Enemies I have no problem with taking out. I do value life, but it goes in order of my life, family life, friends lives, neighbors lives, countrymen....and down the chain. By the time I get to the bad guys, they are on the easy peasy list pretty quickly.

It is a mindset sure, but not difficult for me. For example I did think long and hard before going for a Concealed Carry license and more broadly, having a gun in my house at all times. If you are not willing to use it and shoot to kill, you'd best not have one. I a clear and easy with that decision and am a gun owner.

I don't see the huge amount of stress from flying a drone via remote control all day. You fly surveillance, occasionally get to bomb a bad guy...seems pretty much easy peasy.

Do people playing regular video games find they are stressed out? I thought most people played video games to relieve stress. Well, IMHO, this seems mostly like a video game so I'm not seeing the huge stress factor. Sure if you blow up a bad guy, it is real here but it is still so abstracted that it isn't all that "real".

Unless the work environment itself is bad, lousy boss/commander, or long hours, I don't see how this could be that stressful. You're certainly not going to be suffering PTSD doing this job....

No, I've not been in the military, I don't like the idea of getting shot AT, but I'd have no problem being on firing squad duty or this type thing where you're doing it via video remotely.

My thoughts are, if you are afraid of police interactions, then the thing to do is...try NOT to provoke them. That means if you are pulled over, comply with their demands (you can still assert your rights if need be), don't run, don't make sudden movements, move slowly and don't provoke a reaction...speak as little as possible, don't be belligerent and above all, keep calm.

When I see films of the police engaging someone and that citizen goes bat shit crazy ranting and raving or resisting the cops or running away (you can't run away from a radio idiot)...well, while I don't agree with it, I think they are often asking for trouble by escalating the incident.

More and more it is clear that those picked in Iowa aren't generally reflective of what the larger country wants...their winners in the past years often are not what is reflected in other states, and it seems a bad thing to let them always start and begin the process of weeding down the field of candidates (especially in this age of 24/7 media) before a more broad opinion of the full 50 states has been heard?

Well, to be a good negotiator, you have to be willing to LOSE.

But to make that easier...you want to be looking for a NEW job while you STILL have a job.

Things are a bit more dicey if you are out of work and NEED a job....so, try always to negotiate from a vantage point of power. If you don't need the job, you can negotiate much better. Saying no doesn't bother you in that game of chicken.

And in this day in age, you should be interviewing for new jobs at least 1-2 times a year, if for nothing else, to keep in practice.

The only way you move forward in salary and responsibility if you're in the W2 race, is to change jobs every few years.

  19. Then perhaps you short-circuit this from happening altogether, and instead pose the question of relevance when current salary is queried.

It is an odd question. It's like going to buy a new car and the dealer asking you what you paid for your last one.

    Yup.

One of the golden rules of negotiation is..the first party to give a solid number is the loser.

I'm negotiating contract bill rates these days, thank goodness I've not had to negotiate a W2 salary in awhile, with having to factor what benefits they offer, etc. I'd much rather know what I'm paying for health, retirement,e tc...and know what my bill rate is, profit vs necessity.

That being said, I stick with broad numbers and narrow it down to have them give me a number first and then we negotiate. I start higher than their number and they come up, I go down, them up...etc.

I agree. A true artist makes their art for themselves FIRST and enjoys the fact that others like it too second.

Of course with rock music, it also plays to helping ugly guys get laid too, but that's another thread.

But in most cases, trying to pander to the money or follow it over art is in the not very long term a failure.

Take Led Zeppelin. Sure they made a LOT of money, but that didn't seem the reason for their musical choices. It was what THEY wanted to explore and convey. It happened to be of such quality that they sold a lot of it, and continue to do so after all these years.

They also went out and gave the people what they wanted in the form of live performances. In those days, your ticket got you usually nearly a 3 hour concert, and it wasn't lip synched....no auto tune, and often it was improvised on the spot. Sure you would get some flub notes....especially with Jimmy trying to squeeze 50M notes into two bars at times, but hey...they gave you all they could. You don't see that much anymore.

But if you are good, you will get the money....but your art should be for YOU first, and if it is worthy the crowd will follow and pay you for it.
