All alternate browsers must use the Safari rendering engine - in short you can get a fancy front end, but not a new backend (like say Firefox's backend, or Opera, etc) Note that Opera's Mini browser gets a pass since most work doesn't occur on the device, but Opera's backend servers. You can't get the "real" Opera browser on the phone.
Unless somethings changed in the last year, I can't port Opera or Firefox or Chrome over, etc
I'm supposed to care about this because? Firefox used to run like absolute CRAP on OS X for a number of years, Opera is used by almost nobody and Chrome's engine is only different in the javascript engine as the main renderer is webkit.
I don't want the bloated mozilla codebase on my iOS devices and I have no interest in Opera. Much of what chrome offers is duplicated with third party browsers that still use the same renderer and javascript engine as safari but offer additional features like a persistent "desktop-like" tab bar, file downloads and extensions. iCab is one example with extended functionality.
Tell me again about your "personal relationship" with the being that created all of that?
Sorry but what does size of the universe have to do with that? You seem to have a lack of self esteem
Hey, our species created the being that "created" all of that. We should have esteem++.
Unless we're not delusional.
I find your circular logic amusing. Is this what you tell yourself to sleep at night? Does it keep your conscience at bay? Have you ever wondered why you are wired with a conscience that seems to war against your base desires?
Tell me again about your "personal relationship" with the being that created all of that?
Sorry but what does size of the universe have to do with that? You seem to have a lack of self esteem. Again, I'm not trying to force you to change your beliefs but I have to question the logic of your statement. One could argue that the size of the universe displays the awesome and limitless power of the almighty and the ability of the almighty to notice individuals within the scope of that creation. To me, that is awe inspiring.
4G is defined as 100mbit/s for highly mobile units (in a car, on a train) and 1gbit/s for low mobility users (standing still, walking.) Neither LTA nor HSPA qualify.
Neither does the current implementation of WiMAX. I don't care what 4G "was" defined as but rather what the new de-facto measure is.
None of those are actually 4g speeds. At best they are 3g+.
What do you consider 4G speeds? Based on what I have seen from people posting their LTE speeds on Verizon and AT&T, 4G appears to be between 11 Mbits/sec and 40 Mbits/sec while DC HSPA can offer up to 42 Mbit/sec and HSPA can offer 21 Mbits/sec as a maximum with an actual speed between 10 - 35 Mbits/sec.
This is about real time access with a warrant. I suggest that everyone RTFA for once. The summary and title are WRONG. That is not to say that it is not still troubling but let's be real here.
I have successfully used time machine backups on my external 2Tb FW800 drive to migrate over from a MBP to my iMac.
Time machine gives me backup and redundancy in case something in a file becomes corrupt or I accidentally delete something. Versions in Lion gives me even greater granularity allowing me to revert to a previous revision of a file in programs that support that feature.
Windows has had Volume Shadow Copy since XP which does the same kind of thing, it just does not have a flashy interface.
Volume shadow copy is neither a disaster recovery backup or redundancy since it resides on the same volume so if you have a hard drive failure you have no backup. Time machine actually "requires" an external drive or NAS device like Time Capsule so if your hard drive fails then your backup does not go with it and you don't have to remove your drive to restore to another machine should your machine have a bad motherboard.
They cannot all be 3G since EVDO has a maximum 2.45 Mbit/s to 3.1 Mbit/s. EVDO either has to be demoted to 2.5G or HSPA+ and above has to be considered de-facto "4G".
To me, if the typical speed of HSPA+ in some markets is "higher" than LTE 4G in other markets then that means that HSPA+ is 4G effectively.
Actually, in general, the trans community (US) wants nothing to do with such people, they are pretty ostracized and many trans peeps consider their very mention (not by just term, but their existence) to be offensive.. so they are generally not welcome under the 'transgendered' umbrella.
Well, well. It looks like gay people are only human after all. They have the same kind of prejudices and hypocrisy as the rest of us. I hear that gay people also attack men who identify themselves as bi-sexual too.
As an outsider looking in, I find the entire thing to be quite amusing. Perhaps the gay people should get their own house in order before they start attacking society in general demanding special rights and treatment.
Freedom of religion is what leaves you free to have no religion.
Freedom from religion would be better. That way, you could have your religion (in your basement, in the dark (as it should be - you alone comuning with your sky fairy)), and nobody would bother persecuting you for it. Everyone wins.
So you would support some crazy KKK person having freedom from dining with black people? No? You are free to practice your religious belief that you have no religion in your mother's basement if you wish but that freedom does not mean that you get to dictate whether other people are allowed to practice their faith in public. If you want to be "free" from interacting with religious people then stop trolling in stories like this one and stay in your basement dwelling. It is up to you to remove yourself from the equation. Alternatively, you can show some modicum of "tolerance" and tolerate those who think differently than you do. That is the price you have to pay to live in a free society.
No, he's referring to a conspicuous weakness of the final lines of (quad-core, btw) G5 macs compared to the company's own first competing Intel offerings. Another not-so-well-known weakness is that they also drew more juice under load than most full-sized refrigerators.
The G5's were faster than P4's of the same period but the Core Duo was a significantly different animal from P4's that were around when the G5 came out. I see no conflict here. Intel learned some things from the competition and stepped up their game with the Core series of processors.
the text gets sent using cheap data instead of expensive SMS.
Expensive SMS? Every tariff I've seen recently includes thousands of texts a month, bundled into the monthly fee. Maybe if you are on PAYG *and* can find a cheap data tariff *and* you already pay some expensive per-SMS fee, then it's might to be useful, but for the vast majority of people on contracts it will make absolutely no difference to their bills.
Tariff? Are you a brit? The maximum size of an SMS is 140 8-bit characters which means that a plan offering 200 text messages for 5 dollars per month. If you convert that into kilobytes, that means that you are paying around 18.5 cents per kilobyte. That is really expensive compared to a data plan for say 30 bucks for 6GB of data. You do not realize that while your texting plan might not be visibly separate from your "plan", they are still making a killing from your for those "texts" compared with what it costs them to transmit even if you don't go over your limit of texts.
Please stop that drivel immediately. Do you americans really believe that crap? You are a democracy and a republic is a type of structure for a government. You can have a republic which is unelected or elected and you can have a parliamentary system which is democratically elected on not in theory. Democracy concerns how representatives are chosen, not how representation is structured or how powers are divided within the government. You can also have a combination of elected and unelected portions of a government.
Finland, for example is a combination of a republic and a parliamentary system and they are a democracy. They have a president and a prime minister and the latter choses their cabinet from among members in their parliament. Canada is a parliamentary democracy, with a democratically elected house of commons and an unelected senate.
A high intellect and wisdom are rarely found in the same man or woman. To be a great leader, one does not have to have the highest intellect but rather wisdom to make the right choices. One of the most important choices a leader can make are the advisors they surround themselves with. A leader cannot be an expert at everything. Being able to admit that you are not an expert at everything takes humility which is a desirable trait in a leader.
If one takes a look at some of the most successful conquerers of history, a common theme emerges. They are all quite intelligent yet lacking in humility and human compassion. These traits ultimately lead to their downfall as they begin to kill off their closest advisors and take unwise risks based on their emotion and ego.
One more thing, christianity has the concept of "judge not lest ye be judged". That basically means that we are supposed to tolerate others in society with wrong headed ideas and allow god to judge them. I'm here to judge you because I will leave that up to god but I will try to clear up your misconceptions as best as I can.
PS. Can you please stop lumping christianity in with Islam? Christians do not believe in suicide let alone suicide bombing or killing of innocents. We also do not believe it is ok to lie to people and stoning people to death would be wrong because Jesus stopped people from being stoned. When he did that, he was basically implying that they accusers were just as guilty so they had no right to judge.
Your feel-good nonsense makes no sense. Why should a 'true' religion teach tolerance? It's actually more internally consistant to preach intolerance: If you accept any religion as true, then by implication all others must be false, and why would a believer tolerate the lies of another faith? Espicially if, as both Christianity and Islam claim, nonbelievers are damned to hell. If you accept that, then tolerance itsself becomes an evil act - condemning others to eternal torment because you are too cowardly to fight the liars on earth.
I am tolerating you right now. I tolerate your ignorance of what "tolerance" means. It does not mean that you accept other beliefs as "true". You are confusing tolerance with pluralism. You cannot be tolerant and pluralistic towards religions at the same time just as you cannot be tolerant and intolerant of other religions at the same time. Think of tolerance as being in the middle of a spectrum with intolerance on one end and pluralism at the other. To tolerate, you have to believe that what you follow is the truth and other paths are either completely false or corrupted.
I cannot believe what people are being taught these days. Open up a dictionary and take a look. You really don't seem to get christianity at all. Many christians believe that everyone deserves to go to hell but that those who accept Christ as their saviour will be saved. The premise is that you cannot buy yourself into heaven or earn it through good deeds. The only path is through surrender and accepting it as a gift. What holds people back is their ego and their pride. Many people are not willing to admit that they are just as petty and cruel as their fellow men and women whether they just think evil thoughts or carry them out.
I have never voted for the NDP but I kept on getting propaganda from them presumably because the previous tenant was presumably an ardent supporter. At two different occasions, I received robocalls informing me that I was about to be placed in a conference call with the local NDP candidate around dinner time and I had a hell of a time getting the phone to hang up as it kept on calling me back when I put down the receiver.
Sex does not "require" two people. Masturbation is indeed sex, as most Canadians would admit (perhaps most Americans would not?).
In Canada, there are frequently naked people on television as there are in many parts of the world. Having them on a phone does not seem that radical. The idea that naked imagery is immediately "pornographic" or "prostitutional" is almost a uniquely American concept.
Keep on telling yourself that buddy. You can sexually stimulate yourself but actual sex requires another person. Also, keep telling yourself that anyone that disagrees with you has to be an American. You need someone with a penis and someone with a vagina in order to have actual "sex" as the whole point of sex from a biological standpoint is for "reproduction. In the human species, that requires a male and a female. If you were a species with both sex organs then you would not require another member of your species to have "sex" but in the cause of humans, another person if the opposite sex is required for sexual reproduction.
RIM is from Canada: fewer puritans, healthier attitude towards sex.
Watching pornography on your phone has nothing to do with "sex". Sex requires two people and some would argue two sexes. Masturbation does not count as sex.
A healthier attitude towards sex would be to not automatically equate nudity with sex and to have sex with an actual human being you have strong feelings for.
But you go ahead and continue telling yourself that pornography and/or prostitutes are a healthy substitute for an actual relationship if that makes you feel better.
Don't you need a dev account to generate/issue "provisioning codes"? That just seems like a needless step. This is generally what happens:
me: "hey dev, there is a bug that does X, reproduce it by Y" dev: "oh shit i forgot about that, here let me compile this and throw up a URL on the forum and people can test it" me: navigates to forum, clicks on link, installs app, gives feedback, repeat
This is a 5-10 minute process and lots of people can participate, it works great:) Rapid prototyping is fun and lots of great features have been added as a result of this process. It also avoids the headache of waiting for a final build to get approved and go live on the * app store.
Yes, the person you are beta testing for has to have a dev account because they are part of the developer program. Why is that so hard for you to understand?
Beta testing generally requires you to receive an official invitation from the developer. That is how it generally works. If you are not part of a beta program then you just basically stole a copy of the prerelease version and you are then not beta testing anything. Beta testing generally requires you to submit feedback.
and burn up your data plan? and make roaming cost $$$$ as with out a international data plan and you don't even need to be outside the usa as you can be in boarder area pick up a non us tower and get hit with fees as high as $20 a MEG!
Uh, yeah. There is this technology called "WIFI". Perhaps you have heard of it? We have ubiquitous Wifi here in Canada in most cities. Just go to Starbucks or McDonald's. Chances are that if you are editing a document then you are somewhere that has Wifi.
I test out betas of people's android software on my phone all the time. I didn't have to sign up for a silly developer account. I just went in to the settings and checked the box that said "run unsigned code" and it just worked. Good times.
None of that requires a dev account. You can beta test software on iOS without a dev account. The developer with the dev account supplies you with the software and a provisioning code.
It looks really nice, but I just can't bring myself to drink the Koolaid and walk into the walled garden. I like a little more freedom in my devices.
Now if you could jail brake it and install Android 4.0 I might consider it for the specs. I have to hand to Apple, they do look damn good.
Freedom to do what exactly? Have actually written anything for linux let alone Android? When I say "write", I'm not talking about downloading the source from some project SVN repo and doing a compile but rather writing something yourself.
BTW. You can also write something yourself with a mac and and a developer account. The advantage with iOS is that you actually have a chance to earn back your money and possibly make a decent living without selling your soul to advertisers.
