Playback does work on partially downloaded files with youtube-dl. You have to wait a couple seconds before playing the partially downloaded file and skipping might not work, but I just reconfirmed that it works with mplayer. Try it!
I don't mean to rain on your parade, but Killing Floor is a UT2004 mod. So you're using a 5 year old laptop to play a 9 year old game:p Doesn't make the game any less fun or awesome though:)
And there's already a bunch of ways to do something like this! I stumbled onto CDE a while ago when I thought "WTF, Ubuntu has the Common Desktop Environment in its repos?!".
Would you mind explaining to me why Steam has to install DirectX or VC Runtime with each game? I'm honestly curious and tried googling for an answer before and couldn't find one.
I always thought that one of the appeals of DirectX was that you install the latest one which all your games then use.
Starcraft 2 and Natural Selection 2. I dual boot Windows and Linux and am pretty happy with that honestly. Linux for real work, Windows for fun and games.
It is mandatory to use synapse if you happen to have installed it once to try it out and you want extra functionality from your keyboard. I found this out the hard way. Installing Synapse will upgrade your firmware and there is NO WAY to downgrade. I've also had a suite of issues with the software. It used to crash once a day after hitting my first macro key. It also pops up the user interface for every single user on a system, even if they don't use the hardware. I use my Razer keyboard at work, so I had to explain to all my other co workers to close the razer window after every log in. It would also make my mouse lag for some reason every time I tried to bring the interface up. I can't say I like Synapse at all.
I I learned how to type on a V-Tech aparatus in '98. Vtech mostly makes toys and stuff. This thing had a normal keyboard layout and a small LCD display. I think it only ran on a couple of AA's and might be right up your alley. It was similar to this.
The ladder in Starcraft 2 is kind of nice. In Brood War there was no ladder (not counting ICCUP). When you wanted to play against someone you joined a random custom game and either they were a lot better than you or a lot worse. Of course, in both games you're still able to play fun games with friends where you make your own rules.
Also, games are as social as you make them. I chatted up some Protoss that beat me last night, had a nice conversation with this Navy dude stationed in Japan. Now I have a new friend to practice against!
Why is it only CP that you're afraid of? Shouldn't you be equally afraid of transmitting terrorist information and being charged with treason or providing comfort and aid to the enemy?
What's so bad (or worsed) about KDE? You can set it up exactly the way you like it: focus follows the cursor and you can set up the desktop to have 0 widgets and not be a file manager folder view like Windows. You can make the desktop be a solid color with no functionality since you (like me) never see it anyway.
I love my country but I fear my government I love my country but I fear they're watching me All the time Isn't that a crime?
I see them fighting all their wars on the TV screen Mindless corruption with no accountability Can't you see
Every time I try to fight it they deny it Every time I try to show it they control it All the time They have cameras They have guns They've got big atomic bombs And they'll do everything they can To frighten me/you
They try to tell me that everything's okay They will distract me in every bloody way It's so insane to live this way
They spy on me using everything they got They'll try to change me and control My every thought All the time Yes it's a crime
Don't wanna live in constant fear Don't wanna live on a TV show Don't wanna live through a microscope I wanna feel like I'm in control
I wanna live in a fearless state I wanna live without the hate I wanna be able to decide my fate I wanna break out of this cage
There is very very little strategy when playing 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4. You're right that you can get easily killed for doing the wrong build or not having units in those games. However, in 1v1 you have just one opponent that can only be doing so many strategies at once. With proper scouting you can get an idea of what he's doing and prepare for it. The ladder system matches you up against someone of equal suckiness, so you can't be getting obliterated all the time.
The high ground thing totally isn't true. You need to be able to see up the high ground to shoot up there. Air units risk getting shot, scans directly cost terrans money, and even observers cost time, money, and teching to protoss as do Colossi which are more vulnerable.
Here's a good example of my reward for solid tactical decisions: I'm zerg playing a terran on shattered temple, he decides to forgo making marines and instead cust the map in half with planetary fortresses and mass thors and hellions. Since I know he doesn't have a mobile army, I freely expand to all the bases on my side of the map since I know attacks will be slow moving in. After some back and fourth of me keeping him on his side of the map, I send brood lords to attack his quarter of the map where he's still mining while opening a nydus tunnel on the other half where he spawned. I did a little bit of damage with the brood lords and drew all his attention over to them while I stream zerglings, ultras, and infestors out of the other side of the map and took out all of his production. I knew he couldn't be in 2 places at once.
Just keep playing, don't stress out too much and you'll get better.
This post is highly disingenuous. You're comparing a statement the parent made with an argument he claims the opposing side makes as if they are both the parent's views.
Starcraft 2 has a matchmaking system that pits you against people that are as good (or as bad) as you are. Newsflash: If you don't have good builds memorized, neither will your opponent. There are many many people in the lowest league, so don't think that Starcraft 2 will only be taking loss after loss.
And how will these "peacekeeper" robots keep the peace? With violence of course!

Thanks for the explanation. Seems kinda wasteful, eh?

I plug in USB flash drives to my Nexus 7 all the time. I've rooted it and use Stickmount and an OTG cable. Try it out!
I can best describe my feelings with a meme.

Since when can you play a LAN game on Battle.net 2.0?

I was a huge fan of Konqueror and have since re-configured Dolphin to be similar to Konqueror. What is it really missing that Konqueror had?
