Did the same to my main house server more than a year ago. My regular disk drives sleep, while the CF handle the bulk of the regular load. I have noticed that the system is MUCH cooler and quieter. In fact, for my shuttle shoebox system, I am about to take out the 80G HDD and put in a 32G CF and figure that it will not only be faster, but also cheaper on electricity and quieter (the fan HUMS when I am using it; that HDD adds heat).

In the branching, they simply point Windows and Linux to other areas. Lets assume that it was accident as you suggest. Then why not fix the problem and release with next iteration of bios? Yet, they purposely fought that. This was a willful issue.
It would be nice to see a couple of state AGs find them guilty and then disallow all foxconn products to be sold in their state. After that, I think that foxconn and all that play with MS will straighten up (esp if state was new york or CA).

Beyond that, yeah, we should start listing ALL the boards and products of Foxconn and quit buying them. Apple little system? Gone. HP's , etc. Quit buying thenm and then I think that foxconn will reconsider how good the deal with MS is.

  9. Yeah, it was an interesting read on Police Director Sues AOL For Critical Blogger's Name · · Score: 3, Insightful

The last story indicates how backwards that district is, but the first story shows so many crimes being committed by the police themselves. I remember back in the late 80's, that a story surfaced about the New Orlean police. The feds had JUST shut them down. The reason is that the police chief was going to have a witness murdered to keep him from talking (they had no idea how close the fed were). In fact, the feds had figured out that several other murders by the police had taken place to prevent the feds, so they took this one serious. What was more amazing is that this made the front page and then disappeared from the press the next day. That alone indicates how much control there is over the press.

But taking a side note, this blog really shows that news papers are doomed shortly. It really is important that blogs like this continue. I mean, if news papers were doing their jobs, this would be in the news. The fact that it is not, shows that even when a story is there, they ignore it.

Personally, I am hopeful that the next president will all but require each state to have a nuke. Realisticly, it is a far better choice than coal plants. But I was thinking about how long these take to come on line. A slightly different approach on these would be to build a gas or coal plant (which can happen VERY quickly save for environmental regs), with the premise that the site is going to go nuke. Once the nuke comes on-line, then the company can either pull the boiler and use it for another site, OR keep it and use it for a back-up. That way, if the nuke has to come down, then the company is still doing generation rather cheaply.

I have felt that gas's biggest advantage is the back-up and peak ability that it has. The idea of using it for base load strikes me as crazy.
