The only reason they are bra-sizing hardware is so that they can hide their shame to the world when they release the specs for longhorn.
My Computer has Double D's
...we just put an "X" in a "box" on something called a piece of paper. On this piece of paper, which we call a "ballot", there is a list of perhaps 4 or 5 names depending on the number of candidates running. You mark an "X" beside the name of the person you wish to vote for... then you take this "ballot" and place it in a cardboard-box. It may be a little high-tech but this method could catch on in developing democracies like the U.S.
Kevin Gerich (who, along with Stephen Horlander created the default theme for Firefox) has done some really nice Firefox replacement widgets at his weblog- check them out and install them, they are very nice.
I'd say there are fundamental shortcomings with MSN Messenger.
First it is overloaded with too many-- junky features. It isn't cross-platform (yes there is a light-version for the Mac OS, but there is no version parity). You cannot leave a message to a person who does not appear to be online, there is a cap on the size of your list, the program is also weak in the options you have to let other people know what you are doing (eg away, busy, offline) and with how you can block people, or interact with others while 'invisible'. You also have non-standardized contact list names- which allows for people to use long quotes or sayings or using their status as their name- this makes the program almost unusable. There are many subtle improvements that could be made that can be found in 3rd-party clients-- Things like a tabbed chat window for example. So I would say MSN Messenger for Windows needs less bloat, and needs to be re-worked so that the program interacts with users in a more beneficial and intuitive way.
Just forget the rancid way people behave on IM for a minute... This graphical chat thing is just absolute garbage!
If anyone has been around for a while you may remember back when Instant Messaging was functional and innovative- nowadays it seems development by these big companies has stagnated-- and these are the new features? 3D heads floating in space?? The only cure for IM is to allow interoperability between clients, this would allow for greater competition-- because as it stands now people are stuck with whoever has a monopoly on IM in their country- AIM in most of the U.S. and MSN Messenger everywhere else... Could someone (or some company) save IM!?...Google perhaps?
Call me paranoid... but I've noticed that all e-mail I send from my.Mac account to any hotmail account finds itself instantly in Hotmail's Junk e-mail box... It's a good thing I pay for the stupid e-mail address and the rest of the world seems to use hotmail.
...That Longhorn will really just be a new Interface theme for Windows XP, which is really just sort-of a new interface theme for Windows 2000.... of course longhorn will introduce a slew of new and exciting bugs. I am a little excited about these next-generation bugs-- go Microsoft!
I believe Moulin rouge is one of those very movies. It was absolute drivel. It has a weak (or almost non existent story), features snippets of '80s songs sung in some fake operetta style. This is the worst movie of all time- it was long, and designed for people who lack the mental capacity to appreciate character development or depth. It wasn't a musical, and wasn't so much of a story... it just ended up being a fast-paced, culture-whoring orgy of colour.
They are looking for Radio Waves generated by the use of electricity (or something comparable). Just as everything electrical we create lets off some kind of electromagnetic force unless shielded the idea is so do the things an advanced alien civilization use. The purpose of SETI is to search for radio waves associated with the use of electrical objects not Radio shows by Aliens.
This new-fangled device will allow you to listen to new music as well as music that already exists in your library- it has advanced features as automatic shuffling, some stations even allow you to request a song...Most Radios are 100% wireless! and are great on battery consumption.
FAN-TAS-TIC!
I had bought a cell phone, I gave it a chance... my basic plan ended up costing me over 100$ a month and I wasn't making many calls at all- service charges and other fees always put my cell phone bill over the top.
Why do I need to pay someone else to talk to my friends, if they really need me they can plan ahead and find me... and vice versa.
Cell-Phones are great for business people on the road and for emergencies like a flat tire- but they end up becoming annoying with people calling you with last minute plans, people calling to find where you are... you think that's the device of the future? The internet features flat out suck. The picture features suck, the capacity sucks... everything about cell-phones suck, from battery life, to signal quality.
Wait until you can get VoIP via WiFi cell phones or something... then perhaps the technology will have improved, the phone plans will be less expensive- and phone companies wont be nickel and diming their customers.
I've worked for two big US companies that have outsourced to the US- one told us never to say we were in Canada, the other just leaves it to your discretion, but usually people will lie.
The US has been outsourcing to Canada for a long time.
It isnt just about a minor revision, it's a mix of things such as Apple's recent sale of 100,000,000 songs, the success of the ipod in general and the release of the new iPod...
...well maybe it already is. I'm surprised that an article like this can get published in the New York Times.
Either the author is above his head when it comes to compression technology- or he owed a favor to one of Apple's competitors... The article is just a bit of fud-- and it's so half-assed I don't think any intelligent person would fall for his vague argument that 160 is higher than 128 which therefore means it is better.
I hope this isn't a sign of things to come as Microsoft prepares it's own music download business.
...Or just have Michael Moore make a movie about it where he drives to Washington in an ice-creme truck and makes Senators sign up for a years subscription to Linspire
- You insensitive clods, my cell-phone's still using LED lights.

I will purchase this the minute Howard Stern starts broadcasting over XM
It's kind-of Ironic that Britain used to send their criminals to Australia... now the United States is taking the criminals for themselves...

...I was always wondering where my spam came from.... well that sucks.
If you've ever seen an old Cadillac- or perhaps a Hummer, you will understand.
...Those are some over-sized eggs you're having for breakfast!
I officially declare that ARPANET shall only be referred to as aRPAnET... bow down before the mystical powers of WIRED magazine!!!

Bicentennial Man... the title sounds almost homo-erotic and lives up to it's name-- featuring robin williams as a very gay (or perhaps bi) robot.
...Worst movie of all time.
...also any movie by Roland Emmerich.
