Having just travelled with a Korean I can tell you that they can return ANYTHING.
That is the korean product success story. ANYTHING can be returned, bought in on the internet they'll pay to ship it back to them. Don't know if this only applies to Korean's but it seems to work.
I've seen my friend get so pissed because a product didn't do what it said it would, I was like chill out happens all the time. They have an amazing system.
Most of your comments about the U.S. I agree with completely.
But the U.S. does have a point that recently it has represented the west and traditionally the west has made the quality of life better for the rest of the world.
Here's an example, when Europeans came to North America they brought matches, you could trade a box of matches for 3 slaves.
That sounds terrible but really when you think about all the people who won't need to die because their fire went out and there is no lightning around it makes sense.
The production of information does make the quality of life in all parts of the world better, it's just that recently developments in the states are making the rest of the worlds quality of life better than that in the states.
It's simple we should treat the U.S. as a giant inefficient brain trust based on a terrible economic model and basically leave them developing tech until some political ideologist comes out with a better system. Then we can say "Hey we've been stealing your shit all along but now we're gonna do it in the open, no more money, ever again." But until that time. Yes I'll pay blockbuster $6 to rent a movie I'd be glad too:)
Um should the government's health care department pay taxes?
Then why should their propaganda department?
Offer these guys a little gratitude they won the cold war for us. Now russians can save up to buy nike's made in China from the U.S. that god for justice.
The thing about this is the Canadian government is commited to transparency to a far greater extent than any government I've heard of before. If you authorize a questionable contract you can expect the canadian public to track you closely.
Canadian politicians make far less than other politicians ($150,000 aprox for an mp, $100,000 for an mpp). They theoretically do it because they love our country. But they have denied technological transparency, such as streaming their day onto the internet or allowing their meetings to be tracked on the internet, which seems pretty suspicious to me. I have no problems with totally free information (I think people will get bored of watching pamela anderson [note:she's canadian] showering after a few days) and use the information practically.
However I think the first step towards removing privacy is for the government to do it, as public servants it's almost their responsability.
Think what you can learn just by talking to an elderly person now imagine being able to watch their whole life.
Got a bit off topic but basically the Canadian government is allowing businesses to collect information in one area while a perfect group for testing and transparancy goes ignored.
I can't say "shame on the Canadian Government" for not implementing it, because it's a new conecpt and there are emotional reservations but I really think allowing the retail sector to do it first is terrible.
The advertising for these products in the states is completely tasteless and derogitory towards women.
These ads were increadibly offensive. I'm not increadibly sensitive about women's rights (they make up 50% of the world they can better their own lot bwahhahahaha, well not really.)
Just so some people don't misunderstand that you are insulting products for feminine hygine based on sexism.
"Nintendo representatives have publically stated they think it would be neat if there were a DS web browser that used the DS's built-in wireless ethernet to connect to the internet; however this does not mean that such a browser will ever actually occur, to my knowlege they've said nothing whatsoever about internet voice chat."
And then there was sourceforge, and (deity:God, Allah, Buddha, Linus) said "Holy crap it's good!"
Well since major cities are putting wireless on subways airplanes are adding it as a free feature and pretty soon every mcdonalds and starbucks will have free wireless let alone just about every networked house (Recent security issues are balony) it will basically mean free phone to anyone.
Not a big deal for those with a cell phone but for those who realize that cell phones are ridiculously expensive this is a godsend.
Once this takes off it will have software to quickly switch between hotspots and use cell capability in between (Cell networks are basically wireless anyway).
It just brings the cost down and makes wireless more attractive which is a good thing for everyone.
There will be free servers, it's just a matter of time.
Pretty soon the only connecion you will have to pay for is high speed net access at home.
Voice recognition control of home pc with amazing interface and keeps text documents including voice samples for every conversation of the day.
Voip support.
Intelligent friend tracking software linked to gps in other people's palm thingies.
Video output to display movies on friends computer's and TV's.
Signal analyser for cables and wifi signals, (digital and analogue).
Card scanner with connection to my bank account for easy money transfers with atm technology.
Scanner for those pesky text documents.
All of this is available tech (except a decent signal analyser?) it's just not user friendly yet. Simple. Make life easy record and be unobtrusive, (there really is no reason for a handheld when you can get text to voice programs of the calibre we have now adays.
Would seem to me the server could have a secret hash code and use it on data that turned out to be invalid and ban based on it but more security is always a pain in the ass...
Anyone seen any evidence of this or heard anything about it happening in the future?
Microsoft is after the holy grail just like every other programmer, an operating system that can stand the test of time.
Sure quantum computing might bring a change that renders the bit a useless form but baring that it should be possible if others follow your compatibility instructions.
I can't see my grandkids or even me in 3 years running xp so of course they are going to upgrade.
Regardless of whether profit comes into it they are working on a solution, sure the specs are high, they need to support tonnes of stuff and a level of backwards compatability which is absurd, developers with closed code who don't even mention that they are developing for the OS.
Even with these obstacles MS does have the power of universal compatability on their side, developers are very likely to consider a MS port when they start writting code.
So let's stop complaining and hope it's good, if it's not there's plenty of time to not switch.
Doesn't a competitive advantage have more to do with an actual advantage? Such as infrastructure, beter climate, or natural resources?
Really the "They are cheaper arguement" doesn't make much sense at all if it's simply taken to mean they can do it cheaper.
That being said having been to a few countries which recieved the benefit of massive outsourcing (Korea, China, Singepore) I do support it, it DOES build economies though we may complain bitterly about the short term effect on our ecconomy.
I think many westerners justify their quality of life and financial success (which have doubtless been accomplished at least to some extent through outsourcing labour to cheaper nations) to the production of media and intellectual idea's which we (justifiably?) feel help all of humanity and could not be accomplished by more impovrished peoples.
Ties to GPS (location based automation coupled with city map's which can be used for activity for example if he's in a house is it a friends house I.E. party or grandma's?) and a smart solution for determining when you are interested someone is nearby and what they are doing.
When they switch over to fibre optic backed by last mile wireless there will be 10x the reliability of phone lines. You will have 4-5 devices capable of making a phone call or police connection and the central infrastructure will be more secure than ever.

Make them unusable in North America (64k cache anyone hmm?)
It's dirty when supply has nothing to do with cost...
In Canada someone's income and spending is a closely guarded secret.
But you can give your credit card and debit records for the last 20 years to each girlfriend, potential employer, and investor if you want.

Normally no but the chinese will do it and we will buy from Ebay simple.
There is no government agency in charge of maintaining non-compliance or backwards features.
walk away from the wifi spot... unfortunatly.
Wifi has high battery usage people won't expect you to be connected very often. Whole thing will probably use voice mail mostly.
True but all you need is something to dynamically monitor I.P. Addy's and distribute that info intelligently.
May I suggest ICQ?
Um do you play games on the internet? Other people do.
We can play any time if we don't care who we play with.

um headset. Pocket problem solved.
Though this might bring us some of that good old fashioned video phone lovin' remember even the orignal gameboy came with a camera.

Until someone offers a free server and someone hacks the software?

Who cares what the dummies get the goods will be on
Meh, maybe they'll burn some of that Ether I hear is floating around.
Teach them how to find that thingie where it initializes code isomething.d it's somewhere in some bin folder.
Then they can mount stuff and um network and stuff.
Why are you teaching them linux again?

20 won (2 cents)
Can they now use this to break bittorrent?
Would seem to me the server could have a secret hash code and use it on data that turned out to be invalid and ban based on it but more security is always a pain in the ass...

Dude they are distributing the key and the encrypted program.
Plus it's increadibly large and as encrypted files become larger they become geometrically easier to break. So really this is gonna be a simple one.

Chinese Vietnamese and Thai chopshops use -R. It is cheaper and more compatible with old DVD players.
This dual layer stuff is bunk...
If you got a 8 gig Movie then re-encode bam it's a 1 gig Xvid problem solved... get like an xbox or pc to play it.
