Actually, their unions are called "corporations" and the "stock market". They allow capital to organize itself. Which means that it's only reasonable to allow labor to organize itself as well, right?
It's beacause of the increased wages that companies can't compete.
Yeah, right. Like another poster said, they pay their executives pretty damn well, for much less work. Can't compete? Whatever. They're just pissed because they can't pump the stock price quite as high.
This is similar to the argument that an increase in minimum wage will just increase inflation, because companies will raise their prices to compensate. This link shows that this is not true: every time the minimum wage has been raised, inflation only went up by 1-2%, and sometimes even reversed. The reason is simple: sure a company could just raise their prices, but their competitors could just as easily stand pat and steal all those extra customers. So the companies leave their prices alone.
Where does the extra money to pay the workers come from? Why, the profit margin of course. Which is exactly why the cheap labor conservatives don't want anything that could increase wages for the workers.
DBZ is as streched out as it is because it was based on a manga (comic book) at the same time the manga was being written and published. Problem was, you only need to fill something like 26 pages (I think) in a manga, but 20-25 minutes in an anime. So, things were streched out (quite a bit) so they wouldn't overtake the manga.
Plus several episodes are "filler", in that they never happened in the original manga, and the anime writers had some time to fill.
What, you think that the people with Dubya's ear don't gain from this? Outsourcing ensures that everyone will work cheaper, which means the cheap labor conservatives on top get to keep even _more_ of the profits from our toil.
What an odd way of looking at the world. Another way of looking at it would be - "I need less money because the things I buy are less expensive."
You rent won't go down, nor will the tax on your house (if you own). The price of food is propped up by tariffs, and the price of oil and therefore electricity will keep going up. But it's ok, since you have cheaper widgets, which you can't buy because a larger and larger percentage of your paycheck will be eaten up by the above.
It's our voting system: "First Past the Post" means that, since you can only vote for one person, you've got to vote for the one with at least a snowball's chance in hell of actually winning, otherwise you might as well not vote.
Support "Approval Voting": it's the best compromise between simplicity and fairness in voting methods.
The big problem is that the constitution doesn't recognize money as a form of power.
And unfortunately, the Supreme Court has ruled that money is a form of speech, making it so much harder to make any meaningful campaign finance reform.
What is it about being American that makes you a better choice for a job?
Because we're talking about H1B visas. The whole idea is that they are for circumstances where the people with the required skills don't exist in the US, not that they're not cheap enough for the employer's taste.
I would work a tech job for the money I'm making now, just because it's something I'm interested in. The high salary isn't necessary.
But you're right, tech jobs are all but gone, but it hasn't sunk in with most people. I've had people see my resume at IT job fairs (packed with job seekers, of course) saying I shouldn't have any trouble getting a job (MS in CS, no professional experience). And these are the type of people who should know just how bad it is out there.
Masters degree isn't enough to get you a job in the IT industry. I have one, and I can't even get a rejection letter, let alone an interview.

Sure they're centrist, if to the left is Buccanan, and to the right is Hitler.

It's called "Artifical Supply Shortage".
Oh yeah, pure capitalism is the answer, if the question is, "Should be return to the state of things in the Great Depression?"
Helen Lovejoy?

What's the saying? Never cost anyone more than it would cost to have you killed :)
He isn't saying that we should teach our kids to attack someone for the smallest slight, just to fight back when attacked. Big difference.
