Spare me. I have heard thigns I would like to buy, I just can't really afford them. Contrary to what the underground hipster I-hate-everything generation would have you believe, there ARE bands and artists out there doing worthy things. It's not the record industry's fault that you USED to know how to find music you like, but now, conveniently, there's nothing "Good" out there.

    New stuff worth listening to:
    White Stripes
    The Shins
    Jet
    Modest Mouse
    Rasputina

Go listen to some college radio, or have someone find you something to listen to.

Now, there is a very good free-market solution to this: Do nothing. If people care about their privacy, they will make sure to deal only with companies that put measures in place to protect it. If people do not care about their privacy (and it appears to be the case that they do not) then they won't. However, just because other people would rather save $5 than keep their privacy does not mean that you have to.
Unfortunately, people can not be trusted to always look out for their privacy, just like an AOL user can't be expected to know how to protect themselves from viruses and spyware.

The main problem here is that there are PROTECTIONS in place in the US to protect privacy. There are not these protections in India, and it would be difficult/impossible to respond to a breach in this instance.

Now, I know what you are going to say "But the free market! UCSF is going to get flak for this breach of trust" and my response is that THERE SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN A BREACH IN THE FIRST PLACE; I don't care what the fallout for UCSF is going to be due to "free market economics"

I have one of these. It is very configurable. You just assign keystrokes, toggles, or combinations to keys. I haven't actually used it for any work, but I don't do much work on my computer anymore anyway. It's great for games. Slight pain of setting it up for a new game when you get one, but after 10 minutes setting the configs to how you like it and you are set. It's better than losing your place on a keyboard.

I think they even came out with a new one. I have the older N50. The N52 looks like it has an extra row of keys and an additional thumb button, and some little switch thing under that. It doesn't say on the belkin site. Personally until I see it in action, I don't think the extra $15 is justified. 10 buttons is plenty to get to immediately, plus you have the toggle modes red, green and blue (think caps lock, but instead of capital letters it can remap or do whatever you set it to). 10 keys (plus the 4 on the dpad) is plenty for immediate access, you can even set a direction on the dpad to shift the 10 keys to stuff you don't have to get to as quickly, like team-say preset codes or whatever. The real important stuff like movement keys would be the default.

It was worth the $30 I spent at Compusa.

I happen to play lots of games on a duron 900 and GF2mx. Where are you getting your $900 figure from. Your first mistake was buying a more expensive, less capable Celeron. AMD rules the low end chips. I just went to an Athlon XP 2000+ for about $70 (cheaper if you buy online, I bought local).

Yeah, it's a gf2mx, so I can't play it with all the pretty effects, but that doesn't mean I can't be competitive and have some fun with a decent game.

So lets break it down. $200 to play a console that ONLY does console, or $500 to use a machine that I can modify to my liking, use for work and play, has better graphics (TV is still stuck at NTSC unless you're willing to shell out $$$ for HDTV, and that TOTALLY shifts things back in favor of the PC), and can play mods, which are arguably a better value than the game itself.

It was in gorgeous 256 colors when everything was still EGA. King's Quest 5 came out shortly after I got it, and though it ran like ass on a 10mhz 286, it looked awesome at the time. If you're so hip to what's up in gaming and what's wrong with it, why aren't you making something new?

And my point of view is completely the opposite. Massively multiplayer is a pit. It takes too much damn effort to play, there are SO many bugs, you have to pay to play per month most of the time. It's just a money pit.

Right out of the gate, too much time is required to play them, thus sucking time away from other worthy games. Gaming shouldn't be a 2nd job, like Evercrack is to some people. And if you can't play a game and be competitive and have fun, then the game is flawed. Evercrack is flawed in this way, and evercrack is probably the most successful MMO game to date.

Online FPS's are great. You get some interaction with humans online, but you aren't sucked in for hours, and it isn't a daily commitment.

In fact, if you agree with him so much, why are you all about the MMO games? They are probably the most repetitive thing out there, playing the same game week after week.

A virus can spread a LOT quicker now. And wether or not we might POSSIBLY survive something has nothing to do with the fact that even if we DO survive, millions of people had to die.
