The american economy is a mess. To the point that America is borrowing money from China in order to trade with them. Where Wal*Mart accounts for 8% of the national debt. The unemployment rate is 5.4%, The american dollar is losing value because of the weak economy, to the point that it's dangering the Canadian economy. America has been cutting its interest rates to spur growth, and avoid deflation. I have no vested interest in American politics, but America is in a recession- wake up.
It should look state of the art with straight-lines, a red stripe down the side... Here are some preliminary designs for NASA:

Now if we could only get Majel Barrett to do the voice-over for the computer:(
...They make you jump through hoops and engage in pointless tests before they hire you to do some menial task.
The genuinely talented people could potentially be turned off by these types of disrespectful hiring practices -- granted a lot of people want to work for google, but are the numerous interviews, tests, and other stupidity necessary?
Either they want you- or they don't... why can't it be that simple?
I guess it all makes sense when you aren't looking for employees- but people who will be completely subservient to you.
I just think that the UI is very similar to every other word processor out there- there is little innovation in OpenOffice, and not much incentive for people to use it other than being stuck on a linux system. I realize that openoffice inherited a lot from staroffice, which is both a positive and a limitation. I've stopped using word and office, but I think the hook for people is exchange operability- not always word operability. For many documents.txt would probably suffice- I know people like nice headers, and color... but why can't business keep things simple? Imagine if their were proprietary e-mail formats- that would be a nightmare... but for the most part people seem to keep it simple.
I guess I got used to not having it- but I did use it with windows-- I guess we are just creatures of habit--- I guess I trained myself to scroll "manually"-- I usually use page up/ page down.
Send all your files as.txt If Fancy formatting is really necessary send as a pdf.
I could care-less about OpenOffice, they have done a nice job at emulating all the really bad elements of Microsoft Office without the perks like the speed of office, the interoperability, and some of the features.
I switched from 14 years of PC use to Mac OS X, and I have to say that while it did take a while to get used to-- the one button mouse is much more intuitive than a 2-button mouse.
You can do everything on OS X just using the mouse and clicking to get it, everything in a contextual menu can be found either in a button or the apple menu.
Also another beauty in OS X is that everything can be controlled through the keyboard which some people find very intuitive.
If you really 'need' to invoke a contextual menu you just hold down control and click-- it really isn't that hard, and it probably isnt necessary anyway.
It seems logical to think that way- but throughout history people have noticed that a work created by one person has a high degree of perfection than works created by a group of people (see Descartes Discourse on Method Part II).
The same probably holds true for organzing a group. Coherent direction, and criticism from one individual is probably more effective than direction and criticism from a group. Hopefully that makes some sense to you.
It's almost rational to think that way, but in reality it probably has more to do with an agreement or understanding with Microsoft. No guy in an airport whining is going to blow centrino out of the market--
It seems almost shocking to me that people are clicking on these ads, and some are actually buying the products or services.
I guess I am just being naive and ignoring impulse shopping, but I can't imagine someone seeing an ad and actually purchasing a product without putting any real thought into it.
I am so thankful for things like Adblock, it helps bring back some sanity to the web.
It does have to do with fixes found in panther that were not in jaguar- they are not just minor fixes, and they affect many aspects of the OS. There are API fixes as well.
Although the naming scheme is the same, Panther is it's own O.S.- some developers can write apps that function on both operating systems- but they don't have to.
Apple would have to maintain two very different versions of Safari. Safari on panther is a little different as Apple has split Safari from Webcore- leaving webcore available for any application to use.
Safari 1.0.3 does work, and it wouldn't be practical for Apple to support 2 versions of Safari on two different O.S.es. Firefox may be the best alternative to Safari.

I'm sorry, but this is where I draw the line-- it's completely unusable
The only reason is that the economy has fallen apart and he is looking to pork barrel his way out... War, Nasa-- it's like the 80's all over again.
The benefits are Reaganomically fantastical to Thatcheristic proportions!!

Here is a great leaked picture of the new sub 100$ computer:

Nice rhetorical argument... I was barley convinced.

Apple one-upped Gillette by making money on both blades and razors.

I WANT ONE!!!
Coke can do that to you- and I don't mean the soft drink.

Remember: American is just as much a democracy as China is communist
So in the end it's ok to call China Communist.
