    It's true. Chicks dig scars. Since scars help you to determine the guys who are more accident prone, they're an ideal way to determine if a guy will make a good choice for a Starter Husband.

    You don't want the first one to last TOO long since you'll be making most of your uneducated mistakes with him, so guys with scars are an excellent choice. Plus, they're more likely to die in some tragic, yet totally accidental, way that will be ideal for the huge insurance policies she's no doubt taken out him.

    Because then someone will want to make is sound faster and switch them all to "Medium", "Large", and "Supersized".

    I can't recall where I read it (probably in my well-worn copy of the third edition), but I've heard it's a shout-out to the open-source version of JavaScript for Java, Rhino.

    So let me understand. I pay a rental fee price for a DVD, then 2 days later the DVD stops working and I chuck it? Cool.

    I'll never pay another late fee, but I'll still have to rent a movie twice sometimes because I couldn't watch it before my time was up. Still cheaper.

    Didn't Blockbuster make most of their money in late fees? Hmm...sounds like technology they'll hate to see in use.

    We have computers and scanner thingies all over. Why aren't we moving toward digital cash? I use my debit card for almost everything already, it wouldn't be that much different to have "cash machines" dispense cards like Metro cards.

    This would also have the added benefit of anyone smart enough to hack it having more money...I think that's fair.

    I frequently get marketing calls for my grandfather, and I've found that the BEST response is:
    "I'm sorry, he's dead. Can I take a message?"

    They very rarely leave messages, although one or two have asked when would be a better time call back.

    I say we overthrow this crap! Then we could write some very simple rules that even the narrowest minds can grasp.
    1. Don't kill anyone unless they're trying to kill you. Even then, aim to disable or maim.
    2. Don't hurt/damage anyone unless they're trying to hurt/damage you (or that person has asked nicely).
    3. Don't lie / cheat / steal.
    4. Don't screw with other people's stuff without permission.
    5. Don't have sex with children. (Unless you ARE a child...then make sure there's less than a 2 year age difference). (Under 18 = Children)
    6. Everybody pays the same percent in taxes, or works to maintain our stuff if they can't afford it.
    7. Don't piss people off on purpose.
    8. Ignore things that other people do that piss you off unless they break these rules.
    Obviously, this needs fine tuning. I think I covered the major issues though: Life, Property, Sex, Taxes, and Free Speech. Let's not have the same morons that are fine tuning the rest of our stuff do it though.

    Dammit, if I was in charge....well, we'd really be in for it, but we could do it wirelessly.

    The problem is figuring out how to make it multilingual.

    If you actually need it to be multilingual, you probably ARE multilingual. Problem solved!

    However, if you're someone (like me) who only knows enough of any other language to order beer, what good will it do you if you can't communicate with that person in a language you both understand? (assuming Babelfish-type translations are inadequate).

    But besides all that...do you really need email from a person who can't figure out "put this character in the box" regardless of the language the instructions are in?

    I upgrade when my family starts bitching about how slow their second-hand computers are. They get the old for cheap, and I get a decent hand at paying for the new.

    My dad says "The slowest part of this computer is me. Can you upgrade me instead?"

    Surprisingly, this works out about the same. P1 133 to P2 350 to P3 1000 to a shiny new P4 2400 just two days ago! I tried to find the perfect Asus board (Always Asus! Always!) for an AMD this time, but I'm too damned picky....I wanted the new 533 bus speed and some 333 ram. I was also so disgusted with my Creative Audigy MP3 and its many driver issues that I wanted a built in sound card just to get rid of the headache.

    512MB of PC2700 DDR Ram (there's room to grow!)
    ATI Radeon 9000 Pro (highly recommended!)

    ... and too many hard drives to plug in at once, dammit! All in my lovely aluminum Lian-Li PC-65.
