How sad is it, though, that you conceived the notion of selling objects in the known universe, as if interstellar conquest and ownership is the purview of single organisms on one of many planets in one of billions and billions galaxies.:) -- Laugh, it's funny.
Channeling Dinesh D'Souza eh? Because the Hoover Institution is totally the place to get neutral information. At least you're reading the news; that's a start on your way to the truth, but you need to be careful about who you get your information from.
There's a difference between religious people killing other people over religious disagreements (Inquisition, witch trials, etc.) and non-religious people killing people over things that aren't religion.
I hope you have a barn for all that straw.
You could use a bluetooth cellphone such that when you are no longer proximal and the device is dropped, it can lock the computer. Sailing Clicker has a trick like that for the screen saver and sleep - "sleep when I walk away" or "lock screen when I walk away"
Well, for some clarification, you can get a bit of a deal when you buy the whole album, usually $9.99, to make it cheaper than physical media. Similarly, if they were for some reason to have those strange sound effects CDs with 300 tracks on them, they'd still probably give you the whole set of tracks for 9.99.
The thing that bugs me the most is that the rumor sites like Think Secret have people who will report from within the convention center. Given that there will be no stream, the rumor sites will be the only game in town, and in fact, be rewarded for the mass inconvenience they caused for everyone else.
I think that if Think Secret is ultimately responsible for this buy posting illegally obtained information (generally, there is a difference between protecting sources because of fear of physical retribution and protecting sources because they are obviously breaking the law), then TS should be punished. Like, advertisers should realize the kind of scum they are and pull their ads from the site. Sort of like how Bill Maher's show was cancelled at the peak of its ratings because the ads pulled out...
Why audio reports? WeatherPop is pretty nice for weather reports and goes up by the clock, http://www.glu.com/products/weatherpop/ - I think they have a freeware version but that might not have the forecasts, maybe just the current weather. Anyway, might be worth a look.
I know a lot of folks like to pirate games, and I'm not going to pass judgment there. But one note is that Mac games companies need volume to succeed and to want to port games. If you are going to run a game on a Mac, please reward the publisher for their work, so that the publishers do not go out of business or start producing shoddy work. Similarly, when you buy a printer or whatever, make sure to send in the registration card (even if you fake the address, etc.) so that they know that Mac users do buy the hardware, to keep development of drivers active. Samsung was pretty surprised when a lot of people freaked out when they said they weren't going to make drivers for 10.4, thinking nobody used their kit... (I am still begging them to reconsider...)
While I was interning there this summer, we had a pretty big power outage, lasting maybe 30 minutes. A bunch of people were pissed about some lost work and productivity, but then it dawned on us.... Having all the developers lose power was the best test of the filesystem we could have ever asked for!
FireFox is the default browser now. We have some new more studious admin people, but yeah, the Suns were just generally a bad idea. Another student and I have been helping them with the Mac thing, and now 4/5 of the IT people have Macs of some sort, so I think it will be smooth sailing.
I'll be TAing a class for IST using the G5 lab. That should be fun...:)
We're getting a G5 lab, so you will soon be happy:) I believe IST is also.
I didn't realize they hit you that bad on the equipment; I guess that's one of the benefits to being a grad student, not having to pay and all. That said, most of our stuff is from grants and whatnot.
Point taken. How much are the lesser products like the Dell DJ? Does the same metaphor apply, or does Dell eat a little bit to make the product more appealing in your market?
It's clearly time to visit the US and smuggle some back.
No, the 15 Gb iPod is 349 euros which is 434.68 US. Which is less than half of your "$1000 for 1 15 Gb iPod" figure. In fact, that last sentence seemed pretty odd when your other assertion was "or more than $500." I'm confused... I still grant you, though, that the iPods are more expensive in Euros by about 45%, but I am pretty sure that Apple did not influence your country's tax laws.
I just finished my master's in CSE there -- I know that some folks are interested in getting an Xserve cluster. Paul Plassman and Webb Miller in the dept are pretty interested in the Apple offerings... Also, all of the TAs carry PowerBooks. Apple's doing a good job with PSU... And now I am working at Apple:)
That is to say, I wonder if anyone owns the earth, and when they're coming to pick it up...

Fedora Core 6? What's that? I'm not really into Pokémon.

That policy changed this year. See http://www.apple.com/environment/recycling/
Jokes on you.
Seen http://www.apple.com/imac/isight.html?

http://www.apple.com/legal/sla/ - you can read that before you buy the programs.
Indeed, he said "call centre." A redneck wouldn't be able to spell "call."
As I've said in my debugging code for years, 0xDECAFBAD
Bush uses a Mac, as does Rush Limbaugh.

Nah, we already know it will keep working.
Hi Adam :) I'm missing doing productive work over there... Now I am in class being unproductive.

Actually, sex is a vice if you're doing it right.
It's like the old "Do you think sex is dirty? Only if you're doing it right."
