1) obviously you have to suspend a little bit here cause people HATE no sound in space. I dont mind honestly but a lot of people do dislike it. And the thuds where from the POV from inside the craft so you would hear that (like how when there was the thud on the ISS they thought something hit it)
2)actually I thought there was a huge lack of stars which I LOVED. honestly there where points where i couldnt tell if they where moving or not because there was no reference point which is much more spacelike since in space, you dont have reference points most of the time.
3) robo cam... wait they got rid of robots, heck beats me, who cares its a TV show:-D
I btw loved it, liked it a LOT more than the original which i still like to watch but is so cheeze
no it isnt evaloution when it was force on by NA's, which if you look it up is exactly what happened. the original plant was cross bred to try to make a better plant and corn was the result.
and if you look up cross breeding it IS genetic engineering. Stop saying it isnt cause it is and i will mail you evey genetics textbook in existance to prove to you it is.
CROSS BREADING = GENETIC ENGINEERING you are manipulating the genes of the plant just as selective breeding in humans is genetic engineering, yes we may have done it for thousands of years, but its genetic engineering.
horizontal gene transfer, can happen but can only happen with bacteria. Never know to happen with humans. I looked it up dude, and other than anti-GE sites that say it can happen in humans and animals, any education site says it can ONLY happen in bacteria.
Lots and lots of things have gone wrong before because of human manipulations of nature for short-sighted gains. Ok this is true, but many times the manipulation was because chemicals introduced by humans. I dont need to site its safe, fellow slashdot users in this reply thread have already proven that the anti-GE'rs are dead wrong and spouting the same falce facts about how the earth works that the enviromentalists have spouted for years about our ozone layer (ie re really dont have as much affect as we say we do, ozone depleation and greenhouse effect happenes alll the time which is why we have ice ages)
oh and its easy to see why we need more food... go to china, live there have your 2 or 3rd born killed because your not allowed to have them cause there is not enough food to go around, go to india, see we already HAVE the problem, you spout about human rights yet you basically saying you have no problem having these people die of famin.
We have done shit to this planet, like I said we are ignorent to think we have had any effect, since any scientific study shows this isnt the first time, and that the earth just goes ahead and purges its self, hence the shrinking of the iicecapss which floods the ocean then with a imbalence of water to land the earth grows cold shrinking the oceans into ice and causeing a
DRUM ROLL PLEASE
ICE AGE!!!!!!!
Its happen at least 5 times before
it happened as recent as 200 years ago
We survived, and the earth did to.
Read a REAL science book next time before you try to tell me humans have the cosmic effect we do, cause we dont, sure we might speed thing up a bit but the earth will always win in the end.
hmmm i dont know if you have your facts straight, only 2 spacecraft have missed the moon that i know of and one one was from the US, and all but one of the space probes that went splat, as you call it, went splat becuase they where purposely testing the soil content of the moon and how much dust there really was... remeber we thought there was a huge layer of dust on the surface.
And its been well documented the icompetence of NASA managers in recent years, you could even go to B&N and pick up the NASA investigation reports of Challanger and Columbia, which where both problems that where agervated by managers not listening to the engineers. the crew running NASA now are not the same as the crew who got us to the moon, which is a shame.
eh California is one big jump on the bandwagon of the month Beowolf cluster...
Like so many on/. have said before, Maynard said it best!!!!
"I sure could use a vacation from this bullshit three ring circus sideshow of Freaks here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA The only way to fix it is to flush it all away. Any fucking time. Any fucking day. Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay."
open up a genetics book and you would see the selective breeding IS a form of genetic engeneering albiet a much less efective method of engeneering compaired to DNA and RNA manipulation.. but Genetic engeneering all the same, hence how corn is actually a genetically engeneered plant.
Enviromental groups constantly try to say that combining rice strains and such isnt genetic engineering, and thats bull, any time you force a plant to mate with another plant, like species or not and mutate it to a new form which it wasnt before, your manipulating the genetic traits of said species. Selective breeding or gene manipulation under a microscope its the EXACT SAME THING DONE ON A DIFFERENT SCALE.
Take my example of corn, there was no such plant in early times, food anthropologists would show you that corn did not exist untill cross polination by two totally unrelated species of plants mutated a speed just right to produce corn. Here we have an example or unlike species (granted both plants) which naturally mutated into a new plant.
AKA natural genetic engineering
And as time and again anyone who sat through a biology class would know, DNA can not pass from food to the animal. We dont take on genetic traits of what we just ate. So if we are engineering these foods to yield more, be more nutritious, grow in areas that are too harsh to grow it, etc. explain to me how it will harm us? Explain what possible can happen? its genetics not chemical! I would rather eat a ganatically engineered apple than one thats been grown using chemicals.
as for benifitial genetic engeneering in plants

and as for your glowing freaking fish I would like to see someone try to eat a aquarium fish, heck they can eat my tetras right now, since thats all your glowing fish are tropical aquarium fish.
a) without genetic engeneering there is no way enough food could be made population growth would prevent it. Even with genetic engeneering we still have foodsotree problems and if you actually look and production to population growth genetic engeneering saved us from a horrable famine.
b genetically engeneered rice has saved millions in africa and the middle east by allowing them to get needed nutrition in a cheap foodstuff.
c) i would like you to keep half the vegitables you eat without those added peservitives, better yet I would like you to spend as much money you do now, and get the same amount. Its a fact that organic food spoil faster, cost more to produce since less food from farms make it to your table when they arn't treated, and are actually less nutritous.
you try to prove to me it would be harmful, since hundreds of studies have proven enviromentalists are full of shit when it comes to genetically engeneered foodstuffs. We know for a fact you cant transfer genes through food, so if the food proves to provide more for humans in nutriton and in abundance and has shown time and again it wont be harmful to humans or other plants then what are you afraid of.
You may not want to eat genetically engeneered food, but I do and you have no right to tell me what I'm allowed and not allowed to do to my body.
Shit you could take it one step further and talk about the fact that studies like these havent started untill the 1940- and up, we can guess at the past from data gained from soil samples and stuff, but we dont know how true the year to year fluctuations are in comparison to decade and century fluctuations
My favorite story was when they came to the conclusion that the giant hole in the ozone layer in antartica has always been there and actually gets smaller and larger over the course of the year. boy where enviromentalists pissed about that one cause the hole was like their smoking gun.
cause then i would probably not be able to have corn since it was genetically engeneered by early people (acourding to Good Eats food anthropoligist, gotta love that show)
see I hate the whole stigma of genetic engeneering and the media's total disregard to what genetic engeneering actually is.
Most cases your not designer gene'n the thing your engeneering but just doing whats akin to selective breeding, or forced breeding.
In the case of corn it was a cross polination mutation between different wheats that created it.
OK granted in this case we do have a fish that was changed in a lab and not cross breed or anything of that nature, BUT really whats so wrong with a aquarium kept tropical fish that glows? If you want to look at it like that then all fancy guppies and bettas should be banned cause none of them are wild specimines but actually selectively breed to create pretty colors and paterns.
Another example is one my Adviser loves to bring up, organic shit sucks. We honestly would never be able to sustain life the way we do because the yields would be so much lower people could potentially die from starvation.
Growing up in Penn he saw how non-chemically treated "non-genetically engeneered" foodstuffs where constantly low in yield and bug filled compaired to other foods, particularly in the Amish community.
In conclusion it just bugs me that genetic engeneering has this big no no stigma put on it thats just as false as the old "Concorde will give you cancer if it flies supersonic over your house" belief. "or even todays ozone layer slashdot story. Grassroots protests with not a shread of scientific fact to back them up, but plenty of publiciity
actually I too have a 486 DX2. I ALSO have a SE 30 still running as a email server and a 6400 which runs as our main computer at our shore house.
And since I just upgraded a B/W G3 (thats a 1999 computer) to a 600mhz G4 (yes I know technically your not supposed to get the chip that fast on a B/W, I dont know why its running at 600mhz cuase i set the jumpers for 500 but it is and I have replaced the fans and put one extra one in so its running cool) with 1gig of RAM and a Rage 7000 (since its a pre AGP computer) which is running OS X.3 perfectly fine and replaced my girlfriends P2 which was crashing on a regular basis whenever she tried to put new software in for her palm or for school, I feel very strongly that you do not know what you are talking about
yes if Apple had not bought NeXT odds where good that it would be dead right now.
Though it is a myth that PC Hardware costs much less than Apples. Sure I can get a much cheaper PC but in comparison to a low end Mac, your more likely to hold onto the low end mac a lot longer before it becomes obsolete (in comparison to a PC which need at least some upgrade every year or two)
And no build it yourself PC's dont count. Im talking in the relm of normal people.
As for the hardware fixes with Jobs, Im sure there where plans before he became iCEO (my favorite job title of the 90's!!! ) when he was just a board member, but im sure he was behind them.
In term of product line you can easily see that he had something up his sleave in the plight of the G3 all in one (which i think was on sale all of 3 months before it was pulled and the iMac came out.) It was obvious that it was not in Job's plan, just as anyone in Apple can tell you the story of the iMac and how NO ONE knew about it, even the people designing it.
now as for them losing their key market segment... after seeing how freaking slow Graphic Designers are to change firsthand with everyone waiting for the pile of shit named Quark when a much more superior product is out there almost two years in advance, even if Apple was dead im sure printhouses would hold onto their 7200's

I cut the rest cause it was info on fixing my first gen PS2 but theres the story from the horses mouth, there is no release date so we may very well not even get it, or get the full version as planned by then.
that the list reads like the same list they had for moon landing, except we where both
A) pushed to do a moon landing
B) came up with much better solutions than the quacks running nasa came up with (and I mean the clueless managers, cause im sure there are much better ways to land that the managers nixed cause of cost.)
What it boils down to though is that the additude in Nasa now has to change before we do anything about going to mars. Its not the same one as was around durring the 60's Nasa has become bloated and stagnant. Truth be told, I almost hope the chineese do it first, because at least they get the point of space exploration now.
That was body wars, iit was sorta a replacement for the innerspace ride, but was at epcot. First ride to use a flight simulator machine if I am correct.
The other one was at MGM and that was Star Tours, where you accidentally got sucked into the first battle over the death star. Pretty cool and it had R2D2 and C3PO, thought it fuges with the history of the movie... course Lucas doesnt mind since he out and out tossed it out a few years later with the special editions:-D.
What amazed me is there is nothing on the Thousand Leagues under the Sea ride which i was on when i was 7 but when I went back in 1998 was closed due to it no being able to be made handicap accesable, which pissed me off to no end cause it was one of my favorites along with Mr. Toads
I ALSO like Xenosaga, Dragon Warrior, and other RPG's.
Im not buying it cause its Final Fantasy, I could give a rats ass, Im buying it cause I love the RPG genire and square does put out a good game even if some people cant stand them.
And having played Smash brothers, I HIGHLY doubt the game would rock if it wherent Nintendo characters. The charm and reason I love playing that game is the pure fact I can beat the shit out of other characters with my favorite character. It would be every other generic run of the mill fighting game with a few cool bonus levels thrown in if it wherent for the fact it allows you to play as your favorite nintendo character. Maybe very fun, but not nearly as much as it is as it is now.
Also Acclain if I am not mistaken tried to sell a game that was sexual exlpicit (BMXXX) but not bloody..... It TANKED. Maybe the reson they market so many violent games is because, well, we are addicted to violence (we in the collective sense, I could do without most of it) Even after getting trashed for night stalker, and getting trashed for columbine, not once did violent game sales go down. They see that message as hey people dont care they like violence. Only if the audience changes will the marketting change
no jackass, its a exploit only if certain things happen, in this case, if you knew how OS X worked, it actually IS a product of its features (ability to have your computer be self aware of the network then set the settings on the fly after plugging in, ie no going through a windows like setup applet)
In most windows cases its because code wasnt wiped or was left in that should have been taken out over the evolution (like windows messanger) here this was ACTUALLY coded to do this, which is why there is a gui window to unset the settings that isnt too hard to find, (just launch netsat and there you are) if you wanted to. Someone just found that if you put a rouge computer on the network and had the skills and knowhow to do it, you could hack in.
IE YOU HAVE TO BE PRESENT AND ON SAID LAN TO HACK IT.
And honestly I could think of MANY easier ways to hack a LAN than use this exploit if I can actually get physical access to the LAN.
Honestly the problem with Microsoft isnt just their security holes for ease of use (cause there are quite a few that arnt becuase of ease of use.) Its one of those things with them where their consumer should be ease of use while their buisness shouldnt.
ACTUALLY thats a argument both OS X and Windows should have. Consumer its understandable, but buisness (ie server class software,) you should be hireing people who know better, and likewise wouldnt need it to be checked on. Sure it makes it a few minutes less timewise for a tech, BUT it also allows joe anyone to say they are a tech and look like it, but not know how to patch up this hole like someone who knows better would.
I DO have a problem with everyone put what is the worst OS ever for embedded systems in EVERYTHING
TO ALL THOSE CLUELESS BUISNESS CEO'S AND MANAGERS OUT THERE!!!!!!!
WINDOWS IS NOT I REPEAT NOT A OS THAT BELONGS ANYWHERE BUT ON A CONSUMER COMPUTER.
get yourself a good coder and put Linux, or Unix in there, but DO NOT put WINDOWS, MAC OS, or any other consumer OS EVER near something that doesnt need it.
why would you EVER want to spend money on SCO, no thank you common schoolyard grade rocks are perfectly fine for putting nasty bumps and gashes on those assholes heads.
1) Apple charges 99.00 NOT 250.00 for the replacement, and you could go to like portable batteries or some other place and get third party ones for 49.00
2) I have an original 5 gig, and the batteries have yet to wear out, and my normal use is about 3-4 times a week.
honestly any time you have a embeded battery system, your going to have burnout trouble. It was less than a year when my rommies iomega MP3 player burned the battery. His was much easier to replace than the iPods but it still cost him like 79 bucks
you know cause that could be hatefull too.
1) obviously you have to suspend a little bit here cause people HATE no sound in space. I dont mind honestly but a lot of people do dislike it. And the thuds where from the POV from inside the craft so you would hear that (like how when there was the thud on the ISS they thought something hit it) 2)actually I thought there was a huge lack of stars which I LOVED. honestly there where points where i couldnt tell if they where moving or not because there was no reference point which is much more spacelike since in space, you dont have reference points most of the time. 3) robo cam... wait they got rid of robots, heck beats me, who cares its a TV show :-D

We can win, just not yet, we need to stem the tide against us first.
It's politics, so we need to get the most politically minded geeks to our cause
