Who knows whether the thief is done with him yet? If I could choose between someone stealing my car stereo, and some unscrupulous bastard failing to steal my stereo and instead getting injured in the process...
Well then I suppose the police should have done their job to prevent the theft in the first place by keeping car thieves off the street.
Of the thousands of Police Forces around the world, can you identify one that has been successful at this? Believe me, you wouldn't want (not even in your happy little Utopia) to have a Police Force that has done everything necessary to guarantee you that absolutely no petty thieves are walking the streets.
Should we suffer because there are other people who are bad at knowing the right/wrong situations to divide their attention and who are obviously incapable of talking and keeping the wheel straight?
I'm afraid it looks that way. Let's say you're a helicopter pilot. In my opinion, if you can solo-pilot a helicopter, you're more than capable of driving + [texting | talking] a car at the same time, those two activities are nowhere near as demanding as hovering + radio calling + checking temperatures & pressures + controlling in all three dimensions. But there's no way you'll get a special exemption under the law. The cops are allowed to speed, on the grounds that they are trained and have high-visibility paint jobs & lights. But even if you could train yourself and get a high-visibility paint job yourself, you still won't be exempt.
Here in New Zealand a law is about to be introduced on November 1 specifically banning phoning or texting while driving, despite the existence of "Careless driving" which already covers any ace of not paying due attention to the task. While I don't like arbitrary laws when more general ones seem more suitable, if it results in our drivers taking better care (and believe me they need to here) the net result will be good IMO.
The only Apple upgrade that's given me problems is iPhone 3.0; wireless strength gradually drops from full to nothing over 10 minutes or so. With 2.x it's fine.
You and thousands of others. I returned my iPod Touch 2nd Gen yesterday because of this - fingers crossed Apple don't drop it in a puddle and refuse to fix it because of the LIS.
Heh, I used to do that (in Auckland, NZ) from my work mobile, whenever I visited the head office about once a month. Tremendously convenient, well worth the extra 50 cents. One day it didn't work, instead a TXT came back saying my mobile couldn't do that anymore.
Turns out the Accounts department didn't like me doing that, and cancelled it without telling me. Apparently they'd rather I fill out an expense claim, get it signed by my manager, than fax it to accounts, at which stage they'd credit it to me again. For two dollars, every month (man of principle, etc.)
Corporate Accountants FTW - without them two dollars each month would be incorrectly classified as Telecomms rather than Travel - thank god they caught me out at my terrible little game.
I started off naming my (personal) workstations after cats that we'd had that had passed away. Eventually my hobby outpaced the number of cats, so I had to start rubbin' em out manually.
As someone whose had a TomTom GPS before, I'll stick with Google Maps and finding / memorising my own directions, thankyouverymuch. Those guys have got a pretty funny idea of "fastest route", IMO.
All you need to do is connect the iPhone to your computer and then choose to Restore from Backup, I believe, to get the new iPhone up and running exactly as your old one was
Just did this yesterday, and it kinda works like that. All the Apps were in alphabetical order afterwards, rather than the order I arranged them, which is a bit of a hassle if you run your iPod Touch / iPhone FULL of Apps.
Why did I erase my iPod? Trying to fix the iPhone OS 3.0 Wi-Fi Bug, that rumour has it fried the wireless chipsets of thousands of devices of course.
Well, I guess that's your interpretation of what I said, but I don't know how I'd imply something to myself And you're right, I tried to sound smart, while you're clearly not guilty of that.
GREEN is NOT a primary color!!! This is one of my biggest pet peeves. Green is a secondary color along with purple and orange, it is made by combining yellow and blue.
I work in the TV industry...
Not any more you don't. Get out, you're fired. Take a look at the Vectorscope on your way out.

Most people here don't speak English

Now get off my lawn!

Uhhh, static IP addresses on workstations? No, thanks.
Well, you obviously weren't born yesterday, but kindly stop trying to confuse those who were

Except our chicks are hotter.
... and you don't need to remind anyone how that worked out for them.

He said, "Son, you can either be one or the other"
^ See what I did there? ^
... and your Selenium deficiency taken care of too!
In my experience, it's not that unusual to have free space on volumes. It shouldn't arouse suspicion to have an encrypted volume that's not 100% full.
... and if it could, they'd outlaw that too.
I had to giggle a few months ago reading a headline in NZ Computerworld: "HP Launches into POS"
Hell, what am I saying, this is the UK we're talking about. Paint your roof. Somebody doesn't like it? You're going to jail.
