Agreed. I think at some point people will begin to question the need for police or the need to respect the police if anyone is being considered a suspect. I think this type of reasoning is going to force a debate on redefining the role of police, law enforcement and the courts. Hopefully before everyone's rights are taken away.
In some neighborhoods people are often uncooperative with police to begin with because 1) they don't trust the police 2) they think the police might have an alternative agenda 3) they don't want to incriminate themselves while being a witness 4) they've had bad experiences 5) one bad cop can really ruin your day. One that lies and manipulates is impossible to handle. They have an investigations unit that always sides with the cop, as do the courts and lawyers. My words against yours... try me mentality.
Software is killing RIM. The hardware is not the problem.
I remember too reading on/. that a good portion of their sales are also in Government - particularly military because of all the security and maybe certification it received. So there was talk about the Playbook getting huge orders from the US military. I don't think those ever materialized.
The Playbook has been a failure. The hardware is awesome (I own one) but the software/OS sucks. I'm hoping 2.0 comes out soon so I can just install Android apps on it.
As for the BB, I would agree with many other comments. They aren't adapting to market needs for consumer or enterprise. I had one 3 years ago. Happy enough with it. Then I got one of the 9500 series. I feel like bricking it and throwing it away. I'm waiting for my contract to end. There's way too many simple bugs in the OS/apps that they probably won't ever bother to fix.
In my undergrad, I took biology and chemistry classes. But then they go and charge the same price for information/research (for introductory level courses anyways) that has not changed for decades. The same book that cost $200 in 1990 is still $200 in 2010, still has tons of typos, ambiguous phrasing, still doesn't source the material and is by that point in the 50th edition. Maybe the typos are introduced on purpose as an excuse to come out with a new revised edition, with -different- typos.
If you want $200 for the same old book, write the test for the student and get them an A+. Otherwise, I would hope for future generations of students, the prices of the books drop either from electronic versions or dropping the price of the books anyways.
I'm wondering what if you don't consent to the x-ray. Will they throw your ass in jail for not willing to cooperate? If you are a tourist from Canada, are you allowed to turn-around and not go to the states? (this will obviously complicate any future returns)
It seems people have already had problems when they turn around at the airport or refuse the other xray equipment.
I'd like to see a waiver form. Do you consent to an xray? Are you aware that these pose a cancer risk? Are you aware that these machines may not be sufficiently or professionally calibrated which may increase your risk of cancer?
I'm a Canadian. So long as these scanners are in place, I'm going to reconsider any traveling to the US.
This policy is in place to catch money/drug/weapon smugglers and presumably terrorists. None of this will halt.
There's an easy way to find out who they are handing out the licenses to.
People with names like Charles I. Anthony or Fred B. Ingle or David E. Adams should each apply for drone license. Whomever among Charles, Fred and David get the license first with the least amount of questions and bureaucratic run around should easily point in the right direction.
Then again, the USPS or the IRS might be in need of a few drone planes. Maybe to figure out zip codes. Or find out if people are paying the right amount on their taxes. Then there is no problem at all!
Not only that but Intel is a behemoth opposite their closest competitor/rival: AMD. AMD is staying afloat. Unless they make the margins Intel is making on its chips or they can sell millions of PCs / tablet a year, I don't think this will work out well for them. There's also a lot of incentives and product placement for HP, Apple, etc online and in retail stores like Best Buy. Sorry but who is going to buy the Qualcomm ARM Windows 8 system. Intel and AMD are the brand people recognize. Besides the only growth market right now seems to be iPad tablets.
This was avoidable if proper protocols were followed.
I suggest a revision. All satellites shall be subject to a careful search by your local DHS officers. It will reenter (presumably) American Airspace at some point.... so you can never be too sure!
This search might involve the delicate dismantling of the satellite by the DHS officers.
The satellite won't get put back together properly. It will wrecks several billion dollars of government money, pisses off several major defense contractors, taxpayers and politicians in the process. DHS will be scrapped along with all the ultra-penetrating cancer causing detectors.
I know the first answer someone is probably going to think about is - "Ignorance of the law is no excuse" but....
Our laws are too complicated now. We know not to murder someone. But, when it gets to the point of, "Ask the ACLU if they can do this." or "Ask your attorney" the law is getting too damn difficult for people to understand. I'm not a religious person, but the 10 Commandments is sort of a good standing ground. Why cant we have - "Thou shalt not....." rather than having "Thou shalt not....." (see exceptions, below and per previous cases)? Do we need to have the ACLU on speed-dial or do we need to read the entire law book just to make sure we know everything?
The search for explosives is a good idea on the surface but they can always find other things that might get you arrested even if you're really nice about consenting.
And besides the fact that some police officers will abuse their powers and they can and always will change their story to work in their favor. Judges will usually side with the police even if you're an angel before it goes to a court.
Basically your mostly option is to change the Senators, Congressman and President to more average joes. Since its usually only the elite sitting in office, they could care less about most of us.
This is not just cause. Way I see it, promote him and let him sleep with the wife.
The employee is usually younger than the boss. Younger people might perform better sex. Better sex = Happy wife = Happy marriage = No divorce.
So if the employee is sleeping with the wife, forget his inability to work. The boss should remind himself that divorces are costly and this employee is saving him 50% of his life earnings! That is a great employee!!!!
You have an amazing memory. You've managed to remember every single Dilbert comic strip since 1995 (or beyond). You then picked the one most relevant to this article. You should be the one getting the mini-van!
The same weapons that are available to the police (and militairies) are generally available to the public.
There's only a certain amount of abuse you can hand to the general public at any protest or mass gathering. There's usually more protesters present than there are police. It wouldn't surprise me, if at some point the crowd turns on the police. Its only going to lead to serious injury and/or death. I'm surprised and glad that there has been restraint by the public.
We need a better system in place. Lethal and less than lethal choices are hardly within society's long-term interests and only lead down a dark path.
Don't tell that to the defense contractor. To the sales person who sold it, it is a revolutionary platform of intelligence gathering on super-sensitive and superior high-technology....... blah diddy blah blah blah
The great American companies complaining about IP problems are happily headquarted in tax safe havens. They get the protections of American law and Washington policymakers while paying a minimal amount of tax to the American government.
There's quite a bit of tech in these drones that I would hope doesn't get into enemy hands. I'd hope that there's a destruct capability that will blow all the sensitive innards of the plane to smithereens before it gets into enemy hands.
Better suggestion.
Eat microbes. Have sushi. Fill up your car with ehanol!!
That's right man! You can finally stick it to the oil companies by taking a piss in your fuel tank.

Karma: Bad (mostly from not giving a fuck)
"Want bad Karma? Then don't give a fuck!"
Sorry had to ... !!!! ;)

Pfft. defeating SOPA is easy.
1. Become the US Attorney General.
2. Run your own root DNS server
???
4. Profit!!
Now, that wasn't too hard.
This was avoidable if proper protocols were followed.

Yeah but are these things safe for the eyes if exposed? Or are they as "safe" as they led the public to believe the body scanners at US airports?
Don't tell that to the defense contractor. To the sales person who sold it, it is a revolutionary platform of intelligence gathering on super-sensitive and superior high-technology ....... blah diddy blah blah blah
"What do you call it when several helicopters full of navy seals are sent into a foreign nation to kidnap or kill an individual who is living there"
Simple. You were lost and looking for the right directions!
The system would crash - too much work.
Hey, this camera can be put to good use! Use it to film another great Star Wars movie.
Well,if that's the case, here's a handy summary of what the article means.
USA > Safe from alien invasion.
Rest of World > Fucked!
I own one! There are 4 other users?
