unfortunatly the world is full of people who use you. I had the exact same experience. But then they come back when they realize the next best thing is to wipe your computer at Best buy and not backup anything for 40 dollars. So I just don't call them back then.
It could also be the readers faults. Those of us with slashdot ads disabled get to see the articles early and mention to the mods if their is a problem before the general public sees it. However With the number of subscribers being alot lower then the normal amount of slashdot readers that means less of us to hit the website to catch an article before it goes out. We have the ability to comment and have links/titles fixed. As for content though I assume that link is just as good as a broken link.
So readers loose because their aren't alot of subscribers I get and we see more crap then.
I agree we have ultra 5's and 10's running gnome on solaris 9. No need to upgrade but I believe the fastest we have is around 500mhz. It works so why do we need more speed. We do however have a nice server to run all our compiles on. But even the simplest program compiled locally can take a few seconds.
What really is the need for all the speed anyway. Alot of multimedia usually. Of which the sparc do not really have a good array of applications to help with that.
It usually starts slow. I backrounded it and when i came back later I was getting like 512-600k it wasn't to shabby. My core 1 cd doesn't pass the checksum though.. I think there is a problem and i have to redownload it.

The game is what spawned everquest. It took alot of it's memebers and used them as game testers when it started. If I recall correctly this game was the first 3d mmorpg to *I think*. I played it years ago and then again when a german server ran it. It's a great game. Really worth a shot... So don't knock it yet.

It's sorta like dorney park by me.. no one calls it dorney park and wild water kingdom but the out of state guests. anyone that lives close usually just refers to it as dorney. Even though dorney could be all the land around it in dorneyville.

A burglar got into a friends house aimed a gun at the owner and the owner shot him. he ran outside and fell over on the lawn ended up sueing the owner and winning like 100k from him for the trama and damage to his arm.
so why exactly are they targeting linux users with this? I mean I dont see Word for linux floating around anywhere and I sure as hell wouldn't touch windows again now that I know the flexibility I have here.. Not to start an OS flame war but perhaps if there was a MS Office product for linux they wouldn't have to worry about open office...
MS could then just use the power they have with the computer distributors bundle it in with all linux sold pc's and require them to sell it that it's not an option. They did it with windows didn't they?
The biggest problem is that people that have used open office are spreading the word. Im currently in college and I openly recommend it over word. We keep a cd in the CS lab with it on and burn it for anyone to use. While the Campus IT tells people buy word for x amount. To a college student we see free and go for it.

I dont think it's wrong to download something even if it is say a copy of a game or music. There is nothign wrong with downloading it to me. It's when you actually use it without the license that it's wrong.
Now I know poeple are going to say who downloads something and doens't use it. But honestly what if that happened? If someone had say 6000 mp3's they have never listened to but just had the data on disc? What makes that illegal exactly? It's not like it's owning stolen items. It's 0's and 1's in it's basic form. Just because it plays on an mp3 player doesnt' mean it's an mp3. You could run it through another piece of software and get today's weather data.
Trojaning something like this is so disrespectful to others privacy. They definatly should be punished.

They were cancer patients like these and the hardware to make it cheaper sesors that once did hard checks to make certain things were checked got moved to software checks. Some of the checks failed resulting in overexposure and radiation burns eventually death.
yeah really it's sad but anything that mentions reverse engineering anymore gets a comment like this. It's not a bad comment the problem is that it's so true. Everyone is sue happy.

If any of you played realMYST that was a test of the graphics engine. It looked gorgeous slow as hell on a p3 with vodoo 3 though.
But it was gorgeous it looked like the old myst did but in real time.
The new one if you look at the graphics is simply just as gorgeous all in real time all online.
How can one not love it? I'm a big myst fan so i've been following this game since it was titled mudpie.
they were doing really good in the stock market for a while. It almost hit 75. Then it dropped but it's climbing slowly again. So financially they are pretty stable. They seem to be increasing profits alot. And the games they put out for the most part sell well... Besides nascar cause well you only even turn one way so you don't even need a whole dpad to play:p but seriously most of there games are quality that can compete with there competitiors.
i wrote some software in vb that got a webserver built in to it so if you refresh the software alot it would work. It's saves to a jpg. So if i implimented the avi code i have you would have the same effect. I never realized anyone was interested in this type of thing.....

it's based on a jpg compression dll i found on the internet. I'll impliment avi support when I have time. You can just set it to refresh how many times per second. Although it already uses some cpu power as it's written in vb so like a 15 fps capture could drag my comp to slowdown i guess....

Such a great system. I still play mine although it does feel like I use to feel playing atari.
So when I want to view download something.. do I have to ping it with my pidgeon first to make sure the server is alive?
