Hell, even the MC68000 from the 80s had a low power mode invoked by the "STOP" opcode. The CPU would stop processing until an interrupt occurred. (which you enabled before executing STOP, right? RIGHT? Aw nuts..)
Yeah, but they're separately downloadable, so there's still no compelling reason to watch that pile of trash movie.
I'd never seen it myself (because I'd heard it's rubbish) until a year ago, when a friend of a friend insisted that they apparently hired a technical 'expert' to try not to make seasoned techs piss themselves laughing, and that the story was fulfilling, moving, and worthy of a watch. Holy shit what an unbelievable waste of time.
Wasn't that earlier this year in July?
In Northland my work was out for 24hrs, but at home it was out for over three days! IIRC every generator in the country sold out on the first day.
On top of that, there is the whole chat medium. Anyone who has ever done a lot of IM/IRC/whatever knows that it's not uncommon to type the wrong thing in the wrong window/channel, so the occasional out of nowhere sentence that would never pass in a one-on-one environment, will pass there because the signal to noise ratio is lower.
I wish laws like that would go one step further and make it illegal to say you will void the warranty in that case.
Since you say it's a little-known law, it seems to me like not enough people are protected by it, and manufacturers / stores could bully people into not claiming simply because of their ignorance of it.

Can we have an 'Amen!' here folks?
You might have meta-moderated someone else's moderation that was identical to yours perhaps?
Sorry, I used all my mod points yesterday.
Whoosh!
Swordfish references are inherently flamebait, since it implies the author believes Swordfish is worthy of reference.

... as if on cue.
There could be any reason he chose that nickname, many of which might not be claim authority / superiority.
2.4.20 in 1996? Even 2.2.20 wasn't out in 1996, you are talking about Linux, right?

Thanks to the braindead and careless editorial of this site, most of the following discussion is merely arguing the meaning of the word "brick".
Nice work kdawson.
Damn shame it's offtopic - I think it's quite well put.
Don't mind him. Like a thousand other slashdotters, he learned what a Strawman was last week, and he's just trying to throw it round a bit.

Nonsense. Everybody knows a more apt analogy would involve crashing the EeePC into the back of a Ford Pinto, causing the whole thing to catch fire.
... hey what's that sound, everybody look what's going down
Your resistance only makes my penis harder!
My favourite option is: ssh root@bigserver.downhole.jp --replace-failed-disk /dev/rdsk/c0t3d0 --with-this-one-here-on-my-desk
I wonder why that acronym never caught on?
I can't believe you missed the opportunity!
When little boxes made of copper are outlawed, only outlaws will have little boxes made of copper.
TFA loaded in seconds for me...
Nosirree. Every disk should come with its own file management utilities - that's how I can tell them apart!
