That's not true. My friend told me this too, so I proved him wrong. I'm using Nvidia 8762 and xorg 1:7.0.22 (debian testing). The trick to it is running the Nvidia script like this: sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8762-pkg1.run --x-module-path=/usr/lib/xorg/modules -n -N

I also compile it with gcc 4, not 4.1 because that's what I built my kernel with and patched it for suspend. The nvidia driver even behaves with hibernating.

  3. Re:Adverts? on New(?) Anti-Fraud DNS service · · Score: 1

The ads are like Google text ads. Not the kind that try to install spyware on your system. And speaking of Google, when you misstype a domain name, the search page looks just like a google one. Firefox used to do an "I'm Feeling Lucky" search when I didn't type in a full domain name, but now I'm just taken to a shitty Godaddy parked page.

Except Linux users typically do not run random executables, and are not easily tricked into running them. Windows by default hides the file extension and lets a program show whichever icon it wants. It's the oldest trick in the book.

  6. WGA crack on Aero To Be Unavailable To Pirates · · Score: 1

Microsoft made the Genuine Advantage check optional at first, but it is now required for windows XP. They'll just be continuing the tradition with Vista which isn't a big surprise. What I wonder is if they'll leave it easily crackable like today's WGA check.

As a side note, I recently had an invalid WGA check on a machine I was working on. I noticed on the page that Microsoft will now sell you a valid key to make your pirated version of Windows legitimate. The problem with this is that buying a valid key for your pirated windows will not guarantee that you didn't install a system with a trojan or rootkit already on it. Since they're only selling license, you'll get no media to do a clean install. Bleh.
