oozing into the next seat.
I believe it is STILL FAIR to those with glandular conditions (I have to think this category is by far a small one and an exception to the rule)...in that this is based solely on how much it costs the airline in fuel, etc to carry that person. We're talking weight here, nothing else. For whatever reason the weight disparity...a smaller, lightweight person is cheaper to carry than a heavy one, just like a box of Kleenex is cheaper to transport than a gun safe.
Actually....why NOT start basis fares on weight? It would maybe encourage people TO actually try to live and eat healthier. A heavier person does require more fuel, etc....so, it isn't a discriminating factor based on a person's looks, but upon a cold hard cash factor in that it is more $$ to fly that person than someone that weighs less. I know the money is a drop in the bucket on one flight, but it adds up significantly over the airlines' fleets.
I'm not a particularly big fan of Obama, but he is definitely not the biggest user of executive orders
Well, SORT of true. He's been abusing Presidential Memorandums...which carry basically the same weight, but allow him to say "I'm not using as many EO's as the previous guys have.".
Add the memos and the EO's together...and that changes the number a bit.
Well, yes, but why is Hillary the only one who's being taken to task for this? If want to stand on the policy high-ground, fine, but you don't get to play politics with what you see from there. You either hand out sanctions and punishment with an even hand or you STFU.
Well...to be fair. As far as the mis-handling of classified materials as far as storing them improperly, etc. They DID go pretty hard after Gen. Petraus (sp?) just a couple of years ago. He had physical documents in a desk...not on the internet for any country and hacker to try to access.
They hit him pretty hard. I"d except Hillary should likely suffer about the same level at least.
What would I do?
