I think Casey Neistat would have discovered it with the pre-production model first. He tends to fly his drones out over the water. I think he had a video of fishing his Phantom drone out of the surf for whatever reason.

You know..I did a LOT of YouTube research amongst other sites researching for my first drone, which has turned out to be the DJI Spark.

A lot of videos for this Casey guy came up, but man...there is just something about that guy I just can NOT watch....

I dunno if it is his voice, his personality, mannerisms...dress or just his face....perhaps all of the above.

But I just can not stand to watch that guy.

ON the plus side...I was poking around Amazon Prime Day, and thought to just see if Spark's came up.

I saw for awhile they had 20% off the Spark (usually $499). I looked to see the Fly More combo, that has the Spark, remote, extra battery, fan guards, 3 battery charger, etc...which is usually $699.

I thought, well hell, at 20%, even with Amazon charging sales tax, that was about the best deal I'd seen...I put the Flymore combo in my cart...and when I looked..rather than just 20% off...it had multiple lines of love $100 off.

I quickly bought..and Amazon ended up selling it to me for right about at $286!!!

    I couldn't believe it...

I sent links to my friends...by the time they looked into it...no more discount, not even the notice about 20% off was there...minutes later.

So, maybe I caught a lucky Amazon system glitch....

I've not flown it much yet, but so far is cool.

Just hope it doesn't fall out of the sky.....

It is precisely THAT kind of thinking that is going to possibly eventually *doom* us all to perpetual, rental of software, rather than ownership (perpetual license if you're picky)...and that is NOT a good thing for consumers.

Once the companies have you trapped in rental..they really have no incentive to improve and innovate now do they?

We've seen it with Adobe's Creative Cloud rental system....you haven't seen any truly breakthrough improvements to date. Yes, they roll out some nice things here and there, but nothing that is earthshaking. I've certainly not found I miss anything by still using my CS6 apps I bought.

And we've seen problems with Adobe CC...they will roll stuff out that breaks on peoples systems, and well....you're SOL till they can get an online fix out, meanwhile, you lose business.

There are also people who've lost out by having their registration get lost in the system or broken, and again...they are SOL till customer service can help, and well, I think with most of these places we know the terms "customer service" and "help" are mutually exclusive terms.

I can see it going this way with ANY software rental.

The best way to avoid this is to pay with your wallet.

don't be surprised if every automobile is required relatively soon to carry a V2V beacon which reports on (at minimum) vehicle speed, accelerator pedal position, and brake light switch state.

Well, that would take the fun out of driving for sure...AND, it would slow people and commerce much more than I think people realize.

I'm not the only one on the highways here, going a minimum of 85mph...you go slower than that, you'll get run over.

I don't mind it, I like that speed, am comfortable with it and have no problem with it.

The thing is, it isn't just commercial vehicles, but commercial trucking.

If everyone suddenly actually went the posted speed limits, things in this country will slow waaaay down.

That and really, I'm not wanting to have my privacy intruded on with such a system, as that it would surely be exploited VERY easily to track my travels and whereabouts by city/state/feds....and likely, commercial interests too.

I know it is getting tougher to stay off the map, but I'd hate to see this mandated which would ensure you are tracked at all times.

Hell, most people in the US are working at least an 8 hour day, and not taking a lunch break, but instead eating at their desks.

I"m glad I work from home now...yes, I eat at my "work place"...but I now have freedom to do it in my own kitchen, or if I wanna really have fun, I can fire up the smoker in the back yard in the morning, and low and slow cook a brisket and have ready for dinner, or rotisserie a chicken on the ceramic cooker out back...for lunch.

I do like being able to do that, and with a headset on, you can teleconference while you're sautéing something on the stove.

But wow...taking 3 hours off from work during the day....sounds nice, but if I were gone that long from work..I'd NOT want to come back and would have a hard time getting my mindset back on work again.

Example (read towards the bottom of the page)

After that you just get all the other parts to assemble it, which are completely unregulated.

This gets out of some taxes, but most of all, it is a legal weapon without a serial number, and no background check or other hassle from the government. It qualifies as a self made weapon and you don't have to register it, or anything. You can't sell it without having to then do the FFL registration thing, but you are free to possess and use it otherwise without the need for govt. interference..
