With a population of 2 billion people. China is a 200lb gorilla, and everyone knows it. If China, with rest of Asia went 'standard' or 'non-standard', whatever they choose- with that much weight to throw around- it will become a STANDARD. Intel and M$ knows this and are warning off.
In the short-term it may be good for Asia, in the long-term it will be good for Asia, because instead of Asian companies trying to be compatible with US/European standards, it will be the other way around.
Even with a measily 10% of population using computers in China (if in the future that should happen), it would larger then the WHOLE U.S. population.

    200lb gorilla indeed.

  7. Re:Space... on Top 10 Reasons for a Space Program · · Score: 2, Interesting

Actually, they can't do this. Cause the companies that can afford and have the technology to exploit space are large companies. These companies have acquired their knowledge through government (military) contracts. Because of this the U.S. government forbids them to do certain things, ie export satellite and rocket launch technology to foreign contries. Because what is used to send a satellite into space can be refined and used to drop a bomb back down.
I think you all remember the big hoopla awhile back where a US satellite company was reprimanded for sharing rocket info with the Chinese. Essentially they left their satellite and last stage components in Chinese warehouses and the Chinese took it apart and rebuilt it.. thereby learning its secrets. And the company did this because their satellites were exploding during last state seperation on Chinese rockets. This led the ban of US companies launching satellites on Chinese Rockets. And the the new practice of not shipping satellites until right before launch.

intonation is different from tone. intonation is emphasis on certain letters or parts of syllables. Tone is what you are used to in expressing emotion. And Chinese is very contextual, because accents will affect intonation, so you have to understand the context of the spoken language. And in Chinese some words can have the same pronounciation and same intonation yet have different meanings.. context!
