As an aside, is it OK to refer to people as "illegals" and their children as "anchor babies"?
Yes, it is proper..because it is accurate. They have not followed the proper channels and procedures to either come here on a temporary visa or to try to become a citizen of the US.
Anchor babies" sounds like the people had children in the country for the express intent of using immigration policy to preserve their own residence. It's without love for the child.
While I'm sure they love the child...the rest of your definition of anchor baby is 100% accurate.
And nothing, nothing you do in your lifetime will make a difference to the longevity of the species as a whole...
Absolutely true!!
That's why I don't really bother too much with disposing of things correctly (old computer, monitors and everything else go straight into the trash to be picked up in front of my house)....I don't drive slow, and while I don't have a gas guzzler anymore...I don't go out of my way to conserve gas, I drive like a bat outta hell 'cause it is fun.
I mean...a generation from now...what they hell, no one there is going to know who I was, or blame me for anything (debt, ecological, etc). And I'll be long dead, so, what do I care?
To paraphrase Jim Morrison, 'I'm gonna get my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames...'
PS4 may be more of a Entertainment AV Receiver (minus the Amp) making it less a "serious" gaming console.
What about putting this other functionality on the PS have to do with lessening it as a 'serious gaming console'. I mean, as long as it plays games well, what else does it need to be to be a serious gaming console?
Added functionality opens many new doors for them. I mean, I bought myself a PS3 for Xmas this past year. I bought it for the following reasons, in order:
1. It is a 3D bluray player
2. It streams Netflix
3. Oh yeah, I hear it also happens to play games too. And if you play games on it, you can play them over the network for no additional charge.
I've bought a few games...Batman Arkham asylum (unopened still), Red Dead Redemption (opened and played Xmas day...but can't keep from getting killed, gonna take FOREVER to learn all those damned buttons), and it came with something called Uncharted 2..which I hear is good, but it too is unopened.
I have discovered on the PS Network, you can download free demo games...and I have played a few of those...currently I like Risk, and You Don't Know Jack...but, honestly, I run the PS3 almost every night....and 99% of the time, it is to stream Netflix, and of late...to run a break in DVD for my new Plasma 59" TV....
Activesync works on other mail servers as well. Evolution works with exchange, using OWA works fine, and if you enable IMAP you can use any client you like. I still do not understand why exchange admins hate IMAP so much. I can only figure NIH.
I hear ya....I dunno why most Exchange setups won't activate plain old IMAP either.
I wish they would so I could use mutt....I'd be happy as a clam to be able to use that for my email instead of Outlook
My personal opinion is that people should be free to be antisocial asshats, and everyone else should be free to call them such.
Hear hear...well, spoken Bruce!!
I like to help my fellow man...I often help my friends and family whenever I can.
I don't mind being asked to help as long as 'no' is a reasonable choice of answers. I don't say no very often, but there are times when I can't afford the time or money to help.
Do I give till it hurts? No.
There is a level of who I care about...close family first...close long term friends...friends...drinking buddies...etc.
Each come with their own level to which I'll inconvenience myself or even risk my own lifestyle to help.
For the general public...I'll help just to the point to where it is detrimental to me or those close to me. In the end, in general, life is a contest and competition. I don't hold anything against my fellow man...until I start to lose, then, I fight to get what I want. There are always winners and losers in life. I strive to at all times be a winner.
Life is short...too short to not live and enjoy it to the best of your capability. And if someone is in your way or competing to take something you need/want...well, it is a contest between you and them.
Altruism is nice...until your life starts to suffer, and I don't really know anyone out there, in the end...that is more important in my life to me.
You only get one shot at life....why not make it count!
Actually I hate ATM's, I have found I spend less if I actually have to go inside, not to mention I actually like the people that work in my bank, they all know me by name and are even comfortable enough to give me hell when I'm there (jokingly of course). On the other hand there is a branch of the same bank up the street that a requirement to work there is to be an asshole, I absolutely refuse to use that branch.
I can see your points...all valid.
My trouble is...I rarely can make it to a bank when people are actually there occupying it and working there. Most hours I have for banking....are after banking normal hours.
Heck, one of my FAVORITE things..is the iPhone app for my bank...I can just take pictures of most checks I get...and deposit them that way, with no need to actually even hit an ATM, much less a teller window.
Who uses coupons? Why would I waste an hour of my life to save 50 cents off something I don't want?
I've not been using them as much lately, but I have in the past and you can SAVE a good amount of money.
First rule is, and you've alluded to it...ONLY use them to buy things you want and use.
I often spend a relaxing Sunday morning, going through the newpaper, maybe drinking a little kicked up coffee...I read the paper, look whats on sale at various stores, and I get the coupons out. I look through the coupons, usually 2-3 'books' of a few pages each and clip out what I like to use.
I have an organizer, and I put the coupons in there. I generally know what I have coupons for.
Before I go shopping, and I usually do my weeks worth of shopping on Sunday mornings, and get out early before the crowds hit.
I look at the various grocery stores weekly specials...and from there, plan what I'm going to cook. I like to cook and can either make up stuff based on sale ingredients for that week, or know of recipes I've been wanting to try..
I hit the store..get what I want, and use coupons that are appropriate for that weeks meals. If something is on sale, I may buy that item (if non-perishable) on sale with the coupon.
Those $0.25-$0.50 really can add up, and it doesn't take the cashier long to scan them. It can really add up if you hit a store that does double coupons.
Does it take a little extra time? Sure.....but not that much. I rarely eat out for crap food like fast food. If I'm going to dine out...I like to go once or twice a month to a NICE restaurant with servers and good wine, and things that I'd likely not cook at home....and I CAN cook some pretty complex and exotic things.
I figure my savings with sales and coupons contributes to good meals out.
I've not used coupons as much lately, as that these days many of them are for processed foods, and I more and more tend to shop on the outside aisles of the stores...fresh produce, meats, dairy....I like to cook from scratch.
And cooking what's on sale that week....has its benefits. I don't get stuck in a rut eating the same stuff all the time.
Again...I enjoy cooking. so, it doesn't work for everyone...I usually cook 2-3 main entrees and 2-4 sides on Sunday...and have most of my food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for the whole week. It is cheaper, healthier, etc...and to me, fun.
I also keep a pretty well stocked pantry..so, often times...I may not need to buy much more than raw meats and fresh veggies....I often have the rest at home already.
Lastly..summertime is really great...I use the charcoal grill a LOT. I'll often grill up different veggies and meats....and then during the week, put them together in fun ways....wrap sandwiches, salads....jambalaya (ok, not so much that one lately as I'm low carb...but I do live in New Orleans, so there are some staples you do, to use all your leftovers and make it taste good.).
Depends on your life, lifestyle and what you like to do with your time.
Food is a big one with me....so, it doesn't seem like I'm wasting time on it.
Housecleaning on the other hand....well, that blows, but has to be done too from time to time.
Sadly....many of them likely were not coming to age in a non-smartphone world. If that's all they've known...etc.
I admit, I like staying connected a LOT....but I do enjoy times when I don't wanna be contacted, nor do I want to contact anyone. A nice beach in the Caribbean or Key West maybe...no need for phones or computers, just some tunes....rum punch and girls in soon to be shed bikinis.
Also, politically it makes Obama look good because it gives the impression he gets stuff done competently. He might be able to point to it in the next presidential campaign.
Oh God, let's hope that doesn't work. We can't take 4 more years of this clown.
I will admit, he had done LOTS of killing. He did kill Osama, he did kill the economy, he's working on killing the constitution (carrying on that job from others granted), killing off freedoms and way of life previously lived in the US....etc...etc.
It seemed pretty much par for the course in college that a significant amount of people didn't own a TV. In the dorms...
Wow...things must have changed a LOT since I was in school. We pretty much ALL had tv's in college. Of course this was before most people had a personal computer, and no such thing as the internet....but we all had TV's.
That cheap? I pay $50 for decent DSL, and the only thing cheaper is dialup really. Are you listing the real price, or only the first-year price for new subscribers?
Nope, I pay $69 a month for business connection in New Orleans and area. That is the normal price they give no breaks for the first 6mos like residential ones.I get a static IP address for that too.
You know...these hardware suggestions are helpful.
But why not just address the root problem here...the capping.
Why not just pony up about $69/mo...and get a business connection for your home.
I have mine with Cox cable and it is great. I get roughly 10-14 down and 5-10 up...at times I've measured it. I have no caps. I can run all the servers I want to. I even get a low level SLA, and the few times I've needed help, they are on the phone with me almost any time I need it..and they have even sent people out to the poles around my places when I needed help in the middle of the night even.
So, why not get a connection like that? Its not that expensive, and you get the bandwidth you want plus a few perks.
Personally... I'd rather spend that hour working and leave an hour earlier.
Generally I'm at work to make money and not to make friends. I know every company does the rah-rah, we're awesome, "team-building", let's all be friends so we work better together. But I'd rather just be professional, get my work done, and spend my free time how I see fit.
Yeah...I'm largely the same way, but it is a tough choice. I've been on teams where we'd usually have one day a week where most of us would go eat together somewhere. I'm in New Orleans, and well....food is a major thing down here, and so many good places to do. Trouble is..lunch here is always a 1.5-2 hour deal. Working contracting, you keep a close eye on hours. I mostly like to bring my lunch (I cook a lot on Sundays for breakfasts, lunches and some dinners for the whole work week, so I can have time for gym, etc too). I usually eat at my desk and work through lunch so that I'm here 8 hour period.
Latest team...no one goes out together...and I must admit I do miss some of the meals out, as that it IS nice to eat with co-workers and makes for a nicer place to work because it gets a bit more personal that way.
But I only like to do this if it is NOT fast food. If I'm gonna eat out, I want somewhere I sit down and get waited on...but again, living in NOLA, that is not a problem, good places outnumber the fast food joints here.
It does bring up one thing I've noticed on work group meals, and it seems to be the difference between men and women.
In general, a group of 5-15+ guys eat out together, the check comes (most places in NOLA will not do separate checks), we get the bill, add on 20% for tip, and split it evenly between everyone there.
If there are women in the group...geez, the calculators come out, and they try to figure what everyone had to the penny, and usually the tip is short....
It should actually allow the area to consider raising the speed limit. Just sending police out sounds like a kneejerk reaction. OMG YOU ARE SPEEDING!!!
Why would theyd oo that?
I mean...this day in age, speeding tickets are not for public safety...they are pretty much solely for revenue generation!!
For instance...in New Orleans, they now have stop light cameras that are also (I found out 7 tickets too late) speeding cameras. The tickets they send you for this are marked bodly on the back that they are NOT MOVING VIOLATIONS and will not count against your driving record.
C'mon....a speeding or running a stop light is not a moving violation??
Not only that, when the first challenges in court to remove these things came up, the city council and the mayor came on tv, and first thing they said was that if they got rid of them they'd lose $x million dollars a year in revenue....OH...and also, they are for safety. I shit you not that is almost exactly a quote.
I tell you, if you were to take the money from the fines for traffic violations, and rather than put them into the coffers of the cops or city/state and instead redistributed them at EOY to all the citizens that didn't get a ticket...as a reward, I guarantee you the authorities would immediately stop all the efforts to enforce them with such vigor.
Here's what I don't understand. Let's say you do pay full price for a phone... why is your monthly rate the same as someone who buys a subsidized phone?
Because in the US, that outlier situation just isn't something the phone companies systems are set up for....
I'd dare say, if you asked most US citizens, they'd have no idea people purchase phones any other way than to get a new one at $X for 2 year contract. The concept of buying an unsubsidized phone with contract is foreign to them.
So, I'd dare say with the paradigm that has been in place since the start of the US cell phone business, the systems at the phone co. just aren't even set up to accommodate this since it just isn't normally done in the US.
Yep...I'm getting older and had to do most of the stuff you mentioned.
And actually..the thing that stuck out to me about the new Win8....the fucking ribbon interface.
Geez...I hate that in MS Office (took me forever to find where the damned save and save as buttons were...nothing in the world told me that big round button top left was something you'd click on for that stuff.
It just isn't intuitive at all IMHO.
I can make my way around it now, but is a PITA to do anything and I only use MS office apps when I absolutely have to.
But now..the whole OS interface with ribbon?
I don't see myself buying any more windows stuff. I'll stick with linux and OSX when possible. I can have a GUI that is easy to use and find things...and good command line.
I somehow doubt that kinetic resistance (ie. murder people, er "washing away blood with blood") will cause police to back down; and I for one would not be crazy about living in a city where somebody other than the police is able to bring sufficient "kinetic resistance" to settle disputes. It'd probably be more useful to cut that "homeland security" grant they used to buy their guns, vests, training, mobile incident response unit... They assault houses because they fancy themselves soldiers, and a lot of them have been, as a matter of fact.
Well, that's the thing really. I mean, it is perfectly legal to own all kinds of 'kinetic resistance' in one's own home to protect oneself. These raids could lead to major escalation.
I mean, if someone is bursting into my house unannounced and scares me I will likely be emptying every gun I can in the direction of the noise assuming it is a criminal breaking and entering my house with intent to harm myself or family.
This type of raid was un-called for....it would be horrible for them todo this, get into a gunfight with the owner (perfectly within his rights if he had no idea it was the cops)..and he got killed and subsequently was found innocent?
Yes, it is proper..because it is accurate. They have not followed the proper channels and procedures to either come here on a temporary visa or to try to become a citizen of the US.

Jane, you ignorant slut....
Do you think Bill Clinton will want us to first clarify the truth about Hillary's story about landing in Bosnia under sniper fire ?
I take it you don't have a very extensive music collection, if it will all fit on one single phone.

Geez, lighten up Francis...
Violets are Blue...
I'm schizophrenic....
And so am I.......

I've heard tale that MS is going to make most everything in the OS ribbon with Win8.
I don't see myself moving to THAT any time soon voluntarily....
