Our linux community really needs something as FUBAR proof as microsoft's start menu icon that says autoupdate...or better yet a background app that does it all for us. Gentoo is a start, but not the end.

This is a journey we are on, we have a lot of different starting points, but the thing we need to keep in mind is that we all need to reach the same destination at the same time with package managment. *Nix acceptance and usability will be greatly enhanced by having a stand alone, all encompassing package manager.

How is admitting that firefox has a following because it at lease 'seems' to be fast, featureful, and trouble free - and lets not mistake the issue here. All browsers, regardless of your personal philosophy, need to be measured against Microsofts Internet Explorer. Firefox is the only one, as a browser, to beat it in the performance category. Other netscape derived projects are excellent, but still 'seem' inherantly buggy and slow - their featureset is better than IE or even firefox...but they are still slow to render, and buggy. I was simply asking on the forum the other day if anybody was shipping with firefox since it is near full release quality now. Flame me all you want you half-wit moderating trash eaters.

Really, do you expect morons(aka users) to install a separate browser that doesn't suck and doesn't take all day long to render a screen? This has been a long time in coming. Hopefully now that there seems to be some Distro-wide acceptance, use will spread to other distros. Kudos to the Firefox team. You guys make a great product. Keep it up.

About the antennae voltage post...holy crap...do you have an exposed metal end on the tip of your cellphone...just like a spark plug? No. It is wrapped in plastic, which I'm pretty sure is there to prevent sparking and increase durability. Indeed, a cellphone that exploded at gas stations is probably not very durable.

I feel these things about the computer systems that I build, and I appreciate the feeling. I also have a fetish for flying, and joined the Air Force to enjoy aircraft and being around them...even though my job is with computers.

Still, it stands out to me...I would not trust anything that I built to fly my ass down to the other end of the state...let alone over something as barren and deadly as the north/south poles.

It certainly takes a special kind of person to look at the plane that he built and say to himself "Yes, technically it can perform this task." and completely ignore the other voice in his soul saying "Although perhaps I should not force my luck."

I love flying, I really do. I love fixing aircraft and flying them. I also know not to try to fly over the damn south pole, north pole, or anywhere else that I might die in...assuming that I survive that 1 in 1,000,000,000 flight hours crash.

My gosh son. There is a reason that only military aircraft regularly fly over antarctica. Its because if it goes down...supposedly they can send another one...and...those people signed up to die in the service of their country.
