Where does this troll come from? It happens all the time on slashdot. Is there a reference I've completely missed or are there really that many idiots who can't read a fucking dictionary?
Just one more reason for me to continue to not fly. When are people going to realise that catalogue and tracking every movement of every person is not only an extreme invasion of privacy but a pathologically insane thing to do?
That isn't OS-free or Linux. That's windows with a $750 premium to get it shipped to your door with a Linux install, with the option of having them not install windows and presumeably resell that separately.
I for one am not interested in "end-to-end" "experiences" as provided by microsoft. What they seem to be describing is the total home computer/entertainment monopoly that they've been having wet dreams about for the last decade or so.
In a somewhat unrelated note, the article says that they have pulled developers off of the "highly successful" xbox team. How does one measure success? Is it by how much you get clobbered in your particular market or is it by how much money you lose?
Kind of seems like Google dropped the ball on this one, though. Other than Google Pages being so limited that it's almost useless, it seems a bit broken even in the limited things it does. For instance I put an image on a page, and dragged it to one side. No matter what I did after that I couldn't drag it back to center, just to either side. There also didn't seem to be a clear or easy way to switch which page is your "Home Page".
I think freedom is a really big part for most home Linux users. Though more like freedom to customize than freedom of speech. The freedom to customize my desktop environment is probably the thing I like most about Linux and miss the most when I have to use windows or mac.
Maybe it could syndicate the porn via RSS after collecting it. And before anyone gets any ideas, PornCast(tm) is now officially a trademark of me. I will be submitting my patent on the iPorn Portable Pornography Player shortly.
It's because of the continuing inequity of wealth distribution. If these idiots had less money to throw away on stuff like this and more ordinary people had cash in their pockets the economy would be rocking and everyone would be doing a lot better.
2. If you let the bastards lock up everything for the next 17 years, the Chinese are going to put the U.S. of A. so far behind that it'll require a insane amounts of spending to catch up.
But oh noes, we won't be able to spend because just then the Chinese will decide that they've had enough of lending us money and we'll be sunk. It was fun being a super power while it lasted though, right?
Any commercial Internet site or online service that "has as its principal or primary business the making available of material that is harmful to minors" would be required to move its site to that domain.
So focus on the family is going to move to family.xxx and the discovery institute is going to have to use discovery.xxx? Sounds like a plan!
You realize that itunes supports the "music cabals" too, right? And in fact I'd say it's worse, since you're buying into a proprietary DRM scheme that locks you into using their players on their approved platforms for playback. With a CD you can legally play it just about anywhere and don't have to worry about constantly having to wait for new revisions of DRM removal tools after a software update.
Not to mention that with CDs you can buy used which a) gets the price down to less than the 1$/track you pay with itunes (often MUCH less) and b) you pay 0$ to the "music cabals". Of course you don't end up paying anything to the artists either. But it's not like they were making anything on the actual music sales anyway. If you want to support them, go buy their tshirts or go see a show when they come to town.
If you're looking for coop go with The Adventures of Cookies & Cream for PS2. It's totally simple to play (anyone should be able to pick it up in a matter of minutes) and requires real teamwork to get through. Might have to go to ebay to find a copy these days, though.
I like how he actually called the customers "customers" instead of "consumers". That's right bitches, we're not just mindlessly consuming your bullshit. We're fucking PAYING for it!
I don't know where this distinction got lost but it seems to be part of the problem we face of corporate executives feeling entitled to our money whether we want to pay for their products or not.
Seems they're still doing a huge business at Best Buy last time I was in there. Though you can't buy them at the mall anymore. This kind of article is just more crap tha forgets that most people don't buy things online. Most don't primarily listen to music on digital players. We're a ways off from physical music sales, and hopefully a very long way.
You ipod kids are welcome to come tell everyone how everyone you know only listens to music on their ipods and that you don't know anyone who has bought a CD in a decade, two decades, three decades, since WWII, whatever. Fact is, that's not most people who buy music.
Exactly. Maybe if I could pay 15$/month and play any of the dozens of MMO games out there it'd be cool. Of course they could always do tiers like Anarchy Online does where paying members don't see the ads. But doesn't that take something away from the game? For instance the paying members will never understand what people are talking about when they point out a bizarre ad or something.
Have you seen how huge the PS2 library is? I finally picked up a PS2 last spring and since then I've been amazed at just how large it is, especially by how many good games there are. Sony definitely doesn't have the AAA percentage that Nintendo has, but their A+ games dwarf the numbers of playable games on GameCube and xbox combined.
If you look at the exclusive games for each console there isn't even a competition. Sony's got stuff. Nintendo's got stuff. And microsoft has what, halo and Ninja Gaiden? And halo isn't even very good.
I don't know where all these microsoft fanbois are coming from (not considering parent as one, mind) but microsoft gaining any dominance in the console business will be bad for everyone. I think you've got to go with Sony in any Sony vs microsoft battle. They pretty much suck as a first party developer, but kick ass at bringing top quality third parties on board. They don't have the personal computer monopoly that will further enslave us if they take over the living room. As long as they don't put in the outrageous drm that has been rumoured, and if Nintendo can't take the top spot, I don't see how any reasonable person can be against Sony in this. microsoft can't be allowed to be the dominant player in console games, and that's just because of the huge amount of crap they will dump on us as players.
Feel free to mod me into oblivion. But go check out the 9.99$ and under bin at your local gamestoop first. There's more quality games there than you'll find on xbox and GameCube combined, which has consistently managed to shock me.
It'd better not be released as a real product yet. That thing is HEUG!! I mean, that'd be like wearing xbox around on your wrist. An xbox that would completely drain its batteries by lunchtime no less.

Emperor Linux: $2750
Lenovo: $1,979.00
Convertible tablet PC. You know anywhere that sells one without an OS or pre-installed with Linux? Because I certainly haven't seen one.
Free fall? Really? What did you mean to say?

Of course not, they used diebold to rig their elections just like we do!

We're working on it, but idiots keep throwing money at ximian!
If Anheuser-Busch is the only other brewery doing it then sure it's something new. Because Fat Tire actually tastes good.

No, in Soviet Russia something does them.
